Cynthian raised his flower to retort, but the words failed to come through. At least for the first couple seconds.

"Honestly, I shielded Nip back then because if the strongest mons on our team went down, the rest will fall like a house of leaves. I wasn't really considering what would happen to me at the time. It was too chaotic to think properly, and I'm not sure I'd have willingly thrown myself in harm's way if I was thinking clearly back then." Cynthian wanted to add that a small part of him hoped he'd been knocked out for good so he'd wake back up in his world away from all the madness in Cibus, but he didn't have it in him to say something that cowardly.

"But if heroism is a good or bad thing, that's for you to decide."

"I think being a hero is good, but that's secondary to everything I came to this world for. I just want to stop being..." He recalled Starr's words. "Spineless, I guess. Not a hero, but not a coward either. Does that make sense?"

“You came to change for the better,” Seyka said. “And you’ve already started doing that, at least I think so.”
The Skarmory paused. “I think in that fact alone you’re a lot better than... some Pokémon here. But I don’t think you have to go about it like your life is on the line.”

"I guess. Sorry, I'm just a bit disheartened after the last battle. I appreciate your kind words though," Cynthian said with a relieved smile.

"How have you been holding up in all this? Was your wall smashing some sort of training regimen?"

“Well actually, I was thinking of sanding off my head. Not like, my whole head but the top,” Seyka said, tapping his horn on the ground. “I didn’t notice the wall. As for this whole... thing, it’s just what it is, you know?”
The Skarmory smiled. “It’s exciting though; wondering about what could happen next. I haven’t had this much fun back home in a long time!”

"I must say, I've had my fair share of excitement since I got here, so I see what you mean." Cynthian stared at his reflection on Seyka's shiny feathers.

"Were you trying to make your head shinier or something? I don't really know much about flying types, and even less so about steel types. Is your head a detachable helmet or... Sorry, I'm getting a bit invasive here, aren't I?" Cynthian would've pinched the bridge of his nose right then, if he had fingers... Or a nose.

“My head is my head as far as I know,” Seyka said thoughtfully. “But if you want, you can try and crack it open. Maybe you’ll find something nice inside.”
“I can’t tell you much about steel though.
That’s just how I am, and I can’t change that anytime soon. I guess kind of like how you’re a flower, maybe.”

“My head is my head as far as I know,” Seyka said thoughtfully. “But if you want, you can try and crack it open. Maybe you’ll find something nice inside.”

"What? That's a really scary thing to suggest! Would you even be okay if someone cracked your head open? You'd for sure end up dead... but you probably have a good brain in there," Cynthian said with a snicker.

“I can’t tell you much about steel though.
That’s just how I am, and I can’t change that anytime soon. I guess kind of like how you’re a flower, maybe.”

Cynthian ruffled his flowers and hummed. Both his flowers were as large as his entire head, and he'd never thought much of that before. "Yeah, you're right. For me, losing my flowers would be like you losing all your flight feathers. Speaking of flight, how good of a flyer are you anyway? I wish I could fly like you, but flying type fares were pretty costly in my world. I always had to settle for mudsdale carriages or boats when traveling by sea."

 

[RJR Basimilus]

"Haha, I don't know anymore," Seyka exclaimed. "Back home, my wings were worthless, full of holes and bent out of shape. But now-" Seyka examined his wings carefully. "They're like new, and I haven't had time to try actually. I'll probably fall out of the air, but give me some time and then I'll carry you."

"How long has it been anyway since I last flew," the Skarmory said quietly. An inscrutable expression crossed his face. "Oh. Not long enough I suppose."

"Haha, I don't know anymore," Seyka exclaimed. "Back home, my wings were worthless, full of holes and bent out of shape.

"Whoa, I'm so sorry to hear. What happened to your wings there?" Cynthian asked with a gasp.

"For a flying type to lose their wings would be like me losing my flowers, and I can't live without these two." Cynthian raised his flowers, pollen swishing out as he shook them.

"They're like new, and I haven't had time to try actually. I'll probably fall out of the air, but give me some time and then I'll carry you."

"Oh, you don't have to carry me along. I wouldn't turn you down if you insist though," Cynthian said nervously.

 

[RJR Basimilus]

"Oh these?" Seyka stretched his wings out. "They just kind of fell apart. It's not an interesting story."

"Wouldn't your flowers grow back if you lost them?" Seyka asked. "Like plants do? I mean, my wings could grow back if I wanted, but uh, I don't really want that. But this doesn't really count you know?"

The Skarmory looked away. "Wings or not, it doesn't change much."

Cynthian wasn't entirely convinced, but he decided to leave it at that. His was starting to nod off while he sat, and sleep weighed heavily on his eyes.

"Well, I wish you luck, Seyka. That was a good talk, but I think I'll be heading back to my flower vase now. Let's talk again when you get used to your wings again, okay?" Cynthian wobbled a bit while standing up, then he smiled.

"Mmmmm, I'm sure I'll be around one way or another." Seyka nodded at Cynthian. "Don't get killed or anything. At least not before I do."

Bahamut floated into the living quarters and located beds to place Astrid and Curio. He also dropped Icepix. Unfortunately, Owen wasn't around to handle coffee-brewing duty. Pity.

With the job done, he slithered into the corner of the room and coiled around himself.

Somewhere in her slumber, she felt a light shift. Astrid reached out through the haze and wrapped around the all-encompassing force—soft, welcoming, divine.

Though she was drunk, and passed out, and softly laughing at something in her sleep, she at least had the mind to wrap Necrozma’s wing in a death hug the whole way back. And when she was placed down, it took every waking brain cell she had available to pull her pillow towards her to replace that feeling.

With a subtle, satisfied grunt, she started to drift off for real. Maybe she’d head to the bluff sometime in the next couple of days…

So, Icetales learned a new fascinating thing about himself… he hated flying.

One moment he was safely anchored to the floor, and the next moment a giant beak caught him by his tails and took him to the skies, at hundred of meters from the ground and with his paws flailing.

Well… he couldn’t deny that it was quite the adrenaline surge!

His tiny claws scrapped the floor underneath his body and his forepaws were outstretched, as if he was trying to hug the entire planet.

“Earth! Oh so lovely earth!” he exclaimed in relief, his tails wagging.

However, his brain was quick to remind him that he was lying on the dirt, and with a horrified gasp, he stood back up and hastily dusted off his fur with his paws.

Once reassured that his fur was in a passable condition, he took a quick glance around the place: berries and water stored in some shelves, beds and clothing of all sizes, Astrid and Curio dozing off, and then… the curled-up dragon. Ah, the tails-snatcher!

He frowned and huffed an icy cloud, unamused. “Goodness gracious, sir! Next time that thee want to attempt a stunt of such scale, I’d much prefer to be forewarned!”

“Spontaneity is the fountain of youth, darling.” Bahamut remained coiled as he spoke.

Icetales cocked an eyebrow… or at least, he would, if he had one. That shining fellow always had a witty comeback ready, huh?

“Hmph! If that were indeed true…” started Icetales, before beaming a playful smirk, “then wouldn’t all worlds be swarming with kits and cubs, good sir?”

“Did you not say you had several siblings?” Bahamut yawned. “In any case, the deed is done. You’re free to explore to your heart’s content.”

Icetales shrugged. “…Heh, touché, I guess.”

He took a swift look at the two sleeping Pokémon: Astrid was hugging her pillow, lost in the depths of her dreamscape, while Curio had a… neutral expression? Or angry? Maybe sad? He couldn’t really tell with those dark markings on her face. He nodded to himself. They surely were going to be alright.

“Very well. Then I shall get going and explore this new environment.” He looked at Bahamut and bowed. “It has been a pleasure to converse with thee, sir. May we see each other in the near future. And… rest well.”

Without further ado, Icetales strode out of the room. It was time for him to learn about that new place.

Curio woke up with a headache. Of course, she got royally plastered yesterday. The only solution? Hair of the dog, or Lucario, as it were. Besides, she needed to do more than just wallow in bed, still feeling the effects of what happened a couple of days ago and feeling even worse for sitting around during a hangover.

Curio sluggishly got out of bed and crawled back to the Spinda Cafe.
