"Was Lugia's domain one of the places Arceus couldn't see because of the distortion before now?" Cynthian asked Maple.
"How long will it even take us to search all the places he can't see? I know Lugia is like..." Cynthian stretched his flowers out, "Reeeaal huge, but it's not like we can spot her all the way out here. She could be anywhere now for all we know, right?"

Potluck’s gift... He had complete fluidity of typing? Celeste had known they’d all had gifts derived from Arceus, but this was different. This seemed to him like Potluck had Arceus’ blessing, on the same way he had Ho-Oh’s. That Potluck could have a gift of Arceus’ personal power was... awe inspiring. It was something that just didn’t happen outside of fiction... Then again, everything else in his life seemed to be like a novel now, so why not this, too.
Funny, of all the people to be on top of their group, he’d have expected it to be Maple or Truffle, but it seemed that wasn’t the case.
Though if they had met Arceus, that was already a departure from the Allmother he knew from his world. After all, the higher beings here seemed to exist under very different rules than the ones of his world. An adolescent Ho-Oh and Lugia, referring to themselves with mortal gender, having parents of the same species.
He felt like he should have something to contribute, but he couldn’t understand what moves were being made if he didn’t understand the rules they were playing by in the first place. Best just to listen for now.

Maple nodded, "Yes. I have quite a few moves, and acquired several more from the Legends of the Mystery Continent. Sketch can give me quite a lot, after all."
"My master looks a little different from me," Meringue said. "I'm starting to lose my flight feathers as my elemental flight gets stronger, so then I'm more seaworthy, but she doesn't have a whole lot of feathers at all. Maple frowned, humming in thought. "Well," she said to Cynthian, "while that's true, and I can make portals so individuals can travel to different locations quickly... I am hesitant to split your group up too much. You are not very strong on your own. If you are picked off one by one..."
Meringue looked toward Cabot, who seemed to have a particularly disproportionate attention toward him. It was a little weird. Still, his assurances were nice... even if he had no idea how they'd be able to stop a force that could make a Legend disappear. "Are you really that confident you can save her, just like that? You guys are talking like finding her is the hard part... not fighting whatever did it."

"You're still tired," Maple said. "Don't worry about any of this for now and trust that we will be working for you. Rest."
"Okay, okay." Meringue waved a wing dismissively, then settled down. "Just be careful. Master's no slouch."
"That may be what saves us," Maple stated, then motioned toward the others. "Come. It's time we leave Meringue so he can rest. I'm going to spend the next few days researching more about the Shades and possibly find a way to detect corruption."

Bahamut glanced at Cabot. Such childlike optimism when the two battles fought thus far had been far from a walk in the park. The kind of optimism that set up lofty expectations and bred false hope that could give way to crushing despair if the team's efforts were unsuccessful. He was ready to jump in to temper things when Maple spoke first. Well, it wasn't exactly what he would've said, but it seemed a reasonable means of sidestepping the matter.
"Days?" He cocked his head. "You intend to wait that long to mount an investigation? In that time, more parasites could spread. If Lugia and Ho-Oh are infected, then it would be tough for Arceus or any of your team to sense any of their whereabouts." He curled his upper wings. "Why not start with a cursory investigation to find areas that you cannot properly sense?"

"Feel free, but be careful," Maple said, glancing toward Bahamut. "An unknown foe is the most dangerous sort. One wrong move could lose even more of our numbers. We can investigate as many places as we can, but we will only have to retread ground when we have better resources. Still..." Maple frowned, pacing toward the exit.
"Perhaps I can have Soda or Truffle find a way to detect more of them in the meantime, just from brute-force checking suspect locations. Soda is efficient that way. Give him a task and he will find the laziest way to complete it before the deadline. And Truffle... He'll do things methodically so nothing we would be able to detect would be missed. Between the two of them... I have confidence that they'll find something.
"But all that aside, let's leave Meringue to rest for now. If anybody wants to visit him, try it in a few days when he's better. It looks like healing from these Shade-related attacks... take longer than normal injuries."

Cabot began to walk towards the exit, only to pause at the doorway and look back at the Lugia. For a moment it looked like he was about to say something, but in the end he remained quiet and soon turned back around before continuing on and leaving the infirmary himself.

As they all shuffled out, Maple made it a point that she'd be the last one to leave, and then followed them out.
"Um..." But Meringue still had something to say.

"Who are you, exactly? I don't really... remember you as part of Arceus', you know, anything. Then one day I'm hearing about you as one of the assistants... Master seemed to know."

Dave only made a quick visit to the Hidden Quarters to leave Squiggly there ("I'll be back later and then we can get you out of the damn jar, all right?") before heading back out. He had something more pressing to attend to.
He shoved open the door of Wigglytuff's Guild as decisively as he could (not very, as a tiny dog with paws, frustratingly enough). "Hey, Maple?" he barked, looking around. "Care to tell me just why the fuck I've got bullshit radiance powers now even though I didn't touch your ball of cult light?"

"How do you mean?" Maple asked, standing right behind him. In her hand was a book that she had been in the middle of reading, and she had probably been elsewhere in the guild before Dave had called for her. "You manifested your powers despite not touching it?"
Dave jumped as Maple appeared out of nowhere, his fur standing on end, and irritably tried to get it to smooth itself back. "Don't play dumb. I didn't fucking agree to this. You did something to me even though I said no. And you said, what, overuse can harm yourselves? That's the vaguest terms and conditions shit I've ever heard. The fuck does that mean? What the fuck are you hiding?"
