Once again, the Colosseum was alight and abuzz with activity, but this one was a bit of a special fight indeed. This time, both combatants were from different worlds--and yet, only one side was truly fighting alongside Diyem. The other...

"And here I was enjoying a relaxing vacation," Balm said, grinning. "But even I got wrapped up in these fights."

"Oh, don't be like that!" Cepa flitted about. "This was the most excited I've seen you all winter!"

"...That's because it's winter."

"I hope you two are ready." Cynthian said, looking back on Icetales and Brisa with a cheerful grin.

"What am I saying? Of course, you are!" She said, pumping a bouquet in the air.

The roaring crowd, the sunlight shining on them, and the two comrades fighting by his side…

Icetales couldn’t help but feel both excited and anxious about their incoming match. Last time that he participated to a competition, it didn’t quite end too well for him and Cynthian.

Though, that was in the past. The entire team had become stronger, more skilled, and also with plenty more of tricks under their hypothetical sleeves.

The Ninetales gave a quick nod at Cynthian and beamed a bright smirk. “My, yes. I am as ready as I can be.” Then, he turned to Brisa. “Let us show them what we can do!”

Those words of encouragement were enough to make him feel at ease, and he shot a challenging glare at Balm. “Oh? Tired of winter? Well,” he pointed his tails upwards, causing the hailstorm to pelt his body, “here’s some fresh news for thee: things are just going to get frosty here.”

"Keep yer wits about ya," warned Brisa, narrowing her eyes at their opponents, her luxray vision scuoting for weaknesses. "These guys are some of the strongest individual battlers we've come up against..."

It got worse. Or better, if you looked at it right.

"And none of my usual suite of tricks is gonna cut it. Hold fast an' be prepared fer anythin'."

"All right... are we ready, fighters?!" Incineroar called, raising his hands. "It's time to begin... Are we ready?!"

"We're ready!" Cepa said, and they got a similar affirmative from the Dark Warriors. With a nod, Balm entered a battle stance, arms forward and Leaf Blades glowing.

"And... begin!"

Balm suddenly disappeared, reappearing next to the team with his blades already prepped to strike. He was so fast...

Brisa's body lit up with power, but she restrained herself, contained it, saved it for when it would matter. The zeraora form came smoothly this time; controlled and deliberate. No crackling electricity, just a thrum of power.

Brisa Unleashed her Tenacity!

"Cepa will interfere with our moves if we target her!" she barked. "So go fer Balm until the right moment!"

Brisa began to kite their opponents, watching not only for openings, but for Cynthian's and Icetales' form and conduct. They performed well in battle, but they needed coordination. And since her best attacks were all hopeless if her theory about Balm was right...

"Cynthian, pick up the pace! Land a hit on Balm and don't lose yer momentum," she called. "Icetales, y'gotta think fast! No hesitation now, fella; send a Heal Bell our way! Y'all got this! Show me yer best!"

Brisa called out to her allies! Her pure words rallied them! [+4 Speed each!]

As for her, she needed to prepare herself, keep her shit together until it was time. She generated a pair of shimmering silver barriers at her fists, ready to take whatever Balm threw at them.

“Thou got this!” cried out Icetales in response. He growled when Balm disappeared in a flash, and the Ninetales knew already what he was setting up: an ambush.

I shall not let him do that!

A thick Mist cloaked the entire battlefield, shrouding the trio with its protective barrier of white smoke. The soft ringing of bells could be heard from within the clouds, and the phantom of a fox struck Balm in full force, bringing with it a storm of diamon-shaped snowflakes.

Cautious eyes could see the faint silhouette of the Ninetales from the depths of the mist, with his tails spread out around Cynthian. Guarding her.

Icetales summoned the Snow Warning.

Icetales used Void Wraith (+300 Confusion) on Balm. The Hail turned into Diamond Dust.

"Don't worry, Balm! I've got you! Let's... undo some of that damage!" Cepa waved her arms in the air, and suddenly, the Pin Missiles that had embeded themselves into his body were plucked out. He still looked a little dazed from other strikes... but was otherwise healed, like he'd never been pierced at all!

"Try picking on someone your own size!" Cepa shouted at them., holding her arms out.

"...Cepa--"

"You know what I mean!"

Balm rolled his eyes, smiling, but then toyed with a little trinket around his neck. It looked like a tiny, blue gemstone of some kind...

Cepa was leaving herself open. It could be bait, a trick, sure. But you didn't win battles by avoiding every damn chance to land a good hit.

Brisa yowled a battlecry as she ran forward to strike at Cepa with unfamiliar chartreuse energy at her claws as she swung them again and again and again... Nothing in her head but the will to cut down a foe.

Icetales winced when he was struck by the somersault and by the sharp blade, but he took those two attacks with stride. His posture… he was a literal wall of ice and fox.

He smirked at Balm when the latter retreated and got ready for another assault, before readjusting his disheveled fur. “Nice show of swordsmanship, but thou should try harder than that.”

The Ninetales eyed Cepa. So, she was going to pull off the whole meat — leaf? — shield stunt, too?

She must be quite tanky, even though protecting her comrade will leave her open to attacks…

That gave him an idea. His entire body glowed golden, cloaked in an intense Radiant aura. He glanced back at Brisa and Cynthian, a determined expression on his face. “All right, my friends! Let us show them what you two can do!”

The Radiant aura enveloped the two teammates, boosting their offensive prowess. Icetales summoned his Heal Bell for good measure, before standing once more in front of Cynthian. He was going to be her shield to his machine gun.

Cepa got to her feet, nodding. "Okay. Here goes...!"

"I'll lead this time," Balm assured her. "Don't think you're through with us yet!"

"Urgh, I think I pushed myself a bit too hard back there," Cynthian said, body fuming with radiant and shadowy wisps. The edges of her dark blue mask still shimmered with traces of light. She made eye contact with Icetales and took a step back.

"Protect me."

Cynthian held her black flowers to her chest, the spirally arranged red petals glowing faintly while she regained her strength. With her dark red cape swaying and thorned tendrils sprouting around her feet, Cynthian felt safe from any harm that may befall her.

Time shenanigans… Oh, Icetales was starting to be annoyed by those powers already. Though, not as much as getting the effects of that psychic wave that disrupted his healing powers.

Good thing that he braced himself when he felt the restricting magic coil around his spirit, and he prevented the Heal Block from doing its work.

"Let's see you heal after this!" Cepa shouted.

“Oh, I shall do that! Just behold!”

The healing bells chimed above Icetales, Brisa and Cynthian, sending three soothing waves of different nature. Block, fatigue and injuries… they vanished almost completely, with the Diamond Dust finishing the job.

“As thou can see, thou art not the only one who can reset things,” he said, before summoning a combination of mist and auroras. The defensive magic flickered in front of the trio and cloaked them with a defensive aura. Now, it was only a matter of waiting for Balm to emerge from underground…

"Protect me."

Icetales turned to Cynthian and nodded. Right, she took it worst, what with that Future Sight putting a dent on her endurance. He bolted in front of her and looked carefully at his surroundings. If anyone dared to attack his friends, they would have had to go through his barriers and himself first!

"Just a little longer," Balm said. "It's not ready."

Icetales observed his opponents carefully, studying their moves. Cepa had used her time powers again to send an attack into the future, while Balm touched that blue gem once more. The way in which he kept tapping it, almost as if he tried to will whatever power that could manifest from that stone…

Something told him that they would have found out the truth about that stone very soon.

“Cepa is at her last leg. Let us try to take her down quickly,” he suggested, before spreading the healing and protective magic once more. Whatever was to come, they had to be ready.

A tail brushed against Cynthian, and the Ninetales flashed a confident smile.
