24. What are the routes/mystery dungeons in your world like?
Adding onto this image with more lore below.
The Mystery Dungeon is a surreal anomaly that has plagued the world seemingly forever. The sole information about them that hasn't been lost to time only tells about how they form. Why? Where? When? No one knows, not yet at least.
When the ley lines below the ground cross through each other and complete their 'form', a shadow appears on the surface, engulfing and devouring all land in its path, creating a wall of impervious darkness. An event in the past told of a village called Areos that was consumed by a forming Mystery Dungeon. All buildings, land, and Pokemon were voided into nothingness.
When Pokemon enter this shadow, they are transported to some alternate reality. The Mystery Dungeon attempts to imitate the land it swallowed, creating faux trees, rocks, even houses. These places are turned into maze-like rooms with corridors, traps, items, fake and aggressive Pokemon who attack outsiders, alongside other bizarre things created by the dungeon.
The ley lines are alive and active, slowly inching their way through the earth and creating more Mystery Dungeons in their path. It is an imminent and future threat the average Pokémon is not aware of. They won't stop until everything and everyone has been merged into a Mystery Dungeon.
Each time a Pokémon travels up and down the 'stairs' to another room, the ley lines in the real world twist and alter their form in response, creating another maze and ever changing structure to the new room.
The use of Entercards, which gives the user the ability to manipulate the ley lines and allow a Pokemon to ride a 'current' of ley lines to another dungeon, or another area, serving as instantaneous travel. It also adds another possibility that the origin of the ley lines can be found by riding a current straight to it.
Traps are sprung when just walking on the terrain of a dungeon. The ground shifts to a metal grate, which then releases its effect. The traps can range from harmless Chestnut Traps, which spray chestnuts on the Pokemon from above-to a Selfdestruct Trap, which can explode and kill a Pokemon not fast enough to react and get away.
I also have a ton of other lore images for other things since I do these almost every chapter.
