This is a fic I've been talking about on discord for a while now. While I have lost interest in continuing it, I will still be publishing the existing content. I hope it won't be too disappointing for you to know this will most likely never be finished.

Content warnings: This story includes some dark themes such as manipulation, betrayal and human ghosts. If there is any more content warnings that should be added, let me know.

Chapter 1 - All journeys have to start somewhere

Sequo woke up and walked downstairs. As he was walking down the stairs, he wondered if his mother would remember the promise she had made to him. Would this be the day he’d receive his starter pokemon? And what would it be like?

“Good morning, Sequo.”

He could hear his mother saying this. He was excited, yet nervous. Would she even remember? After all, it had been a while since she’d made that promise to him.

“Do you know what day it is?”

His mother asked. Now he knew she remembered. However, he decided to act unaware just to see her reaction.

“Um… Tuesday?”

“Yes, but that’s not what I meant. Today is the day I promised you’d receive your starter pokemon.”

He heard what she said and he started to get really excited. What would his starter pokemon be? Would it be useful in battle?

“Let’s go outside, I’ll show it to you there.”

He followed her outside to the yard. Celestic Town was a beautiful place, it was known to be the town that preserves the Sinnoh region’s history. It made sense why his mother would live here, after all, she was known as the researcher of myths.

“Come on out, Gible!”

She said, sending out a small blue shark-like pokemon from her pokeball. This was a pokemon he knew very well, as it was just like the pokemon his mother had used, even evolving it into a powerful Garchomp. And this pokemon was his now.

“I’ll call you Fin!”

He said. It was pretty clear that the two would end up forming a great bond. Now, it was time for him to prove himself and follow in his mother's footsteps. It was time for him to start the journey to become the champion, just like his mother, Cynthia, the champion of the Sinnoh region.

Maybe he could even become as strong as, or maybe even stronger than his older sister, Duca, who was known as one of the strongest trainers from the Unova region.

Chapter 2 - The first battle

A few days after obtaining his starter, Sequo was traveling through the rocky route known as Route 211. The route was located west of Celestic Town, and it would lead to Eterna City, the place where Gardenia’s gym was located.

His bag was packed with useful items such as pokeballs, potions and other things that he would most likely need throughout his journey.

Suddenly, another pokemon appeared behind a nearby rock. He looked at the pokedex he had also received from his mother. It showed the pokemon was a rock/ground type named Geodude, a fairly common pokemon in the Sinnoh Region’s rocky areas.

This would be his first pokemon battle. While he had seen pokemon battles on TV, the experience was always different to actually lead a pokemon into one.

“Go, Fin! Use bite!”

He commanded with a confident voice, sending out his first partner pokemon.

As the Gible bit its teeth into Geodude’s body, the attack dealt a bit of damage, but not enough to win him the battle yet. Meanwhile, the Geodude used rollout to begin rolling at the Gible. As the move’s power would increase the longer the battle took, he had to think of a plan quickly enough.

However, Sequo was not completely out of options.

“Fin, use dig!”

The Gible burrowed under the ground, leaving the Geodude wondering where it had gone.

“Use twister!”

As the Gible resurfaced out of the ground, swiftly creating a vortex of draconic energy to eventually knock out the Geodude. The Geodude fainted on the ground, defeated.

“Good job.”

He could hear a voice talking to him. He looked around, but there was no one but him to see in the area.

“Who said that?”

He asked, but there was no response. Maybe he had just imagined it, and it probably wouldn’t end up being a big deal anyway.

Chapter 3 - First step of the ladder

It had been about a week after the start of Sequo’s journey through Sinnoh. He had now arrived in Eterna City, the place where his first gym battle would take place. This was the first of the eight gyms, first step of the ladder on his journey to become the champion.

As he walked through the doors of the gym, he could see a large florally decorated interior with a sign next to the doors he’d walked through.

“Find me in the field of flowers and we can have a gym battle.”

The sign read. He noticed that the flower field began from right behind the gym. He quickly began searching, but found only other trainers. He had to battle them in order to receive hints of the gym leader Gardenia’s location.

In the middle of the floral field, he could see one more trainer. This was a different trainer from the other ones he’d fought. This was the gym leader, Gardenia.

“You have found me. Impressive. Now, let’s battle!”

Gardenia stated, bringing out her pokeballs. However, before the battle started, there was one more question she asked from Sequo.

“How many gym badges do you have?”

“I don’t have any yet. This is my first gym battle.”

He responded, hoping the gym leader would go easy on him. Despite being the son of the champion, he still had a long way to go before he could become a powerful trainer. He got what he’d hoped for was answered, as Gardenia replied:

“Fine then, I’ll go easy on you. Go, Rose!”

She sent out a small floral pokemon with flower-like hands. He used his pokedex and found out the pokemon was known as Roselia, a grass type pokemon.

“Go, Fin! Use twister!”

The Gible created a swift and powerful vortex of draconic energy to damage the Roselia, but the battle was not over, it was nowhere close to over.

“Rose, use leech seed!”

The Roselia’s move didn’t appear to do anything at first, simply sending small seeds at the Gible. However, the seeds began to slowly sap away at Fin’s strength. This was an intelligent strategy, but it would only work if the Roselia would last long enough in the battle.

“Fin, use dig!”

Sequo remembered how well the strategy had worked against the geodude earlier, therefore, he used the strategy again. The Gible burrowed underground, leaving the Roselia wondering where it was. It tried to use poison powder at the ground, but the attack missed.

“Use dragon claw!”

As the Gible resurfaced behind the Roselia on the ground, it enhanced its claws with draconic energy to knock out the Roselia and win him the battle.

“Impressive, you’ve won the gym badge of Eterna City!”

Gardenia said, impressed by Sequo’s battling skills. Sequo was proud of himself. This was the first step for him to follow his mother’s footsteps and become the champion.

Chapter 4 - A mysterious voice

Soon after defeating Gardenia and receiving his gym badge, Sequo looked at his phone. Someone was calling. And that someone was his mother, Cynthia.

“Hello, how’s your journey going? I heard from Gardenia you got your first gym badge, is that correct?”

Cynthia asked him.

“Yes, it’s going well. What Gardenia said is true, I did get my first gym badge just now.”

“That’s nice, may your journey also continue well.”

However, there was something he didn’t want to tell. It was about the mysterious voice he had heard. It was as if something was telling him to keep that part hidden.

After the call was over, he was preparing to take one more look at Eterna City before continuing his travels again.

The city was a fairly large one, at least larger than the little Celestic Town he lived in. There was a pokecenter and a shop like in most cities, and a gym like some other cities had as well. There was also a weird-looking building that was apparently formerly owned by Team Galactic.

But the most defining feature of the city was definitely the statue of a legendary pokemon at the center of the city. Some said it represented the pokemon of time, while some said it was meant to represent the pokemon of space.

“Ah, the statue. That statue is more of an attempt to combine various beliefs than a true replica of a legendary pokemon.”

A mysterious voice said. The voice was the same as the one he heard after defeating his first pokemon. It was a calm voice, almost resembling that of Cynthia.

“I can tell you’re wondering who I am. I go by many names, you may just call me a guide, as I will guide you towards the right path on your journey.”

He was unsure what to say. A guide? What was this mysterious voice? Was it to be trusted? And what did the voice even mean by guiding towards the right path? However, the voice didn’t sound evil or malicious, so maybe it was to be trusted. Sequo decided to trust it for now.

Chapter 5 - Catching a pokemon

A few days after leaving Eterna City, Sequo was walking through a forest known as Eterna Forest. There was something he was planning to do, and that something was to catch a pokemon. After all, he needed a team of more than one pokemon. Gible couldn’t win all the battles alone.

A small leafy pokemon jumped out of the tall grass. He used his pokedex to find out the pokemon was Budew, a grass/poison type and an earlier evolution to Roselia, the pokemon Gardenia had used in the gym battle.

He threw a poke ball at the Budew, capturing the pokemon inside the poke ball. The poke ball shook once, then twice, but not a third time. The Budew broke out from the poke ball and escaped into the woods.

“You should first weaken the pokemon by using attacks before attempting to catch it.”

Someone said. However, it was not the mysterious voice he had heard before. When he looked around, he saw a girl with green hair and wearing a light green dress.

“Who are you?”

“My name is Cheryl, I’m a pokemon trainer. I’d say I know a thing or two about catching pokemon.”

Sequo knew that a pokemon should always be weakened before catching, but he had forgotten that in his excitement. After hearing the advice from Cheryl, Sequo started to follow it. He soon found another Budew nearby, deciding to battle it and weaken it first before catching it.

“Go, Fin! Use dig!”

As the Gible burrowed underground, the Budew was left confused as to where it was. The Budew attempted to use a move but the move missed.

“Fin, use twister!”

As the Gible resurfaced behind the Budew, it created a swift and powerful vortex of draconic energy, weakening the Budew enough to be caught.

Sequo threw another poke ball at the Budew. Once the pokemon was inside, the pokeball shook once, then twice, then a third time. He had caught the Budew.

“I’ll call you Flora!”

Chapter 6 - Another Gym Battle

About a week after catching the Budew, Sequo had arrived at Oreburgh City, the place where he’d try to obtain his second gym badge. The gym was a steel type one, and while the grass type Budew wouldn’t be of much use, he still wanted to use it to see how it performs in battle and to form a closer bond with it.

As he walked through the doors of the gym building, he saw an interior decorated with various metallic machinery. There was one path with a couple trainers in the way, and another longer path on the other side of the gym that avoided those trainers.

To him, it was pretty clear as to what path to go through. He chose the longer path with less obstacles, and as he was walking through it he was thinking about strategies for the gym battle.

He could use poison powder, or he could use mega drain and leech seed. In the end, he came to the conclusion of using leech seed and mega drain, as poison type moves weren’t effective against steel type pokemon.

At the end of the path, he saw one trainer. But he wasn’t just an ordinary trainer. He was Riley, the steel type gym leader of Oreburgh City after the former leader Roark had moved his gym to Canalave City.

“Hello there. Are you here to challenge the Oreburgh City Gym?”

“Yes, I am.”

“Then let’s start! Go, Copper!”

Riley sent out a metallic pokemon. Sequo used his pokedex to find out the pokemon was a steel/rock type known as Aron.

“Go, Flora!”

Sequo commanded confidently, sending out the Budew he had caught in Eterna Forest.

“Flora, use absorb!”

The Budew used a move known as absorb to drain away at the Aron’s energy, doing only a little bit of damage. At least it was better than nothing.

“Copper, use stealth rock!”

The move scattered pointed stones on the ground. While they didn’t directly hit the Budew, Sequo knew that they could still damage a pokemon that would switch in. That is why he decided not to switch to another pokemon.

“Flora, use leech seed!”

Leech seed was a move he had seen in the fight against Gardenia, it was a move that created seeds that sapped away at the Aron’s strength.

“Copper, use rock throw!”

The Aron bashed its head against the Budew, dealing a lot of damage. However, the Budew was still capable of continuing the battle.

“Flora, use mega drain!”

Budew’s attack hit the Aron, draining away at its strength and knocking it out finally, even without the favorable type matchup.

“Go, Iron!”

Riley sent out a machine-like pokemon. Sequo checked his pokedex to find out the pokemon was called Metang.

“Iron, use bullet punch!”

The Metang’s attack struck the Budew with a quick punch, almost like a bullet. The attack managed to knock out the Budew, but Sequo was not going to give up yet.

“Go, Fin! Use dig!”

The Gible burrowed underground, leaving the Metang wondering where it had gone. This strategy was one Sequo had used many times, but it worked so there wasn’t really a reason not to use it.

“Fin, use earth power!”

As the resurfaced Gible burst out of the ground with a powerful attack, its attack hit the Metang and it dealt enough damage to defeat it and win him the battle. He had done it, he had managed to receive the Oreburgh City gym badge. He was now one step closer towards becoming the champion.

Chapter 7 - Not every battle can be won

It had been a few weeks since the battle with Riley at Oreburgh City. Sequo had informed his mother of how he obtained a second gym badge and he had also reached Hearthome city, the place where he’d have his third gym battle.

He entered through the doors of the gym, witnessing a dark and spooky interior. There was a sign next to the door he had entered through. It read:

“Navigate the darkness with a flashlight!”

He saw the flashlight next to the sign, picking it up and turning it on. He started navigating through the dark interior, the flashlight was helping him see where he was going.

He had to battle a couple of gym trainers on the way, and at the end of the room, the flashlight revealed a small statue of a Misdreavus and a person standing behind it. This was Fantina, the ghost type gym leader of Hearthome City.

“So you found me.. Impressive. Now, let us have a pokemon battle!”

“Sure thing! Go, Flora!”

“Go, Shade!”

Fantina sent out a ghostly pokemon with a mask resembling a skull. Sequo looked at his pokedex, seeing the pokemon was a ghost type known as Duskull.

“Flora, use poison powder!”

The Budew scattered poisonous powder at the Duskull, which was poisoned by it.

“Shade, use shadow sneak!”

The Duskull extended its shadow, quickly striking the Budew. However, the Budew wasn’t knocked out just yet.

“Flora, use magical leaf!”

The Budew sent a bunch of leaves imbued with whimsical energy at the Duskull, damaging it but not managing to fully knock it out.

“Shade, use hex!”

The Duskull attacked the Budew with a relentless flurry of ghostly energy, almost knocking it out.

“Shade, use shadow sneak!”

The Duskull immediately followed up by extending its shadow in order to swiftly attack the Budew from behind, finally knocking it out.

“Go, Fin! Use Dragon Claw!”

Sequo sent out his Gible. As the Gible enhanced its claws with draconic energy, the vicious claw attack was enough to knock out the Duskull.

“Go, Soul!”

Fantina sent out a purple ghostly pokemon that looked like it was wearing a large hat. Sequo looked at his pokedex, finding out the pokemon was one called Mismagius.

“Fin, use dig!”

Sequo relied on his well-proven strategy and the Gible burrowed underground, leaving the Mismagius not knowing where it had gone. However, Fantina had an ace in her sleeve.

“Fin, use earth power!”

As the Gible resurfaced, it made the ground below the Mismagius shake violently. However, since the Mismagius was levitating with its ghostly powers, it was not affected at all by the attack.

“Soul, use shadow ball!”

The Mismagius created a sphere of shadowy energy, hurling it towards the Gible and knocking it out. Sequo no longer had any pokemon capable of continuing the battle. He had lost. This was the first time he had lost a battle.

He left the gym, defeated. Would his pokemon even believe in his battling skills after this? Could he even become the strong trainer he wanted to become?

Chapter 8 - Studying The Supernatural

Sequo was in Hearthome City’s local library, reading a book titled: Ghost Types And Their Capabilities. He was hoping this would give him some ideas for better strategies. The book read:

“Ghost types are powerful, as normal and fighting moves are generally ineffective against them. However, their biggest weaknesses are the dark type and other ghost types.”

“Intriguing… So I’ll need a dark type or a ghost type of my own.”

Sequo exited the library, going to the shopping building to buy some poke balls. He would go and catch a dark or ghost type, no matter how long it would take.

Later at night, Sequo was walking through Route 209. This was where the pokemon graveyard known as Lost Tower was located, it was almost the perfect place for him to catch ghost types.

“Hello, Sequo…”

A voice said. It was the same voice he’d heard back in Eterna City, so he quickly recognized it as the same voice.

“What do you want?”

“I can help you, as I know a thing or two about ghost types myself.”

Sequo still didn’t know if the voice was to be trusted, but he didn’t really have much of a choice. He simply decided to follow the advice he would be given, even if the concept of a mysterious guiding voice in his head did sound a bit difficult to believe.

“So, how are you planning to help me?”

“I will show you the location of a powerful ghost/dark type known as Spiritomb.”

He was intrigued now. Spiritomb was a pokemon his mother had used, therefore, he had seen it in videos of the league matches. It was quite a strong pokemon.

“So, where can I find it?”

“On top of the Lost Tower.”

Following the advice, Sequo began climbing the many floors of Lost Tower, until he reached the top floor. However, it was empty. There was nothing but a strange stone that almost looked like it had a face carved into it.

Suddenly, a ghostly pokemon emerged from the stone. This was Spiritomb. But Sequo was not scared, instead, he was ready to battle.

“Go, Fin! Use dragon claw!”
As the Gible enhanced its claws with draconic energy, its powerful claw swipe dealt some damage to the Spiritomb, but not enough to make it faint.

Meanwhile, the Spiritomb used dark pulse, releasing a blast of malicious energy at the Gible. However, the Gible was not going to faint yet either.

“Fin, use rock slide!”

The Gible hurled large boulders towards the Spiritomb, dealing a bit more damage.

The Spiritomb used shadow ball, sending a sphere of ghostly energy towards the Gible and knocking it out.

“Go, Flora! Use magical leaf!”

The Budew sent a flurry of whimsically charged leaves towards the Spiritomb, finally weakening it enough to be caught.

Sequo threw the poke ball. The poke ball shook once, then twice, and finally a third time. He had captured the Spiritomb with the aid of the mysterious voice. Maybe he would finally be strong enough to defeat Fantina now.

“I’ll call you Wisp!”

He said. However, there was one question that he wanted to ask.

“Why and where are you guiding me, strange voice?”

“I am simply trying to help you on your journey. If you wish to reject my help, you are free to do so, but you probably wouldn’t get as far as you would with my help.”

Chapter 9 - A Rematch

Sequo walked through the doors of the Hearthome City gym, ready for a rematch against Fantina with his newly caught Spiritomb.

“You’re back for a rematch, aren’t you? Choose two of your pokemon to fight with the two of mine.”

Fantina was already waiting at the gym, seemingly recognizing Sequo’s intentions for a rematch. But Sequo was not planning to lose again.

“Indeed. Go, Wisp!”

He sent out his Spiritomb, commanding his pokemon in battle with fierce confidence.

“Go, Shade! Use hex!”

The Duskull unleashed a flurry of relentless ghostly attacks, dealing a bit of damage to the Spiritomb, but only a little bit.

“Wisp, use dark pulse!”

The Spiritomb released a pulse of malevolent energy at the Duskull, nearly knocking it out in one attack. But Fantina would not give up yet.

“Shade, use shadow ball!”

The Duskull hurled a sphere of shadowy energy at the Spiritomb, dealing some damage to it. However, it was still not particularly close to fainting yet.

“Wisp, use shadow sneak!”

The Spiritomb extended its shadow, swiftly attacking the Duskull from behind and knocking it out quickly.

“Go, Soul! Use phantom force!”

Fantina sent out her Mismagius, which immediately vanished, leaving the Spiritomb wondering where it was. The Spiritomb attempted to use shadow ball, but the attack missed.

“Soul, use shadow ball!”

As the Mismagius reappeared, it unleashed a sphere of shadowy energy at the Spiritomb, knocking it out.

“Go, Fin! Use dragon claw!”

As Sequo sent out his Gible, the Gible enhanced its claws with draconic energy, dealing some damage to the Mismagius.

“Soul, use hex!”

The Mismagius relentlessly attacked the Gible, almost making it faint. Suddenly, a strange glow surrounded the Gible, and as the glow faded, Sequo could see a larger, more fierce pokemon known as Gabite. It had evolved.

“Fin, use dragon claw!”

The Gible, now a Gabite, enhanced its claws with draconic energy once more, finally dealing enough damage to knock out the Mismagius at last. The attack seemed to be much more powerful than before, most likely due to the evolution.

“Impressive. You’ve won the Hearthome City gym badge.”

Fantina congratulated Sequo on both his victory and his pokemon having evolved. Sequo was proud of himself too, after all, his pokemon had evolved and won him the third gym badge.

Chapter 10 - Family News

Soon after the gym battle, Sequo received a phone call. He opened the phone to see it was Cynthia.

“Hello there, Sequo. I heard you managed to defeat the Hearthome City gym this time.”

“Indeed. I won on my second try, when my Gible evolved!”
“Oh, that’s nice! Evolution is a sign you’ve grown on your journey alongside your pokemon.”

“I also caught what might be the strongest ghost type there is!”
Sequo could hear Cynthia’s voice go from calm to surprised and concerned, almost like a shocked gasp. He continued with:

“That’s right! I’ve got a Spiritomb now!”

“Spiritomb is indeed a strong ghost type. It’s not the strongest, but that’s a story for another time. Also, I do not advise attempting to seek out a stronger one.”

While he didn’t know of any ghost types stronger than Spiritomb, he decided to just use Spiritomb at least for now. After all, Cynthia had specifically told him not to try to get a stronger one. Then, she continued with:

“Also, you do still need to train your Spiritomb before it can match mine. It is stated that when a ghost type is able to briefly reunite the living and deceased, that’s a sign of a strong ghost type.”

He remembered when he read the book about ghost types and their capabilities. The book had stated something about reuniting the living and the deceased, however, he hadn’t looked into it since he had mostly wanted to look into the strengths and weaknesses of ghost type pokemon. That was why he decided to ask:

“Reunite the living and the deceased?”

“I’ll explain later, I have my champion jobs to do right now. And by the way, Duca will be visiting the Sinnoh region in a few months.”

His older sister, Duca, the one he had always been overshadowed by. Duca had become a powerful trainer very quickly after starting her journey in the Unova region, and he had felt almost as if Cynthia favored her over him.

But this was his chance. His chance to defeat her and prove his superiority. To get the recognition he felt like he deserved from Cynthia.

Chapter 11 - A battle between siblings

It had been a few months after Cynthia’s news. During these months, Sequo had won more gym badges, caught more pokemon, and trained and evolved his team to become stronger and unlock his full potential. He had a full team of six pokemon, most of them in their final evolution form.

Now he was exiting the Canalave City gym with a new gym badge in his hand. He had defeated the gym leader, Roark, who had moved to Canalave City after the previous gym leader Byron’s retirement. This was the second last gym badge he needed.

He had become a strong trainer, but was he now strong enough to defeat Duca? That question was about to be answered soon, as Sequo noticed a familiar girl sitting on a nearby bench. That girl was Duca.

“Oh, hi there, little bro!”

“Hi…”

“Should we have a battle? I’d love to test my skills before I go back to Unova to battle the Elite Four.”

“Sure thing! I have been waiting to prove my strength to you for a long time!”

The two looked around and found a suitable place for a battle. And now, it was his turn to prove his improvement. Maybe he could finally be considered a better battler than Duca. Maybe he would no longer be overshadowed by her. Sequo started the battle with:

“Go, Wave!”

Wave was a Floatzel he had caught during his travels when it was still a Buizel. Now, it had grown into a powerful Floatzel capable of helping him surf around the ocean, a somewhat useful capability in Sinnoh.

“Go, Leaf! Use seed bomb!”

Duca sent out a green, monkey-like pokemon that somewhat resembled an Infernape. Sequo looked at his pokedex to find out the pokemon was a grass type pokemon called Simisage. The Simisage attacked with a barrage of large seeds, dealing a lot of damage to the Floatzel. However, Sequo had an idea.

“Wave, use icy wind!”

The Floatzel attacked with a gust of chilling wind aimed at the Simisage, also dealing severe damage due to the type advantage of the attack.

“Impressive. You know type matchups well. Leaf, use razor leaf!”

The Simisage attacked again by sending sharp, razor-like leaves at the Floatzel, knocking it out. Sequo was the first one to lose a pokemon, but he was not about to give up this easily.

“Go, Joy! Use air cutter!”

Sequo sent out a pokemon known as Togetic. He had found it when it was just an egg, which later ended up hatching into a Togepi and later evolved into Togetic. The Togetic unleashed a razor-like wind attack, almost knocking out the Simisage.

“Come back, Leaf! Go, Shell and use stone edge!”

Duca sent out a large blue turtle-like pokemon, it almost resembled a Torterra but it was standing on two legs instead of four. Sequo’s pokedex stated that it was a water and rock type called Carracosta. The Carracosta attacked with a bunch of sharp stones, knocking out the Togetic.

“Go, Flora! Use petal dance!”

Sequo sent out a Roserade, the final evolved form of the Budew he had caught back in Eterna Forest. The Roserade attacked with an array of beautiful petals, knocking out the Carracosta in turn.

“Go, Light! Use fire blast!”

Duca sent out a pokemon that resembled an eerie chandelier with blue flames. According to Sequo’s pokedex, the pokemon was a fire and ghost type known as Chandelure. The Chandelure unleashed a devastating blast of intense flames, knocking out the Roserade.

“Go, Mind! Use psycho cut!”

Sequo sent out a pokemon known as Gallade. The Gallade was a pokemon he had caught back when it was still in its first form, a Ralts. The Gallade sliced at the Chandelure with a blade made of psychic energy, dealing some damage but not knocking it out yet.

“Light, use shadow ball!”

The Chandelure struck the Gallade with a sphere of ghostly shadow energy, knocking it out as well. It was becoming clear that Sequo would not be able to win this battle, however, he was still not ready to give up.

“Go, Wisp! Use dark pulse!”

Sequo sent out his Spiritomb. It unleashed a devastating attack of malicious energy, finally knocking out the Chandelure.

“Go, Trio! Use draco meteor!”

Duca sent out a large and imposing pokemon with three heads. According to Sequo’s pokedex, the pokemon was Hydreigon, a dragon and dark type pokemon. The Hydreigon attacked with a meteor of draconic energy to knock out Spiritomb. Sequo was now down to his last pokemon.

“Go, Fin! Use dragon claw”

Sequo sent out his Gabite. The Gabite enhanced its claws with powerful draconic energy and slashed the Hydreigon with them, but dealt only a bit of damage despite the super effective attack.

“Trio, finish it! Use outrage!”

The Hydreigon unleashed a rampaging attack that knocked the Gabite out quickly. Sequo had lost the battle. He had once again been beaten by Duca. Could he ever even become the strong trainer he wanted to be? Or was he just doomed to lose over and over again?

Chapter 12 - A Guiding Voice

It hadn’t been long since Sequo was defeated by Duca. During this time, he had contemplated on what to do. After all, if he lost to Duca, could he ever become the champion? Maybe he was simply too weak?

Suddenly, he noticed that someone was calling him on his phone. It was Cynthia.

“Greetings, Sequo.”

“What do you want?”

“I just wanted to tell you something.”

“Fine, what is it?”

“You should try to become stronger despite the setbacks you face along the way. No one is perfect at the beginning.”

“Well, this isn’t the beginning! I’m not a beginner! I already have seven badges, and you’re treating me like a beginner?! Do you think I’m still a baby?”

“I just wanted to help you…”

He ended the call. He had now decided to only have one goal. To become stronger, stronger than Duca, stronger than Cynthia, stronger than anyone. But what could he do to reach that goal? What was the path? It would be so much easier if the goal was already reached.

That was when he heard a familiar voice. It was the same mysterious voice that had assisted him before.

“Sequo…”

“What do you want from me?”

“Don’t you wish life to be how you wanted it to be? One where you could be as strong as you want? One where you would never have to suffer defeat? One where you could rule over everything?”

“Well, that would be nice if it was actually possible.”

“Nothing needs to be impossible. Anything can be possible with the proper knowledge and trust.”

“What are you trying to tell me?”

“Well, do you remember the statue you saw back in Eterna City? The two legendary pokemon of space and time?”

“Indeed.”

“Well, those two are not the only ones with such massive powers. For your purposes, you need the other one.”

“And how could I find the other one?”

“You’ll find out, but only if you fully trust me.”

While he had initially been suspicious of the voice, the voice had helped him throughout his journey. The voice had always delivered what it had promised. Eventually, he came to the conclusion to trust the voice. After all, that could be the only way for him to become strong enough.

“I trust you.”

This is all the content I managed to write before I ended up losing interest. The fic is now discontinued and will never be completed. I can understand why it's disappointing to end the entire story on a cliffhanger, but in case you want a story with similar tropes and characters, I have considered rewriting/remaking the story. (Technically I am hesitant on calling it a rewrite since it will have a lot of major differences, but it will follow similar tropes and some of the characters from this fic will be returning as well)
