Hey writers! Have you ever come up with a good idea for a story, but you can only figure out how the beginning of it goes, and no idea what to do with it after that? Good news! In the

Seventh Anniversary Story Swap
event, you can get someone else to write the other half of your story for you! Here's how it works: simply write the first half of a short story and send it to me in a forum PM by 11:59 PM GMT on May 2nd. You can see a countdown timer here. Afterwards, everyone who submitted a piece by the deadline will be randomly matched up with another writer. You'll receive the story half of that writer, and you'll have until 11:59 PM GMT May 10th to write your own ending to their story and PM it to me. Then, I'll post the completed stories in this thread at the end of the event, along with the writers responsible for each half in spoilers if you want to guess who wrote each part. A few details:

* Story submissions (both the beginning and ending parts) should aim to be between 500 to 5,000 words. You can use this online counter to check how long your story is.

* If there are any topics you'd prefer to avoid writing about (character death, drug use, etc.), please note them in your PM alongside the first half of your story, and I'll try to ensure you're matched with a submission that doesn't have those elements. Relatedly, it'd probably be best to avoid writing anything with especially heavy themes for this event, although stories that would receive a 'Teen' or 'PG-13' rating are fine.

* If you're unsure how to send a forum PM, you can do so by clicking on my name underneath my avatar in the top left of this post while logged in, then clicking on the 'Start conversation' button in the page that links to. Enter "Story Swap Event Submission" in the title field, then post your story directly into the field below that and click on the 'Start Conversation' button at the bottom of the form.

* You don't need to make a post in this thread to sign up for the event! Simply PM me a story by the May 2nd deadline to enter.

Happy writing!

Are we allowed to volunteer to write the second half of a story without writing the first, or is it intended for people who wrote a first half?

If people could sign up to only write second halves, it would mean that some first parts would get assigned to multiple writers to finish. I don't know if people would consider it slightly unfair if some entries got multiple endings while others didn't by chance, but it might be interesting to see how different writers would finish the same story.

I'll tentatively allow signing up to only write the latter half of a story. If you want to do so, please send a PM to me stating as such before the deadline on May 2nd 11:59 PM GMT.
