[[Continuing my prev post b/c I hit reply too fast, I think what I tend to read into is folks trying to drop/collect info based on what they know. And right now the only thing they know is their role PM. I try to be on the lookout for Day 1 chatter that helps to sort out game set up based on what players know. So if your role insinuates there might be multiple killing factions in play, you might hint at that to see if anyone else can corroborate it. I read it as "killing role without being Mafia" and looked at the role list and went, hmm she has a point.

TL;DR I never know if role madness potential role lists are ever useful, other than driving my paranoia through the roof out of the gate.]]

Anubis huffed in frustration. So many people were talking, and he had no idea what to think for sure anymore. "I understand that we need information but I cannot in good conscience undetake a hunt without at least an inkling of a reason," he decided firmly.

He eyed the Floatzel. He was certainly talking a big game, did he have some kind of suspicion he couldn't share?

But then everyone seemed eager to vote that Grovyle or the strange Slugma Child.

Free is always such a wildcard because she can lie like a pro and I've been both instinctively wrong and instinctively right about her, and can't really say. Chibi's behaviour pings me as interesting. Nobody really strong reads either way, especially since some role madness is going around... Maybe chibi? if only because they feel a little weird.
But again, the hill i die on, is not voting D1. I'll acquiesce and do it day 2, I'll watch people throw around accusations D1 but unless there was real suspicion I won't vote. Especially on rolle madness

Matthias was getting tired, given the way conversations seemed to take days in this strange dimension. (That, and he was unaccountably distracted by Wallace's lingering looks, to his chagrin.) It wasn't likely he'd have very much more to say before EOD. [[Because it's getting late and I have shit to do]]

Using rudimentary cryokinesis, he assembled a sortof chalkboard of frozen blood (absolutely appalling, really) on which to inscribe his notes for the benefit of other participants.

(He didn't have it in his heart to vote for Morgan, at least not yet, in case this truly was her guardian's first-ever game as an Innocent. He wasn't about to give her a permanent pass based on gambler's fallacy alone, though...)

(As for Gabriel, he didn't consider his guardian's absence suspicious – otherworldly social deduction game-playing spirits must have busy lives. It was certainly true that Gabriel would be very challenging to read correctly, but it seemed a shame to jump the gun before he'd said anything much.)

"The Grovyle's thoughts are certainly interesting," he added, mildly. "Not a playstyle I'm familiar with, and I'm not totally sure what to make of it, but to each their own. Still, I can't say I don't appreciate being considered helpful! And I'm inclined to view aggressive contributions of his size and number as a soft sign of being innocent."

He pressed a knuckle to his mouth again, and sighed nasally. He still had to make a decision, didn't he...

"Before I change my vote... I've noticed several players have offered some degree of suspicion towards Nocitlālin, but nobody has actually voted for her. I can't say I trust her any more than anyone else myself, and that 'hey, who should we kill?' message came off as a little craven to me, so I would be willing to vote for her, but... first I want to see one of the players who's talked about her put their money where their mouth is, so to speak."

Well, apparently the host of this game, the...hell, what was it? The Brambleghast -- or at least that was what the form that she had taken when she made the odd request. Anyhow, some of the people apparently already knew them.

This was interesting for the Latios: it probably meant this kind of "game" had happened not less than a few times already. He didn't think it wise to say anything too pre-maturely, lest his "death" be hastened by those whose swords -- or, in this case, mouths, move faster than their brains (lucky for him, that was most of the humans that tried taking one-on-one aerial battles with him in Hoenn, which...well, if he was attacked here, he had little recourse.

Granted, there were very few conclusions that could be made on the first day, given that most of the people probably want to keep their cards close to their chest. "No point voting anyone at this stage at least -- if we die, we die, and if we get eliminated on the first day, that's just bad luck."

Well, that sounded like something sound to say at least...

Baraz eyed the Houndoom and the pale-haired human girl. Both of them had chosen to abstain from voting, and had defended that choice.


“Ha! That is fair. However… this extra day afforded to us is our advantage. If we don’t use it, then we hand the opening attack to our enemy—no different than if the game had opened with nightfall!”

He was already rather sure that it was pointless to convince them otherwise, and didn’t find it suspicious. They had their convictions, he had his. So long as the day was not wasted by sitting around in silence, he was satisfied.

Mafia. Ah that one specific murder game.

Pleione spun around trying to disassociate itself from the endless crimson that made it dizzy.

If this was a Mafia game, then it was as clear as a new moon sky- there wasn't much information on the first day.

Mafia

A voting game... This wasn't what Grovyle expected. He was someone that preferred working independently and either use his physical strength to get by. He was hoping that whatever game that would have been enacted would be something that would have been, at the worst, needing the thirteen to work together... but deception and voting?

It wasn't at all what he wanted, but given the situation, he had no choice but to finally pay attention to the others.



It felt easier to look at some of his fellow companions first. He did have a human in his life that proved reliable, but those here seemed far to well dressed and adorned, like they were from a different world.

The Floatzel certainly opened his first statement quite boldly. "Hello there," Grovyle said, not sure how to introduce himself. "Seems like you're quite brazen and relaxed. I'd like to understand how you could claim to have the best role here. Is it something out of this world, or perhaps..." Grovyle paused for a moment, "you have knowledge of other roles?"

The Mismagius was certainly getting friendly with everyone too. Maybe he was biased, but he never did trust ghost types much after Dusknoir. "And you..." The flattery toward the Floatzel was thinly veiled, perhaps almost too obvious. "What do you mean by why not? Is that affirmation of the Floatzel? Or is it merely trying to garner good will?"



The Espeon seemed like another individual that was a little cryptic, but they gave off a more calmer feel than the Mismagius. Grovyle wasn't sure what to say to them, but he did wonder what the cryptic question was.

And of course, the human Kimiko who had been quite center stage. He didn't feel like approaching her would be helpful yet, given that there seemed to be others interested in her - but perhaps she would play a central role too.

He looked to the rest of the crowd. Though many had gotten up before the game started, Grovyle wasn't sure there was actually much to go around. It wasn't helpful if everyone was going to keep to themselves - after all, how would the liars be identified? Yet without the social background (nor the social energy) to back him up, he simply gave an expectant look at the rest, as if anticipating them to give their vi

Gabriel blinked. He supposed he should be flattered all these people were convinced he was good at this, but he hadn't met any of them before, right? There was a voice that spoke that was sort of him and sort of not; maybe they knew that voice? This dream was confusing. He rubbed his temples, livening up the slime on his face.

"Well, okay. Let's go through what's happened today so far a bit."

"Forgive me, but— 'Pact Killer'? I have no idea what you mean. Is this some obscure idea you expected to be in the game, or did you, ah, just reveal something mentioned in your note?"

Presumably 'Pact' was a 'third party alignment' alongside Town and Mafia, judging by how the Mismagius phrased it.

"Obviously, Morgan already said she'd just made a wrong assumption based on a previous game she was in, and I believe her on that one. Mainly the fact Matthias jumped on it makes him sound pretty interested in potential third party factions. Worth noting."

"Letting us all start this game during the day does give us a chance to get to know each other," he offered to Morgan. "We can all discuss our options, before the mafia try to kill someone tonight. Although unless the mafia feel like admitting their guilt, I am uncertain how much we can glean this early," he mused.

"Something that's jumping out at me a bit, thinking about it, is Anubis started out like he was open to all options and only later shifted to taking this hardline stance against voting anybody out on day one?"

"Kimiko and Neo spent most of the start of the day not saying anything very relevant. Which is fair, I guess, not too much to say yet, but."

Baraz barked out a laugh, holding a paw to his chest and tossing his head, beads jangling. "Of course not. If anyone here has gotten the best role, it's certainly me. It's only fitting."

"Then Baraz comes right out of the gate with this. At first I thought he was just, you know, boasting, but nah, it's a real claim. That feels like a pretty bold thing to do first thing if you're mafia, given it's inevitably going to draw a bunch of attention."

"And yeah, I don't think this is fishing, just prodding at what was meant by a really blatant statement. It's not like the Floatzel was trying to be discreet about saying what he did in a way where you might want to stay quiet about having picked it up; it's just sorting out whether the thing with alarm bells on it is a claim or a joke or what. I think that's fair enough."

He sniffed, pressing a knuckle to his mouth. "It seems we will have ourselves one or more substitutes – or even 'modkills' – soon enough. That's a shame. While silent players may seem like a 'safe' vote, I would argue that they're a non-threat and not worth considering for a vote. If we do lose those players, that's to the benefit of the Mafia, I would imagine. Let's hope they make an appearance, or at least that our singular host finds appropriate replacements."

"Yeah, agreed, I don't really think we should be taking aim at the most silent people first in a game like this. If these were just dead slots we'll never get any info about that could happen to anyone, that'd be fair, but if anything the mafia tends to be more active because they're talking to each other so they're less likely to just forget about the game. Not a sure thing or anything, but not my first inclination to look there."

"There is one argument I might accept in favour of not voting, but I don't really feel good about it. That is, since this is a 'role madness' game, the consequences of choosing wrong might be severe, and the benefits of having all our roles in play might be considerable. On the other hand, they might not. I say we embrace the risk – voting is the only certain way for Town to win, after all!"

Even if there were some bad outcomes from voting out the wrong person on Day 1, there was a chance that they could vote out a member of the Mafia. That chance was a valuable one – losses were less dear to Town than they were to Mafia – they ought to take it.

But who to vote for, from those players not still silent...?

"I suppose... I'll choose Grovyle. It's not that I have a hunch, it just may as well be him as anyone else. My apologies if you are entirely innocent, sir; this is simply the game we are playing."

"My overall hunch is Matthias'd probably do something like this and the chart either way, so yeah, neutral on him for the moment. Baraz's pressure-vote for me also seems normal-slash-neutral."

Morgan's eyes lit up. "Ooh, get 'em, Froggy! We can totally kill Stringbean, that sounds like fun. Let's make 'em squirm a little, at least~"

[[Fishing for info on power roles is (would usually be) probably the closest thing to a strong D1 scumread I could hope for. Vaguely thought about throwing out a jab in that direction my last post along the lines of "you shouldn't want to know where the power roles are yet either" but honestly at that point it was the only thing to have happened so if you wanted to do something it was kinda all that was there to comment on? That makes me less suspicious of it than normal, especially because it is kinda weird gameplay to softclaim "the best role" D1. Enough so that I didn't wanna start a train on them, but hey fuck it I'll hop onto one. I'm not married to this vote but I wanna at least see some reasoning for that gameplay.]]

If anything, it was more likely she was worried about what would happen if so many people refused to play along with Satan's little game.)

Gabriel paused, squinting at the Mismagius. "The way she's going oh yeah, I totally would have commented on this, I just didn't, and not wanting to start a vote train on somebody but being down to join it once somebody else has started it, is pinging me a bit? If anything it might be too obvious? I don't know."

You are not opposed to seeing the grovyle die. You are not opposed to any of these targets dying.

The minior would be most delicious, but the slugma-hybrid’s sheer impossibility makes the possibility of dissection intriguing. There is already building support for it.

Gabriel shuddered, taking a step back from the Metagross. "I'm not a huge fan of this vote on me because, like, it feels opportunistic?" And uncomfortable. "Just jumping on once somebody else has voted, no reason given for agreeing? I mean, no gameplay reason, anyway."

Morgan couldn’t discount the possibility that he was right, she was accustomed to playing off information she didn’t have on the first day. But she enjoyed the chance to play with her food a little. “Okay, maybe, but consider also: I’m having fun~”

Kept getting called scummy and being killed for it, which ofc was accurate at the time but I don’t really get the reasoning any better this time. I mean, I got my start winning a super townie Role Madness setup because they randomly killed the cop D1 as I narrowly avoiding being killed for trying to stop them. I’ve given up on making the D1 abstain hill mine to die on but if other people actually go for it, I won’t try to stop it.]]

[[Going to put town Dragonfree as well, with actually higher conviction than Chibi Pika. While she's experienced and possibly can fake mafia pov, not showing up yesterday to manipulate game state as presumably someone with threadpull in this PL (player list). I waited before commenting because although I don't know her too well, I 100% expected this slot to agree on me not fishing for PRs, and was just waiting for her to say it because there's a chance she wouldn't do it as mafia. In an inactive PL 2 RVS (random voting stage) votes matter much more than others; assuming 1 or 2 of the RVS is town, then it's very easy for mafia or another incorrect town to pile on me with nothing going on, and Dragonfree mafia can take advantage of that by simply refraining from commenting on me.

“I guess now that it’s been pointed out to me, I don’t love Metalcrab’s total non-contributions. That totally slipped under my radar but thinking about it is giving me a sense of deja vu. Tangentially, I don’t think I could read Lava Homunculus’ guardian either way. But I like them enough to join that vote.” [[Free seems town to me but when we were scum together in lover hell mafia I thought she sounded super impressively town to me so I don’t know if I trust my ability to vibe check.]]

“I don’t know if I have a right play here? I don’t want to keep aiming at Stringbean even if it’s in my personal survival best interests, I look like I’m nicking someone else’s idea if I chase after the crab, and I look inconsistent if I abstain. Probably, my best move would be to shut up and avoid making things worse for myself. But I’ve never been good at that.”

Gabriel winced. "Right, yeah, she's doing this again, sort of jumping on a bandwagon once I had a vague suspicion?" Or maybe it was the voice that'd had that suspicion? It was all blending together. "But still not placing a vote there, because then she'd be the first to do that? I don't know, I just feel weird about this play. The main reason I'm hesitating is maybe it's too transparent?"

[[I'm always tripped up on why it's suspicious for players to try to figure out the vaguities of what people are saying. Is it better to keep your guesses as to what they mean to yourself, then? But then if you do, it doesn't help other players who are trying to sort out what's being said. Like right now, I'm actually really baffled b/c I swear Morgan's:

"The main thing people might find suspicious is if you legitimately seem to be trying to hunt down who has a power role. But it's perfectly normal to ask if you're confused about what someone's saying. The main case you'd want to be quiet is if, say, you think someone might have let something slip that could indicate they're a power role but ideally you'd not let the mafia notice that."

Trying to catch up here, but I do disagree with Phantump's assessment on Persephone not being helpful. Noci at least has made a claim they don't have a killing role of any kind (even if that's the easiest kind of innocence claim out there.) Does it mean anything in terms of actually proving innocence? No lol but at least it's gameplay oriented.

[[This made me laugh aloud. Anyway: I've died repeatedly when, despite being scum, I was trying to act the same way I would as town. I was worried that'd happen again even if I'm not faking it, and it seems so far that that wasn't entirely unjustified? I don't necessarily think it's too weird for me to be worried about how I'll look given I don't want to die-- It would remove me from the town headcount and waste a day vote.

I realized I didn't have any options that weren't gonna smell weird, so I pointed that out just so that people would, hopefully, keep in mind that none of my pivot options would look normal and hopefully keep that in mind instead of immediately pointing out that, whoops, I put myself in a position where I don't have any options that look clean. And maybe not kill me, hopefully.]]

Gabriel spread his arms. "I mean, that's fair enough, but this is a collaborative game, you know? Your main goal is to sniff out the mafia, not to avoid getting killed personally. Obsessing about whether your actions could be read as suspect by somebody just kind of... reads suspect, because then your priority doesn't seem to be the town's priority, right?"

He made a small, frustrated noise. "Okay, I'm not feeling great about either Morgan or the creepy Metagross. I guess Morgan's contributing more, but also playing it safer, but also maybe the fact she's so frank about it is actually an indication it's not her?"

Gabriel threw up his hands. "Okay, sure, go do that, whatever that means."

Baraz barked out a laugh at the additions to Matthias’ chart.

“‘We don’t know anything on day one’ indeed. I suppose all the talk that’s happened thus far is just a drunken hallucination.”

There’d been reactions to his initial claim. Reactions to the reactions. Several votes. That was hardly ‘nothing.’

Quiet applause filters through the air again, and Wallace gives the group an approving smile. "My my, what an interesting bunch you are. So lively!"

His gaze swept over the assembled partygoers until he spotted the twinkling Minior.

"You seem opposed to our Grovyle friend here. If we have to pick someone, do you have any thoughts as to who? I don't know, myself. Everyone seems so fun. I'd hate to see their time at this party cut short on account of poor vibes. Some people need time to warm up to the occasion before they're ready to let loose a little."

He leaned towards them and spoke in a stage whisper, "I have a friend who would absolutely adore you, by the way.

Wallace stood back upright and swept his bangs to the side, back into perfect place. "In that regards, unless our Minior friend here has some persuasive material they'd like to share, for the good of the party, I vote to abstain today."

Spoiler: Pano D1 Write up

Major contribution (or as much as one can on Day 1):
- Morgan/ShinyPhantump: misreading their RP as gameplay has created talking points and they've posted a lot of contribution and thoughts.
- Baraz/Chibi Pika: bold play that I've seen before (which annoying they've admitted somewhat cribbing from me in a previous game) but I have no idea what to do with it. Claim that they have the "best role" which is anywhere from a bluff to the truth and anything in between... At least has provided strong talking points for player engagement; ie it gets the people *going*
- Matthias/unrepentantAuthor: chartschartschartstablescharts attention to the game as a whole including some meta-reads on folks who have played before (I have mixed feelings on meta-reads, but as is the nature of the game, it's all a coinflip to a point)
- Grovyle/yiran: very in depth posting and strong knowledge of mafia gameplay in general. In camp "abstain" which feels like what Day 1 boils down to most times

Minor contribution (posting with minimal substance, or minimal posting with substance, but substance at least):
- Gabriel/Dragonfree: minimal posting with irl excuse. the posting they've done is at least helpful and shows attention to the game. (aight they've posted more stuff as I was formatting this, none of that is taken into account here yet.)
- Noci/Persephone: has softclaimed town, or at least a non killing role. not exactly earthshattering, as this is the basic bitch claim of mafia, but it's something, even without indepth posting
- Pleione/lyrical: minimal posting, but has put out a strong stance against abstaining the vote today
- Anubis/Tetra: minimal posting, but has put out a strong stance for abstaining the vote today

- Neo/HelloYellow: on the fence about putting her in the above category instead. This is her usual "friendly poke at people to get them to talk" that I've seen before. The problem is, this is her approach regardless of alignment, so it doesn't really offer much in terms of a read at the moment.
- Kimiko/Seren: pretty much just RP, although this is *also* the MO for Seren based on past games with them so... idk?

Nothing to go off of (Minimal to zero posting):
- Pleione/lyrical: moved to minor contribution category upon seeing new posts
- Peridot/EonDuoLatios: big ol nothingburger of a post imo, no idea what to do

TL;DR I really have no thoughts head empty as far as alignments on D1 day start, *however* I am noting what people are saying and how they're behaving. I find it useful for putting together reads as the game goes along. Day 1 though, I dunno man lol]]

That's not a sure sign of anything other than Persephone choosing to roleplay differently than usual and as a different character, but it has softened the gut vibelean on her, so while I'm still side-eyeing her vote a bit, I think I will go Vote: Morgan (Shiny Phantump) (@Sinderella).]]

Well, apparently the host of this game, the...hell, what was it? The Brambleghast -- or at least that was what the form that she had taken when she made the odd request. Anyhow, some of the people apparently already knew them.

This was interesting for the Latios: it probably meant this kind of "game" had happened not less than a few times already. He didn't think it wise to say anything too pre-maturely, lest his "death" be hastened by those whose swords -- or, in this case, mouths, move faster than their brains (lucky for him, that was most of the humans that tried taking one-on-one aerial battles with him in Hoenn, which...well, if he was attacked here, he had little recourse.

Granted, there were very few conclusions that could be made on the first day, given that most of the people probably want to keep their cards close to their chest. "No point voting anyone at this stage at least -- if we die, we die, and if we get eliminated on the first day, that's just bad luck."

Well, that sounded like something sound to say at least...

Baraz's face split into a toothy grin. "Interesting. I had thought much the same, but had not wanted to say so, in case you might agree with me. If you're willing to lead the charge, that changes things."

His instincts were still telling him that the boy could never truly be free from suspicion. There was always, always a chance he might be the enemy, and it was of the utmost importance to never forget this. However... it now seemed very unlikely that Gabriel and Morgan were partners in crime. This was important.

Gabriel looked up at the... what kind of Pokémon was that? It reminded him of an illustration in a book or something. "Okay, well, do you have any thoughts at all on what everyone else has been saying?"

"I feel that what they're discussing is interesting, but ultimately somewhat fruitless. I know...Baraz, I think, the Floatzel, said he had the 'best role', and I guess some people are picking up on that as a suspicious point, but...well, if they wanted to mean to say they were the scum, that's unlikely, since who wants to give clues to be killed at the start?"

Peridot thought for a while, before continuing. "The points against Morgan are a bit more convincing. I mean, they kinda want to really go for someone on day one...I mean, I think maybe the scum wants to do that so they 'get' another kill. I'll uh..." He realised this is kinda contradicting his original viewpoint, but so be it. "Well, I'll vote against Morgan. I just don't think a townie would be so eager to wanna go for a random shot in the dark."

"Oh, right. I haven't introduced myself yet. I'm Peridot, leader of the 197th Squadron of the Liberation Army of Hoenn. It's nice to meet you!"

[OOC: I mean it's to the benefit of scum if we were to vote out one of our own, so I'm assuming Phantump actually wants that -- assuming scum > town, there's more chance that we vote out town than scum. Technically I think not voting anyone out is good especially in imperfect information given that the risk of losing two townies is very high, which is let's say 1/5 of all our people assuming 3 are scum at the very least]
