"B-but what if someone who i-isn't a killer d-dies?" Gen said, trembling. "I-I...I r-really don't want that to h-happen...""hey now," said sans, leaning down to talk with Gen. "you're gonna be ok. you've got your new buddy, and you've got uncle sans here too," he says, winking. "you won't need to worry unless you've been trying to kill people, right?"
TL:DR, I was OS-BP and granted my buddy the same protection. Both got shot N0, leading me to believe that there might be two killing factions at play here—however, there are other possibilities for the second shot that shouldn't be discounted even if I find the two anti-town killing factions explanation to be most likely.
No this is bad balance, there's not gonna be 4 anti-town in 12 players unless town is really strong. That's a third of the game, standard is a quarter. There's a pretty significant differences there.Well, I'd hazard a guess that there are two pairs of mafia in our group of twelve. That would fit the buddy system build laid out for us by the host! In that case, and assuming they have no other extra information, (which I think is likely, this early!) each scumteam has a one in ten chance of murdering any other person, scum or no, giving a hundred possible combinations of targets, including both teams targeting the same player.
No. It's not. If there is a Serial Killer who has a town buddy, the town buddy is most assuredly not effectively a member of a second scumteam. The town buddy's wincon for their alignment is still to elinimate the Serial Killer, and the Serial Killer's wincon for their alignment is still to eliminate the town buddy. The only way the game can end with both alive is iff they are the only two alive, which isn't super likely, so it's still in the town buddy's best interest more likely than not during early game to focus on alignment-wincon over buddy wincon and to be willing to vote their buddy out if they have reason to believe they're a SK. And the SK buddy probably isn't going to admit that they're an SK to the buddy so it's not like their gonna be strategizing like a scumteam, their gonna be strategizing as one town and one person pretending to be town (so as far as town budy is concerned, two town), just like they are in the thread.[[Nah. One pair of scum, and a second pair of scum. It's a little like having a scumteam and an SK in vanilla. As far as I'm concerned, a third party with a buddy is another scumteam. It's my working assumption for now.]]
A small tinkle rang through the morning air, followed by the sound of a door closing. Steven moved past the market's gaudy signboard advertising their 2-for-1 deals and approached the gathered group. He stopped at Amy's side, taking a careful sip from the to-go coffee cup in his hand. Still hot. "Apologies for my tardiness," he said, cradling the cup with both hands. "It's still early and, well, I had hoped to sneak in one bit of relaxation on this trip, since it seems unlikely it will be restful in the slightest."Amy--a human girl, about thirteen or fourteen years old--stepped outside. Her arms hugged her middle tightly; she looked wide-eyed at all the people who were gathering.
She stopped, let out a beath. "Um, I'm here now, wherever this place is." She let out a nervous giggle. "Arrived last night, but I didn't really see anyone."
She cleared her throat. " I know we were all supposed to be assigned a partner. I was partnered with, um, Steven Stone." She said that name in a quieter tone of voice. "We...talked for a bit about what’s happening. I know this game isn’t really started yet, but so far he seems trustworthy to me. So, the rest of you, do any of your partners, um--who's with who, I guess I want to ask?"
Looking around, she saw at least one familiar face.
"Hello, Mr. Stone," she said, waving cautiously to Steven.
following most of this but unsure why they would be motivated to slow the game down/hunt for other-scum explicitly over just firing away as usual. does it not benefit both sides of scum to kill as much of the game as possible as quickly as possible? i feel like scum is more likely to be sussed out by town in a long game than shot by other-scum in a short game.[[Sortof annoyed that it doesn't seem like folks are getting the idea of 'two scumteams'. They wouldn't be allied to each other. It's an elegant possibility, albeit by no means certain. Anyway, if my hypothesis is right, and leaving aside how scum could end up in buddy systems when their scumbuddies die, then scum are incentivised to murder the enemy scumteam, slowing the game down. More like five nights, which sounds about right.]]
[[It's role madness. So, yes.]]unless town is really strong.
[[My role PM said I could win if my buddy system survived to the end, even if a scum player got assigned to us. At this point, Gen was having a full-blown panic attack, curled up and crying on the ground.
You get some soft skeleton pats. "hey. i can't make promises i can't keep. but everyone around you... i know they're gonna do their best to find out who's a killer and who isn't. until then... all you can do, is try to make the most of it. enjoy your time here while you can."At this point, Gen was having a full-blown panic attack, curled up and crying on the ground.
That's why I said *for their alignment*. In early game, with a wincon such as SK where no other faction can achieve alignment victory with you alive, it's better to focus on alignment victory than buddy victory, because there's a really good chance your buddy's gonna be dead by the time you win. And admitting to your buddy you're a SK seems a huge risk because I feel like most people are probably gonna inclined to focus on alignment victory over buddy victory, at least in early game.My role PM said I could win if my buddy system survived to the end, even if a scum player got assigned to us. Steven regarded Amy with thinly veiled surprise. "You drink coffee?" He wasn't sure when exactly he started drinking the stuff himself, but he was certain it wasn't that young. But, who was he to judge. As the conversation started, the...skeleton..just continued flipping patties. Amy wasn't hungry, but seeing Steven with coffee, she asked, "Did you get that from a store?" She smiled. "Coffee calms me down too, though my parents say I shouldn't drink so much."
Steven felt a pang of worry as the small oshawott sniffled and rocked back and forth. He raised his voice a little, as he added, "And I think they had quite an impressive candy display in there as well." A little softer, he continued, "If you'd like to get some candy, I'm happy to buy."At this point, Gen was having a full-blown panic attack, curled up and crying on the ground.
