[Day 1] Odile's 7 Deadly Scumtells Mafia

"Letting us all start this game during the day does give us a chance to get to know each other," he offered to Morgan.

"This too. I've come to appreciate the calm before the storm, as it were, to get to know everyone a bit." Her eyes were still on Morgan; still wary, but perhaps with less hesitation. Coming to one's defense will do that, even when the one defending you in a ghost, she supposed.

Wallace's eyebrows rose as he read his Odile-given note before folding it and tucking it away in a pocket that by all rights had no business being there, but what outfit was complete without pockets?

"So, it's going to be that kind of party. I guess the blood sea should have been a dead giveaway but I've been wrong before." He shrugged. "In the contest circle, you can never judge a book by its cover. Even if that cover is really, really fabulous."

His eyes swept over the assembled group. "I guess we're on to the appeals, now."

Morgan looked wounded. “Froggy, froggy, c’mon, I’m not so sloppy I’d leak my note so quickly. I’ve just played something like this before, I thought I was gonna get to play the best role based on what Satan promised me, but I suppose that’s what I get for dealing with the devil~”

Baraz barked out a laugh, holding a paw to his chest and tossing his head, beads jangling. "Of course not. If anyone here has gotten the best role, it's certainly me. It's only fitting."

"Of course not, but even if I was, you're not gonna find them simply by asking, are you? We gotta figure it out, like detectives! That's the point of the game! You like games, yeah?"

Well, of course she wouldn’t just tell him if she was a Bad Guy. That would make her a very dumb Bad Guy. But Neo could at least take a peek into her emotions while she answered and—

Oh. Right. He couldn’t do that here.



Hmph.

Neo sighed and sat. What were they supposed to do, then? He wished he could skip all the boring stuff and get right to catching Bad Guys.

He supposed he still had important questions to ask. He tilted his head at the Fussy-Lady.



“You do not like to be floated?”

It hadn't even been that high, but it wasn't like she was going to tell him heights made her uncomfortable. Especially when there were ghosts far more worrisome things nearby. (Oh, come on, she tried to help you, Kimiko argued with herself.)

"Er... not unexpectedly, no. I like solid ground. Or water. Water's nice."

"Oh, and uh, thank you, by the way."

"S'alright," Morgan muttered back. She wasn't sure why she'd decided to lash herself to Kimiko, aside from maybe the constant positive reinforcement she was getting from, well, okay maybe that wasn't a mystery. But it still felt good to make progress with Kimiko's trust, in spite of the way that threatened the thing that made hanging out with Kimiko enjoyable in the first place. (Stupid human and Mismagius wants running up against one another again.)

Baraz barked out a laugh, holding a paw to his chest and tossing his head, beads jangling. "Of course not. If anyone here has gotten the best role, it's certainly me. It's only fitting."

Morgan held a tendril to her mouth and laughed back, even though she had absolutely no clue at all what was funny about his remark. It was best to play along with these types. Avoid bruising the ego. "Yeah, of course, why not? You seem like a perfectly fine, uhh, buisel evolution." (Would that end up offending him? Hopefully not, but if it would there was nothing she could do about it. She hadn't exactly spent the last ten months memorizing the Encyclopedia of Species.)

A voting game... This wasn't what Grovyle expected. He was someone that preferred working independently and either use his physical strength to get by. He was hoping that whatever game that would have been enacted would be something that would have been, at the worst, needing the thirteen to work together... but deception and voting?

It wasn't at all what he wanted, but given the situation, he had no choice but to finally pay attention to the others.

It felt easier to look at some of his fellow companions first. He did have a human in his life that proved reliable, but those here seemed far to well dressed and adorned, like they were from a different world.

The Floatzel certainly opened his first statement quite boldly. "Hello there," Grovyle said, not sure how to introduce himself. "Seems like you're quite brazen and relaxed. I'd like to understand how you could claim to have the best role here. Is it something out of this world, or perhaps..." Grovyle paused for a moment, "you have knowledge of other roles?"

Morgan held a tendril to her mouth and laughed back, even though she had absolutely no clue at all what was funny about his remark. It was best to play along with these types. Avoid bruising the ego. The Mismagius was certainly getting friendly with everyone too. Maybe he was biased, but he never did trust ghost types much after Dusknoir. "And you..." The flattery toward the Floatzel was thinly veiled, perhaps almost too obvious. "What do you mean by why not? Is that affirmation of the Floatzel? Or is it merely trying to garner good will?"

The Espeon seemed like another individual that was a little cryptic, but they gave off a more calmer feel than the Mismagius. Grovyle wasn't sure what to say to them, but he did wonder what the cryptic question was.

And of course, the human Kimiko who had been quite center stage. He didn't feel like approaching her would be helpful yet, given that there seemed to be others interested in her - but perhaps she would play a central role too.

He looked to the rest of the crowd. Though many had gotten up before the game started, Grovyle wasn't sure there was actually much to go around. It wasn't helpful if everyone was going to keep to themselves - after all, how would the liars be identified? Yet without the social background (nor the social energy) to back him up, he simply gave an expectant look at the rest, as if anticipating them to give their views.

[[I haven't played any RP Mafia before, so I don't know if I'm supposed to be giving game thoughts and information through my character or in OOC text. Specifically, I am much more experienced in Mafia than Roleplaying, so most of my Roleplay will heavily gravitate towards a game context.

I may not be around EOD so I would appreciate activity before then where possible.]]

Matthias peered inquisitively at the metagross – a particularly robotic example of the species, it seemed.

"I can't tell whether that's an attempt to hint at being a Vigilante – ahem, a 'Violent Do-Gooder', that is – a bluff, or a joke," he said, chuckling mildly. "But yes, we should start voting. We don't actually have much longer to vote, especially considering some of our participants might, ah, be asleep in the final moments of the vote. Substantive discussion is valuable, lest we waste our first day and give the Mafia the advantage."

The Greninja frowned, considering the limited information available.

He sniffed, pressing a knuckle to his mouth. "It seems we will have ourselves one or more substitutes – or even 'modkills' – soon enough. That's a shame. While silent players may seem like a 'safe' vote, I would argue that they're a non-threat and not worth considering for a vote. If we do lose those players, that's to the benefit of the Mafia, I would imagine. Let's hope they make an appearance, or at least that our singular host finds appropriate replacements."

Matthias narrowed his eyes in particular at the most silent of the players, willing them to show up. Hadn't everyone accepted an invitation? Each of them owed the rest their good faith participation! Still, it wasn't worth voting for someone who may as well not exist, was it...? One would think that teams of Mafia would prompt each other to post rather than risk getting removed. This degree of silence, if it was evidence of anything, was evidence of not having known allies prodding them into activity.

"There is one argument I might accept in favour of not voting, but I don't really feel good about it. That is, since this is a 'role madness' game, the consequences of choosing wrong might be severe, and the benefits of having all our roles in play might be considerable. On the other hand, they might not. I say we embrace the risk – voting is the only certain way for Town to win, after all!"

Even if there were some bad outcomes from voting out the wrong person on Day 1, there was a chance that they could vote out a member of the Mafia. That chance was a valuable one – losses were less dear to Town than they were to Mafia – they ought to take it.

But who to vote for, from those players not still silent...?

"I suppose... I'll choose Grovyle. It's not that I have a hunch, it just may as well be him as anyone else. My apologies if you are entirely innocent, sir; this is simply the game we are playing."

Only that my own is certainly the best of them.” The fact that this declaration might make him a potential target to his enemies did not seem to bother him. He had many enemies back home. He was not the sort to hide from them.

"Honestly, I expected something freakier. You may want to mind your advertisements. How've you been, Odile?"

Odile turned her head to an unnatural degree to face down the meatsack who had the fucking audacity to--

OH. Wait. She knew this one! Very well, actually! That violent look morphed into a grin, and she promptly bum rushed the girl, Tigger tackling Winnie-the-Pooh style. Except, before they hit the blood, Kimiko's body stopped. She was now hovering mid-air with the literal devil on top of her. Lucky girl.

"Blondie!" she gasped. "You're a sight for sore eyes. Your name is...now hang on, don't correct me...starts with a K...Kimi..." She trailed off, eyes unfocused for a beat, before she snapped. "Kimi it is. I've been better, but some woman had the audacity to comment on my decorating skills, and I'd happily promote her to a missing person if I didn't like her."

She covered her mouth as she laughed, getting up off Kimiko and hovering back down to the blood, allowing her to do the same. "And you? Game treating you well?"

“Well, that’s not Pact Killer. Goddamnit. Does that means everyone’s invitation told them they could kill people? I can’t believe Satan would commit false advertising.”

While she waited for Kimiko's answer, she suddenly gasped, as if she were offended. "Me? False advertising? You think so little of me. I wouldn't lie about mass homicide." A coy, Grinch-like smile. "Or maybe I would?" [[this is not a confirmation of anything, pure RP flavor]]

"The Devil," he murmured to himself, his hands twitching as dormant memories of a warding gesture tried to resurface.

And as if to drive her point home, the greninja spoke. All she could do was smile wider. Most of these folks were quite nice!

She glanced down at her wrist, checking a watch that wasn't there. Puckering her lips sourly, she slid a cursory glance around at her players, then turned around to face a jumbotron that wasn't there before. On it displayed the following:

Baraz chuckled at the overly-prepared Greninja and his charts full of runes (a foreign script, and yet somehow Baraz found himself understanding it all the same). "Well, you're an eager one." He couldn't say he disliked this.

The Floatzel cast his eyes around the group. He wasn't inclined to follow in anyone's shadow. He would make his own move.

He jabbed a paw forward at Gabriel.


"You there! Human. I cast my 'vote' for you."

Some unexplainable instinct told him that the boy was a threat. Not an enemy, necessarily--he had nothing to go on if he were claiming certainty of that, same as anyone. But rather, that he didn't want to have the boy as his enemy, and that it was better to goad him sooner rather than later.

Yes, he was certain of one thing and one thing only--if the boy was his enemy, he would never know it until the knife had plunged into his back.

[[Fishing for info on power roles is (would usually be) probably the closest thing to a strong D1 scumread I could hope for. Vaguely thought about throwing out a jab in that direction my last post along the lines of "you shouldn't want to know where the power roles are yet either" but honestly at that point it was the only thing to have happened so if you wanted to do something it was kinda all that was there to comment on? That makes me less suspicious of it than normal, especially because it is kinda weird gameplay to softclaim "the best role" D1. Enough so that I didn't wanna start a train on them, but hey fuck it I'll hop onto one. I'm not married to this vote but I wanna at least see some reasoning for that gameplay.]]

"And then if we're lucky then Satan will kill all the Mafia players for being part of the half of the party that's quiet and we'll have the fastest win in recorded history~" (Though, Morgan did not seem to be taking that possibility very seriously. If anything, it was more likely she was worried about what would happen if so many people refused to play along with Satan's little game.)

The minior would be most delicious, but the slugma-hybrid’s sheer impossibility makes the possibility of dissection intriguing. There is already building support for it.

This was not a species he was familiar with, and perhaps that was what made it a little more irritating. Straightening his back a bit, he said, "Though I would have thought to go among the less active members; if we are to find the liars, how would we be able to work that out with silent individuals?"

His leaf blades tingled a bit. If only a quick brawl or attack could provoke some reactions, but he didn't feel like that would be welcome - or even effective - here. "I suppose that gives us the information that if you were to be one of the liars, you could be protecting a silent ally who has yet to contribute. However, I face a similar problem to you right now, that being insufficient information to formalize a vote."

He looked over to the Metagross. While the Pokemon has been somewhat... antagonistic in demeanor, their proposition of an optimal strategy piqued Grovyle's interest. "Perhaps you would like to share some of that optimal strategy, if there's a clear path to follow?

At least, it certainly didn't look like anyone else thought their comment was worth noting as out of place. "Perhaps you would have some thoughts about how to navigate the fact that only half appear to be playing the game, then?

"Whoa wait I don't see why we're so quick to just kill someone! Unless we have good information," Anubis barked.

He didn't like this. A hunt was supposed to only iniate on a target they knew, not just have the pack randomly start chasing tails.

"Killing a good guy is reckless strategy, unsound tactics."

[[A quick post, don't mind Anubis, this is a flavorful way of me saying that I don't get D1 kills especially in a role madness game, but I am sure folks will disagree vehemently and we'll do the same song and dance. I don't relish the idea of throwing completely blind.

Ambivalent on eliminating today, it is role madness where town generally gets more out of nights and I generally enjoy night-heavy games with more roles getting to do their thing but also eliminating is, you know, how we actually progress, and gives good info. I suspect Chibi is just doing RP with the ‘best role’ thing since their character is like that, so I wouldn’t read much into it.]]
