November Writing Challenges

Welp I crashed and burned on my goal. I did get half the pile knocked out but progress dried up at that benchmark so i still have half a pile left...

On the other hand it gives me an easy writing goal/resolution for 2025 to hit...

I only made it to 25000-ish words of my goal myself... I got to that point, realized that I wasn't enjoying the process as much as I should have been, even when I was writing scenes that I had been super hyped for, and then my brain decided that I was going to merge it with an older, also unfinished story of mine, so... yeah, that one's gonna have to wait another while. I did end up working a bit on my PMD fic early because of it, though, and I did write a couple of scenes that I was really excited for! I might even end up posting the first chapter a little sooner than I'd anticipated! Still, though, not getting as far as I'd wanted does kinda sting. Maybe next time!

I didn't finish The Devil You Know but I'm working on what I hope is the final scene.
Sounds like you ultimately got very close! Congratulations!

Let's check up on those goals from the start of the month:
  • Write at least 30,000 words in any capacity before December 1st
    :checkmark:
  • Rough draft out at least 4 installments of the serialized version of Trueno (read: new content that will not appear in the Zine version) ❌ (Drafted out 3)
  • Publish at least two updates of new material across any combination of stories ❌ (Got out 1 update)
Kinda okay-to-meh for a month, but I can't really complain since my life outside of writing was kinda chaotic for most of November, and I exceeded the goal I cared about most, so good enough.
"Wrote more than 30k" sounds better than "okay-to-meh" to me! Plus an update, dang!

Half is still a lot better than nothing! Good luck with it if you decide to pick it up again as a 2025 resolution.

"Only" 25k or so, huh? :P Good on you for recognizing when you weren't really feeling the direction of the story and deciding to try something different. Glad you got to write some bits that you were excited for, too. Congratulations!

Overall, I think this was a pretty successful NaNo for me. Less material than usual that will directly make it into something I publish, I think, but it's been a long time since I've started on a large project like this, and the prewriting for Salvage was way more than 50k, so this is just part of the process. Did a pretty good job writing consistently instead of doing giant "5k catchups" every weekend, which was nice. And it was a lot of fun to have so many people sprinting along on Discord! This feels like one of our most lively NaNo years thus far; really cool to see everybody making progress.

Does anybody have any follow-up planned for what they wrote in November--editing in November, chugging along on the same project, something else? Review Blitz comes at a sort of awkward time for that, but nevertheless! Personally I'm letting my story rest for a little bit before picking it up again in the new year--got a couple other things I want to finish in December. (Including the next chapter of my gosh-dang fanfic!)
