He sized up the pokemon. It was too early to tell but only the Electabuzz didn't immediately set him on edge. "Hello," he said, waving and giving an affable smile. Their reaction would at least give him a clue as to if he was dealing with a bizzare dream or some twisted mind game. And hopefully give him a clue about a way out.
It seemed at least one of the pokemon was interested in talking. And it sounded human! Or, well, he could understand it, anyway. At least that answered if they could communicate. "Hey," Alex replied, waving back. It was weird having to look down so far to talk to someone. He wasn't normally tall by any means, but he'd never had to turn his head so far unless he was looking at a young child. He stopped his current practice, hoping not to come off as intimidating.
But that was about as far as they got before they were interrupted. The houndour and the mawile seemed to know each other somehow. They sure didn't sound like they were from around here, though.
"Pardon me," they say, in a surprisingly non-robotic voice. "I presume you are all offworlders? I noticed your arrival."
Seeing the nearby group, he wandered over, observing them. "I see, I see...yes! I deduce that you have all come here from a faraway place! And as a great detective, I, Vinarch, offer my assistance in returning you home!"
The robotic charizard left just as quickly as it had come, and a servine had replaced it. Alex glared at the houndour. It had a lot of bark for such a small puppy. And it had actually drove off the robotic pokemon. Something about it set him on edge. Not that the mawile seemed much better. The thing's jaws sounded like they had a mind of their own, and the rest of the body's attempts at shutting them up didn't do anything to prove otherwise.
"What's with the hostility?" he said, stepping up to them, warning sparks leaping from his horns. "Set aside your problems for a minute, will ya? It sound like we're gonna need the help of the locals to get home, and we're not gonna get that if you keep pissing them off! So let's just chill, okay?"
"Yes, I'm human. Or I was, I think? And you're saying... this is another world? Are you a human as well?" As mind numbing as it was, it certainly explained everything better than his psychic theory did.
Dream had been Alex's first thought, if for no other reason than lack of experience. It felt the easiest explanation, despite feeling real enough. Another world, though... well, he had a hard time believing the evidence in front of him. "I, uh... well, I was a human before coming here," he said with a shrug. "Guess I'm not the only one. Gotta admit, I'm relieved by that."
He side-eyed the mawile; this wasn't her first time experiencing something like this, she'd said?
The servine had offered to help them get home, like the robotic charizard before him. Alex turned to him. "So you said you could help us go home, huh? And you said people getting brought here randomly is a common event? How about we start with the 'why'? There's gotta be some reason we were dragged here beyond just "get sent home again", right?"
