Our "Weird and Wonderful" one-shot contest is now underway! Pokémon are strange and magical creatures, and for our writing contest this year, we want to see you higlight some of their oddest abilities and features! From stories about luxray thieves using X-ray vision to scope out targets to those about trainers bewitching opponents with their stantlers' mystic antlers, any sort of fic featuring a pokémon's unusual lore is welcome! Entries are due at 11:59 PM July 13th UTC.

Facilities such as stores, hotels, and others build up around them and slowly extend beyond to serve the needs of visiting video game characters and are built out of silicon circuit-board like parts. . As temporary as their use is, they are vital to keeping the D-Pad Dimension thriving.

Whenever a new portal opens to a newly released game, a festival is held welcoming its inhabitants. They are treated to food, drink and fun by their compatriots as a way of welcoming them to the D-Pad Dimension. However, how long that generosity lasts tends to depend on the game's reputation among its fellows... and sometimes in the real world.

The video game characters speak in any language their game is available in, as well as any conlangs that exist in-game. However this can create problems when a game isn't localized in a particular language. Translators are a common service for such cases.

Ther video game characters will often bring animals with them from their worlds, usually for companionship. However some of these video game animals have gone feral and are now then wildlife of the D!Pad Dimension's circuited sectors. Some of this feral wildlife is more dangerous than others and the residents try to keep them in check.

There aren't many good places for plants and such to grow in the D-Pad Dimension, but the video game characters will grow them in pots and such anyway. Programs to introduce more plant life in this way are common, though there are also problems with characters bringing in more hazardous plant life.

It ultimately depends on the video game they're from and the nature of the character. One individual I talked to pretends to be a slasher villain because he was cursed to feed on fear. Another was a rat that feeds on cheese-based power-ups, despite not actually liking cheese much.

The Internet has become highly integrated into the D-Pad Dimension. It can be accessed from terminals built into the D-Pad Dimension's infrastructure (or the characters' own devices if they have them). It is also used to further connect the various video game worlds.

Magic exists in many, but not all, of the video game worlds. The D-Pad Dimension allows use of any magic as the characters' please. However something unknown causes power levels in the D-Pad Dimension between characters to be roughly equalized.

Healing items from the different video game worlds are freely traded in the D-Pad Dimension. Most have beneficial effects on all characters, but some have to be avoided, eg. healing magic on undead characters in JRPGs. Smuggling of fake healing items is also a problem.

Characters usually wear whatever they do in their home games. However the D-Pad Dimension does allow them to get more experimental. As a result trade of clothing and armor from different games is also popular.

While there are rarely true wars in the D-Pad Dimension, a sort of cold war between different consoles exists. Some video game characters from different consoles will form their own factions and attempt to sabotage each other. Other characters find this frivolous and don't get involved, however.

Weapons and armor from the different video game worlds are traded much the same as clothing. Due to the power equalization of the D-Pad Dimension the power of these weapons and armor isn't usually a problem. However care must be taken for these not to be smuggled to the wrong worlds.
