It smelled ever so faintly of smoke.
Ooo I think this is a neat detail about Rotom
I shook my head disconcertedly.

{Why does everybody think I'm going to go after them?}
Poor Echo :sadbees:. Everyone thinks she's a murderhobo
{...Did you just understand me?}

"You get what she's saying?"

"Why wouldn't I? I can understand all of the other Pokémon you bring to the lab!"
:quag:
I'd say you're...sort of like a wilted Sceptile, almost.
lol thats a funny description. I'm also surprised nobody has likened her to a skinny Rampardos or smth hah
I was sent here recently to power the PokéDex. They told me that I would like it better travelling with a Trainer instead of being stuck in the research lab all day."
Its a neat detail that they share being raised in a lab enviroment
I ducked behind Lillie, not wanting to be a cause for alarm.
not sure you can fit behind an adolescent girl buddy :mewlulz:. The mental image is pretty funny
i thought the rotomdex was the most adorable little bugger on the face of the planet
Thats funny because I vascillate between neutrality and it annoying me. In the games/anime, that is.

In this fic I love rotomdex, you've made me a fan
{As long as we're sheltered, we have nothing to worry.}
so I'm guessing based on the following line maybe this is a turn of phrase?

I thought it might be a typo since I'd expect 'nothing to worry about' but maybe not. I'll wait and see hah
Were any of them even still alive after what happened?
:unquag: ah .... oh dear....
{What is it, Beta? What does it want?} I pleaded for the answer.

{It doesn't want anything. It's just thunder.}
I think its pretty neat detail for Blue to have had this elevated intelligence, where she understands these concepts better than her siblings.
{It wants us to stay inside so we don't get caught in the storm. The lightning knows how dangerous it can be, so it warns us to go inside...It knows it can't come inside.}
This is a nice flavorful description for her to explain it as
Beta placed a tender hand on the back of my neck
I did rather expect to see 'claw' instead of hand here
He covered his face again and emitted what sounded like a sniffle.

"I'm just a coward."
awww nooooo poor Rotom
Charlie and Delta were the mean ones.}
Gamma was Charlie, and Beta was Blue. But, then, what did the humans call me and Delta?
Endlessly amused by the idea that they called Delta Delta and so did the humans, perhaps by sheer coincidence.
:sadwott: poor Echo... she's a foundling in a way. Blue technically lives but as long as Echo is here she's a last of her kind, and the last of the elevated raptors really....
...And I believed I would be even luckier still if I ever saw any of my old packmates ever again.
ouch. Now I really want to imagine that her siblings were secretly isekai'd too and are just like... in the wilderness somewhere and in the pokemon world. Even if they are meanies. I want them to have a chance to change....
{Hey, wait! Come back! I want to make peace! JOIN US!}

Rufflet simply glared down at me from above before disappearing. He didn't want to join us, even though we'd just beat him fair and square?

I figured that if he didn't want to join our pack, then he wasn't as worthy as I'd first made him out to be, so I continued; maybe I would find something better if I kept searching.
As fun as having another avian around would be, I also have to enjoy that not every catch will be successful and not every pokemon will join a trainer just because they lost.
{Your name,} I announced to my new packmate. {Is Red.}
:quag: Love the name, I really like that its an homage of sorts to Blue too.

Man its so much to reread all this and appreciate it all over again. Seeing Echo start her journey and learn about the world and receive Rotomdex, and then showing that Rotom can also understand her its great. Alola is a stunningly good setpiece for Echo really, especially with the conservation and living in peace with nature energy, and especially Rotomdex.

Echo gets to be properly registered as a trainer, have her first NPC trainer battle, and even make her first catch! Everything with her is just so exciting, and I love how we get all these little reflections of her history growing up to play into who she is. Also red is delightful and really fun, I enjoy the pokemon's antics in this story a lot.

I thought the scene with her and Rotom in the storm is genuinely the absolute sweetest. Poor Rotom worried about being a coward for being electric type, and then Echo deciding to take after Blue and comfort him. Already I love their bond so much, and I think this scene does so much to showcase them and their respective characterizations. Echo having a chance to react to a moment of "weakness" to one in her pack and choosing kindness instead of pouncing shows that she's really different here.
