April 1st Game - Extended Exchange Edition
Organizer: Tango
A special shout-out to rimly and her brand new fic, 'Post Clear'!
This is my first time hosting catnip, but I'll do my best and I hope everyone has a great time! If anyone has any feedback at any point regarding catnip, I'd be interested to hear opinions.
This variant attempts to boost overall review satisfaction with the following rule changes!
- 500 minimum review wordcount (instead of the usual 250)
- No rolls. Instead, author and reviewer preferences would be attempted to be manually accounted for by the host.
- 7k chapters max wordcount (Chapters up to 14k can be accommodated per the next rule below!)
- Optional double submission - Chapters up to 14k can be reviewed for a 1,000 word review or be separate for two chapters up to 7k for 500 word reviews for each. During the pairing phase, the participant can stipulate both submissions go to the same reviewer for both.(this is to ensure fics are reviewed for a full chapter up to 14k.) Note: If one or two chapters go beyond a collective 14k, the reviewer is only obligated to review up to 14k.
- Sign up and submission phase will be 48 hours.
- The preference phase will last another 48 hours or will end as soon as all preference forms have been received.
- Pairing phase will last another 48 hours and may involve more communication since different reviewers may be at different points in fics. The idea here is to make sure everyone who is getting a review for a long chapter, and who has signed up for a double submission for the same fic, has the opportunity to have their entire chapter(up to 14k) reviewed by the same participant.
- Review window will last at least one week and may be extended up to another week depending on participants needs due to this being the most extensive variant of catnip offered.
Sign-ups open until Friday, April 3rd 7:00pm EST [
countdown here]. You have until the end of the countdown to make your submission(s).
How to sign up:
Signup is done via TR or Discord DM to the round host (me). In your message, include the following:
- A link to your story on Thousand Roads. You may also specify a certain chapter or selection of chapters you want the reviewer to choose from. Note, however, that the reviewer does not need to read any more than one chapter (between 1,000 and 7,000 words). You may also change your mind and choose another submission as long as the rolling has not taken place yet.
- You may also submit another story as another option, but the reader only needs to pick one of the submitted stories.
- If the chapters of your story tend to be shorter than 1,000 words or longer than 14,000 words, inform the round host (me) so accommodations can be made.
- For this round of catnip, you may have one or two submissions which can be different from each other or be the same for both. If you double submit, you will review fic(s) for two submissions instead one. (This may end up being a 1,000 word review for a long chapter or two 500 word reviews for different chapters or fics.)
- Everyone who has reviewed or betaread all that you have posted of your story so far. Readers who you know have read all that is out of the story but have not provided feedback are not included.
- Content warnings for your story. This means warnings for violence, gore, death, sexual themes, drug use, or other possibly upsetting content.
- Content that you do not want to read. This refers to upsetting content that is typically warned for in content warnings.
- Constructive criticism preferences. For this variant of catnip, please describe your preferences for what kind of concrit you are open to receiving. You may be as detailed as you like and be open to as much or little as you want. These will be posted along with your submission before pairings are determined.
Please address all five points even if no one has reviewed all of your story, your story has no content warnings, you don't care about concrit preferences, or you are fine with reading anything. This way, I can be sure that you have not forgotten to mention anything. If this is your first time participating, please also make sure to read
the first post in the thread so that we're all on the same page.
Also, please do not provide preferences with the submission information. The preference phase comes after everyone can see the participants and submissions!
Preferences Phase (NEW!)
Preference stipulations will be open until Sunday, April 5th 7:00pm EST [countdown here]. You have until the end of the countdown to make your selections.
Preference selection is done via TR or Discord DM to the round host (me). In your message, include the following:
- Bottom 1 Reviewer. Please specify up to one reviewer you do not want to review your fic. You do not need to explain your reasoning.
- Bottom 1 Fic. Of the fics submitted, please list up to one fic you do not want to review. You do not need to explain your reasoning.
- Top 3 Reviewers. Please specify the top 3 participants that you would most prefer to review your fic. You do not need to explain your reasoning.
- Top 3 Fics. Of the submitted fics, please list 3 in the order of most preferred to least preferred for you to read and review. You do not need to explain your reasoning.
Please address all four points even if you don't care about preferences. This way, I can be sure that you have not forgotten to mention anything.
Preferences will:
- Not be shared with other participants.
- Be satisfied if possible.
- Be determined by priority of top to bottom as listed in the previous list above.
Pairing phase will be open until Tuesday, April 7th 7:00pm EST [
countdown here]. You have until the end of the countdown to make any final communications pertaining to reviews for chapters longer than 7k (if you have opted for a double-submission) before pairings are finalized.
Review window opens: once your assignment(s) are posted
Review window closes: Tuesday, April 14th 7:00pm EST [
countdown here]
This round has a review word count minimum of
500 words per review, excluding quotes. Concrit levels may be limited depending on the participant who submitted the fic. Use
this site to check your wordcount. Note that this is just the total review word count, not words per chapter. Stuck on things to say? Check out
this post for a list of reviewing tips and tricks!
