Brisa knew that there were folks on the team with painful secrets. She'd had no trouble being accepted by most despite her personal demons, not that she'd shared them in full with too many people herself, but as far as she knew, Starr hadn't told anyone else about those dark things she'd confided in Brisa. Did Nip have some crime weighing on his heart? Did he need assurance that Brisa wouldn't turn on him?
Well, she'd give him that. He'd more than earned it.
"Whatever's in yer past, I ain't judgin'. You'd be surprised what I've forgiven since arrivin' on Cibus."
She'd been forgiven for mistakes of her own, too. It seemed like, with some exceptions, the whole team had been prepared for a while now to put their faith in each other. More than she could ever have hoped for. More than anyone did in her own world.
"I'm . . . no stranger t'bein' lonesome, either. Before all this, I spent just about six years without any friends. It was hard, y'know? Just, really–" At this, her eyes prickled. Best not to keep talknig about that. "...Mm. Anyway. Every now an' again I look at someone... I look at Owen, fer example, an' I think... Holy shit. There's a fella I trust with my life, an' who can trust me with his. An' he ain't even the only one."
She laughed awkwardly, and scratched her neck.
"I dunno where I'm goin' with this. I guess I'm just sayin' things're sure different here than they are in all our homeworlds."
More forgiving. More hopeful.
