Don't you lie.

She wasn't going to lie, she just wasn't gonna tell Cynthia everything. Mostly because she didn't know why she did it herself. She did know that she couldn't bring anyone else into it because how the hell would she even do that? "I was just curious, honestly. I found the book in the library and figured it'd be a good read. If anything it would help me talk to everyone else."

In all honesty, it was probably incredibly lucky for Vix that Cynthian was the one to show up. Nobody else looked half as understanding as him. Hell, he even patted her on the back, like a caring friend would. It was kind of charming in a way.

I don't like where this is going...

 

[Adamhuarts]

"Oh, you never struck me as the shy sort. You looked like you didn't have a problem talking with others the first day we got here." Cynthian said, then he giggled as he recalled the events of that day.

"You even offered your candle light to Necrozma back when he was much moodier. I felt bad for you when he turned you down like that too. At least he seems brighter these days... though that's not saying much really. He still has this... distant feeling to him. Not sure how to put it honestly." Cynthian tucked his legs and wrapped his arms over them while he thought.

Oh, you never struck me as the shy sort.

"O-Oh, don't I? I mean, I'm not, it's just..." Vix sighed. "People are a lot harder to talk to here than I thought. Everyone else feels a lot more aggressive than I think they really are, especially Dave." She rolled her eyes. "God, how can anyone stand him? He made me say 'fuck' on the first day here! I didn't even know I was allowed to say that!" Her anger was exaggerated, but still, like, c'mon.

Vix laughed. "Yeah, I felt bad too, honestly. But I'm glad he's brighter now, in a sense. But now I don't have a real reason to get to know him. Sigh."

Did... Did you just-

"I think Bahamut is just a bit more serious than most of us. Which is fine by me, one of my mentors back home act like him so it's nice to have something stay the same. Sort of." Vix reformed completely, sitting herself next to Cynthian and looking out over the ocean. The small waves rolling up the shore, the salt in the air, the cool breeze... it was nice, to say the least.

Almost roma-

Vix decided to ignore her thoughts from then on.

 

[Adamhuarts]

"Our crew sure has mons from very different branches. There are ancient pokemon like Necrozma, humans like Starr, Explorers, adventurers and the list goes on. Sometime, I wonder if I really should be here doing this whole world saving thing. Battles like the one we had against that machine make me scared of what's to come." Cynthian drew a long sigh. A closer look at him would reveal the slight trembling in his rose petals.

 

[Fusion]

"I feel out of place too, if I'm entirely honest. I've basically been training for this, and I have some experience already, but my first time playing the hero... I kinda had to be saved. I say it was me and my friends, but it was mostly my friends." Vix leaned herself against, Cynthian, shortening her flame first. "You aren't the only one scared about what's gonna happen to us."

"But hey, it's just like you said. We're surrounded by people that know what they're doing better than either of us, and I got your back, if that means anything." She smiled. "As a hero in training, it's my job to keep everyone safe, which includes you."

 

[Adamhuarts]

Cynthian's trembling ceased, and in its place was the warmth Vix radiated. Literally or otherwise.

"Thank you, Vix. It means a lot hearing you say that. I feel safer just sitting next to you like this. I'll be sure to watch your back too, no matter what," Cynthian said, holding his flower forward.

 

[Fusion]

Vix gave the plant a sweet smile and shook his flower. "And I feel better knowing you're looking after me too. Here's to us making out of this better than when we got here!"

Cynthian giggled and leaned against her with his eyes closed. He wore a peaceful expression and huffed. "Yeah."

The beach might have been beautiful in the afternoon, but at night? Ho boy, was it gorgeous. Aside from the sand being cold, on top of coarse, rough, and getting everywhere, Vix very much preferred the beach at night. It was the perfect time to relax, unwind-

Think about your new boy-

Repress thoughts that you weren't yet able to face. You know, normal candle things that every candle does. With the ebb and flow of the waves as her soundtrack, Vix allowed herself to take in the calming cold of the night.

The beach was kind of boring, once you got over the initial splendor of the place. Sure, there was all the water and sand and stuff, but that was water and sand and stuff. Tricky liked water, but she didn't want to swim in it. And the sand got all up in her fur and made her itchy. And even floating candles couldn'--

Wait. Were floating candles supposed to be at the beach? Tricky had never been to a beach other than the dinky lake on in Serentiy Village, so she couldn't say no, but....

Well, she was at a beach now. No better time to find out than the present. Tricky took off full speed in the direction of the floating candle.

When she got near it, she tried to stop, but found that the sand was slippery, and there was no way she was going to be able to stop in time she was gonna collide--

 

[Fusion]

Perhaps peaceful bliss could wait, as someone thought it funny to run into Vix at full speed. It was a shame she tried to float, she probably could have shook it off, but instead she and her attacker were sent tumbling towards the water's edge. Cold, wet sand blended with wax, and sandy wax was attached to fur. To call it a mess would be an understatement.

"Nice going, A-" Vix stopped herself, quickly realizing that Ace wasn't here in the first place. But then, who would have tackled her out of the blue like that? It took Vix a moment to detach herself enough to see who it was. A Fennekin, but Vix wasn't entirely sure on what their name was.

Careful, this could get Tricky...

Yeah real helpful. "Are you alright? I get the feeling you didn't mean to do, uh, this?" Vix asked, fully detaching herself from the fennec fox.

 

[SparklingEspeon]

Eww, there was sand in her coat... and whatever the candle was made of. Tricky stood up, trying to brush all the stuff out of her coat.

"Sorry!" she apologized quickly. "The sand was slippery and I couldn't stop and" -- her eyes caught the flame atop Vix's head. "Are you a charmander ghost?"

 

[Fusion]

That was a first, being called a Charmander ghost. Which, isn't too far off from what Ace thought when they first met. Huh.

Odd time for a trip down memory lane?

Yeah. "No, I'm just a Litwick. A candle that floats, sometimes, basically. My name's Vix, and I think it's safe to say it's already interesting meeting you, uh... whatever your name is."

Hopefully it isn't too Tricky for you to remember.

Vix made sure not to show her irritation to the Fennekin, which was hard since her flame flickered angrily for a moment.

Tricky's #2 most wanted dream in the whole entire world since last week had been to meet a charmander ghost. She briefly pouted in disappointment at the realization that she would in fact not be meeting one. Then the litwick asked for her name.

"Oh-- my name's Tricky!"

 

[Fusion]

Pfft, can't say I didn't tell you, ya know?

Vix's mouth faded away for a moment so she didn't scream at herself to shut, the fuck, up. When it reappeared, she gave Tricky a friendly smile. "That's a pretty neat name, easy to remember."

If only it was so easy to pick up on.

Vix's eye twitched, which hopefully went unnoticed. "So, Tricky, what're you up to, if you don't mind me asking?"

 

[SparklingEspeon]

"Oh, I was... taking a walk!" Tricky left out the part about scoping out mystery dungeons at the beach like the one the team that had stopped the Time Crisis had first gone through, as chronicled in their book 'Running Out of Time: Stopping the Time Crisis With My Friends', which Tricky had read back to back more times than she could count. "What about you?"

 

[Fusion]

Vix shrugged. "Just spending some time alone, really. I think I read too much about food. All I can think about are assorted desserts and different kinds of curries."

Aaaaaaand-

-That was locked away without a second thought. "Speaking of food, I hadn't really had anything to eat since, like, noon. I was gonna go ahead and grab some berries or something when I left, but I might as well get something now since I have company. But what to get..?"

Choosing food was always something Vix left for whoever was with her, since she was fine with pretty much anything. It pays to be the furthest thing from picky, except for when you yourself need to pick something. She gave it some thought, but ultimately gave up. "Blast it, whatever. You aren't hungry, are you? We can get whatever you want if you are." Something told her to be more specific, an instinct granted by having a glutton for a best friend. "Within reason, of course."

 

[SparklingEspeon]

By the time the candle finally realized her mistake, it would be far too late to stop what she had set into motion. Tricky was always hungry.

"Ooh- Can we get something to eat? Can we eat it here?"

 

[Fusion]

"Sure, we'll just have to be careful not to get sand in, whatever we get," Vix nodded. Unfortunately, it looked like Vix would have to make the decision herself. Wonderful.

Since you've already been brought back to the good ol' days, why not something you and your friends have had before?

That... didn't not narrow things down. But seeing how many things Vix and her friends shared, it still wouldn't be easy to choose one. Most of it was curry, which would take a while to make...

Something small then? Simple and easy to make? You guys go camping all the time, why not a campy snack thing?

Egad, a good idea for once! And what could be more campy than-

"S'mores? We could do those, and even start a little campfire, too," Vix suggested. What better way to further that homesickness than to indulge in treats you and your friends used to have? Oh well, now wasn't the time for "boo-hoo"ing, it was time for snacks.

"S'mores?" Tricky had never heard of such a word. "What are those? Also can I put the campfire on fire?"
