Review Blitz 2025 Kick-Off

It's the most wonderful time of the year! As the northern hemisphere slides into darkness, one bright spot remains on the horizon: Review Blitz! It's a whole month of feedback frenzy as we catch up on all those fics we meant comment on throughout the rest of the year. It's time to get that chapter ready to post, start a list of fics to hit, and finish those review replies from last year (oops)... Review Blitz is on the way!

This is our seventh year of running Review Blitz, if you can believe it! If you aren't familiar with the event, feel free to check out last year's thread to get an idea of how it works; the general structure will be quite similar this year.

Whether you're a Blitz veteran or joining in for the first time this year, it's time to start thinking about your plans! Here's the run-down for this year's event:

When is Review Blitz happening this year?

This year's Review Blitz will run from midnight UTC December 21st, 2025 - 11:59 PM UTC January 18th, 2026.

Interested in helping out?

We can't have a blitz without all the awesome people who log reviews, work out the scoring, and provide prizes to all our amazing reviewers. If you're interested in helping out with Blitz this year, please reply to this thread with the following:

- Would you like to offer prizes? What kind? In the past we've had people offer art commissions, custom drabbles, reviews, poetry, and more. If there's anything special you can make or write, it would probably be welcome as a prize; just ask if you're unsure. The more the merrier! Even if you only think you can toss in an extra review here or there, we'd love to have you.

- How many of each kind of prize would you like to offer? A drabble and a sketch commission? Three reviews? However many prizes you can offer, it helps the logistics team figure out prize tiers if we know roughly how many of each we'll have available.

- Would you like to help out with Blitz logistics? Whether you can offer prizes or not, we also need people to help coordinate the event. The logistics team does things like figure out the weekly themes and the point structure of the event, helps test the app, approves reviews, and assigns prizes. These are active positions that run throughout the entire Blitz. We are once again looking to add one or two people to the logistics team for this year's Blitz!

If you're interested in helping out this year, please reply to this thread by December 12th so we can get to work designing the prize tiers. One way or another, I hope you'll join us for another round of Review Blitz!

I'd like to offer three character art commissions! They would be digital drawings with rough lines and flat colors. Some examples under the spoiler:

I couldn't find an example of a flat drawing for a human(/humanoid), but I can do both humans and pokémon (or other animalistic creatures).

I offer (2) art pieces as review rewards.

Specs: maximum (3) characters per piece. Will do backgrounds, shading, coloring, and rendering.

I also offer (1) review.

Specs: I will read the entire fic and review chapter by chapter. Unless your chapters roughly average less than 2000 words, then I will start bundling them. Empty chapters will be evaluated as stand alone if they make sense in context. Timeframe depends on how long your fic is, please give me some grace if you have a 3 million word fic with 300 characters. Review can be submitted on AO3 or through discord. I can try to figure out posting it to TR or PMDFF if requested.

Great wonders! I am more than glad to be part of Blitz helping team. Likewise, below is a list of actions I am willing to do.

What kind of prizes am I willing to offer? How many?

  • One beta-read for a Pokémon story, without restrictions;
  • One collaboration to write a Pokémon fanficton;
  • Two reviews (one for each 5 chapters or 20k words - for instance, if 4 chapters take up more than 20k words, these 4 count as one review), or three reviews (for stories up to 3 chapters and 12k words), or two reviews mixing both;
  • Three to 10 answers to questions about writing, reading, reviewing, and/or miscellaneous - I am willing to answer for multiple participants.

Would I like to help out with logistics?

Yes. In the eventuality of me being accepted, I ask for a briefing on what I should do.

Unfortunately, I've got board exams to study for, so I can't contribute anything. I'm probably just aiming for a custom pixel sprite again, if anyone's willing to offer that.

As long as I get at least a week for writing each of them, I can offer a total of 9 chapter reviews in 1-chapter, 3-chapter, and 5-chapter bundles like last year.

Thanks so much to everyone who's offered prizes or logistics support thus far! We're shaping up to have an awesome prize selection this year for sure. :quag: Just as an FYI, I'll be sending out invites to the Discord prize server (optional! all communication can be done over the forums if you'd prefer not to join the Discord) over the weekend, once this thread closes.

I wouldn't mind trying to help with the logistics team this year!
Awesome! Glad to have you.

I could maybe draw some art (though it would have to be on paper instead of digitally)
Traditional art is totally fine, as long as you're willing to take a nice photo or scan of it so that the recipient can enjoy!

Wow, that's a lot of prizes! Thanks so much for your generosity!

For the logistics team, I would prefer that volunteers be people who've participated in at least one Blitz already, just so they have a good idea of how things work. Thanks for the kind offer, though, and feel free to put your name in next year if you're still interested!

Thanks again to all the volunteers so far! We're always happy to add more prizes, and we're still looking to add one more person to the logistics team, so feel free to sign up if you haven't already. We'd love to have you aboard!

I can once again offer as many art or drabble prizes as needed. I don't know how much I'll be able to do Blitz reviews given I'll be on vacation in Florida but I still wanna contribute somehow

I can contribute some fully rendered art prizes in addition to logistics work, though I'm likely to be a bit slower than in previous years as drawing has become a bit more awkward and I tend to spend less time on it per day on average. Let's say two prizes to be safe.

I can offer one Pokémon crochet prize again, same as last year!
I would like to offer a somewhat unique prize, if the organisers think it'd be a thing people might want...

I can crochet a Pokémon! Any Pokémon of the person's choice, within reason (anything too complex may be turned down, but the majority of Pokémon should be doable for me). I will send photos of the finished creation, as well as potentially the pattern I designed for it if the person wants. Actually physically sending the finished amigurumi will cost me money and therefore isn't something I'd be willing to do, alas, which is why I'm unsure if people would want this for just photos/maybe a pattern, but perhaps...?

I think I'd only be able to offer one of these, since it can take me quite a bit of time and effort to design a thing.
