The Incinerate struck home, scorching Enamorus' front and knocking her back in the air. A moment later Jo-Jo's Aqua Jet got him right up in Enamorus' face, slashing a few long wounds across her torso. The legend didn't seem overly bothered by her injuries. She floated up, out of easy reach, and then unleashed a Springtide Storm that was strong enough to knock a human off their feet and dig furrows in the ground with flying debris.

It was clear that any one person's attack alone couldn't match Enamorus' for sheer power...
Unprepared for the force of the wind, Ichiro tumbled down with an embarrassing whine. Instincts, however - whether from this new body or from his past training as a human - kicked in and uprighted him soon after.

This is Mel. You should all be reading me, as long as Ichiro lets me in. You’ll be able to hear each other, too. Just think LOUD, I’m not strong enough for passing thoughts in this form and I wouldn’t touch those anyway. This is just faster than speech, and won’t be drowned out by wind.

I should be able to catch the wind and reach her. Just need some help making it hurt, my rollout won’t have enough momentum for a huge impact. Ichiro, I can carry some of your fire up to her. Don’t worry about any lingering pain from your noxious Houndoom fire, I won’t feel it and it’ll go away with this body anyway.

She was, indeed, suggesting Ichiro set her on fire as a means of attack.
Ichiro felt a knocking on his mind. Once the initial shock and panic that it was him again passed, he realized that it had to be the only psychic among them, and Ichiro let her in.

At Melody's suggestion, Ichiro quirked a brow. He wanted to ask if this truly was okay, but figured that every second counted in combat and shoved aside his reservations. Understood, he thought back, hoping that it was 'loud' enough to be heard - but his resolute gaze surely would communicate whatever was necessary. He leapt up to Melody, charged up another blast of fire and let the flames coat the tumbleweed.

Joey held his ground on all fours. Dang, that was a strong wind. He was pretty sure he got covered in glitter. Ew. But there were more pressing concerns.

Dang, you're full of surprises. 'Kay, we gotchu. Just need a chance to get in there. Wind's too strong. Holy geez, is my head this loud? He shook his head. He had to get serious! Once Melody was able to create an opening, he would leap in again with his Aqua Jet and follow it up with a windup of his arm and a Brick Break, punching Enamorus' face hard.

the salazzle in particular was fuming, noxious smoke spilling from her jaws. Yes, quite unnatural, quite unusual. What we had planned to do was ask Meloetta for help, but when we visited their garden, the people there said they didn't know what had happened to them, either!
Nori frowns deeply and lowers his head. "They said they left after failing to stop a big fight. I wish they could've been more specific," he laments. Maybe, hopefully, they just walked away to take a breather. It was possible that Meloetta themself wasn't corrupted. But then, why sit back and watch as their realm falls under its influence? There was more to this story, and this Ice Flute sounded as good a way to find answers as any.

Enough. The ceruledge's voice was sharp and commanding, but he continued to rub his blades over one another in what seemed to be a nervous motion. I will take the outsiders to see my son, if--his eyes narrowed--they promise not to hurt him.
"Why would we?" Nori asks with a mix of honesty and innocence, tilting his head and placing a hand on his cheek. He is genuinely confused. Who could ever hurt someone trying to save a colony, especially a kid? Besides the ones trying to ensure its destruction. Nevertheless, he nods and agrees without any hesitation. "Don't worry. We promise."

---

The Demon snorts. "Yes. And if anyone tries to hurt him, I'll save a piece of whoever it is for you," she growls, barely veiling her disgust for the very notion of someone harming a child, and adding a vow of protection to go with it.

Hey, Alomomola! Please, can you help heal our friend Kricketot? He's back on the shore, we can show you where. [/I]
Rachel glanced at the returning Wishiwashi, Luni and their new guest. Closing her eyes to concentrate and think, she spoke. 'Sorry to bother you. But we'll really appreciate if you could help us. Like the kid said, a companion of ours got hurt and we need your healing if you may.'

'Also if you don't mind some questions,' Rachel added. 'Can we ask you if you know the whole deal with the music? Why it's so weird... and if you know where it might come from? We're looking for Meloetta who's apparently gone missing and might be corrupted by crystals.'
The swam determinedly past Tomomichi, Rachel, and Luni, the wishiwashi eddying in her wake. Yes, yes, I receive many of these requests, she said brusquely. Where is the patient?

With Rachel's direction, the alomomola popped her head above the water and fired a Heal Pulse at Kricketot, enveloping the bug in healing energy. He perked up immediately, the scuffs on his carapace receding considerably.

Alomomola dived back down, already busily on her way somewhere else. And there you are. The music? I don't know anything about it. I've never heard it before.

When Ichiro first breathed fire onto Melody, the enamorus laughed--perhaps she assumed it had been some sort of accident, allies clumsily getting in each other's ways, but when Melody charged forward with a Rollout, Enamorus' eyes widened. She brought her arms up to block the blow, but a large, flaming bundle of ghost sticks, empowered by the strength of the wind, was difficult to stop. Even as she managed to soften the blow somewhat, the thorns and flames left her badly cut and burned...

...and certainly vulnerable to further attack. Enamorus had hardly shaken off the last of the flaming twigs that had stuck to her chest before Jo-Jo slammed into her with an Aqua Jet, leaving another big cut across the front of her. She managed to twist aside from the worst of the Brick Break, but Jo-Jo's paw carried on to strike the crystal behind her. It cracked audibly, and Enamorus let out a hiss of pain, her form seeming to flicker for a moment.

Outsiders? You're going to let outsiders deal with this? The salazzle was actually spitting fire now. This is a matter for our own kind to solve!

The ceruledge considered the strangers for long seconds, ignoring the scuffle occurring between the salazzle and the other members of the village, who were trying to prevent her from pouncing on him. Finally he nodded. Very well. Follow me, then.

He led the group away, towards one of the nearby homes built into the side of the canyon--and then straight out the other side, into a small garden pressed up against the side of the hill. There were more succulents arranged in tasteful clusters here, as well as a small charcadet huddled on a decorative rock. Muffled music was playing from somewhere, an airy, jaunty tune.

Son. These people want to talk to you about the Ice Flute, Ceruledge said, stopping a few feet away from the charcadet.

The charcadet crossed his arms and turned aside, his flames flickering erratically. I--I don't want to talk! Go away!

Joey widened his eyes at the effect that his attack caused. Was what he was seeing real? He wasn't even aiming at that crystal, he was gonna punch the idiot in the face! Still...

Yo, you guys saw that, right? Am I going nuts? I smashed this crystal thingy and she started ghosting! Gonna need a better look, so keep her busy!

Inari was the one that narrowed his eyes at the Salazzle after having followed the group at a bit of a distance.

"You've been doing a great job at it" the Vulpix couldn't help but quip, tails scraping the ground and brushing over crystal chunks.

Raiki stood a bit to the side, blinking once at hearing his Pokémon's voice. For the first time he had actually understood him. Before, the Vulpix had spoken only with other Pokémon in their shared language, which made the man think he had done it intentionally to not be understood.
But this time, he had used the same language that allowed Raiki to understand the other Pokémon.
Had it been... intentional? It must have. Inari had wanted everyone to hear him.
Which included him.

And he should have kept a stoic expression; he was the responsible adult of the tw- ahahah.
Who was he kidding?

He broke out in a short guffaw, trying to dissimulate it as a cough. No need to make enemies out of the locals.

« Yes, we would appreciate it.» he said directed to the Ceruledge.

They followed the ghost type, until it led them to a small Charcadet who was busy playing.

The kid's reaction, however, left him quite puzzled.
Mmm. Was he embarrassed of playing in front of people? Scared? Or was there some other reason?

« We just want to ask ya about that Flute... what are you playing on it? » he asked, trying to keep a casual tone.
He had... tried to learn to play an instrument,a long time ago. Not a flute, however, so he didn't know anything about those.

« Why is it called the Ice Flute if it's supposed to summon Meloetta anyway?»

He tried to give a glance towards Nori. Maybe speaking with someone that wasn't an adult would be more approachable?

Nori quietly follows along into the garden. Another one. Maybe gardens were like, Meloetta's thing. At least in this world. Still, there's little time to think about the sights, because the one they've met is right here. He gasps softly. There could be any number of reasons the Charcadet could be acting this way.

He notices Raiki looking at him. Yeah, a young person might listen to someone closer to their age. How did Pokemon ages work, anyway? He takes a couple of slow and steady steps forward.

"Is... is something wrong?" he gently asks, though his voice quavers a little. Did this Charcadet want to do it alone, was he afraid, or maybe it was frustration? His lips pinch together. "It's a really nice song you were playing. We heard you're trying to summon Meloetta with it. And..." He pauses to catch his breath. His throat feels tight all of a sudden. He's worried about the flutist. "And that you're trying to help everyone. Is there... any way we could help you?"

The boy clutches at himself and looks down. He was really unsure what to say; he just spoke from the heart as he usually did in these situations.

Mel kept the flame alive inside the core of the Brambleghast, even if any flames that strew too far from his branches were quickly snuffed by the wind. A rollout swiftly delivered the flame to Enamorus.

Enamorus let out a hiss of pain, her form seeming to flicker for a moment.

For a moment it seemed like it was their attacks on Ena that were making a difference, but no. The guy was right.

Makes perfect sense. She’s not real. I can stall for time, sure, go have fun with that.

“Got you, faker! Lil’ tip from one trickster to another, kid: Try not just playing to every mortal’s idea of what someone immortal would say next time.”

A shame that this body didn’t have the capacity to smirk. They had no idea if this Ena, or whoever was playing her, could be taunted but they certainly intended to try. She fired a strength sap, draining energy to repair their burnt branches. Given that they hoped to provoke retaliation, it was important to make sure the body would survive it.

“A better character wouldn’t have stopped us figuring it out, but I still expect some respect for the craft. I mean, really, the one hundred day cloudwatching thing? Don’t make me cringe.”

Rachel let out a sigh, a sound of relief but with a tiny bit of frustration. Atleast Kricketot was okay, now. But still no answers about the music.

Sure they could go back in and ask the Tentacool or Magikarp but it was likely going to end up the same.

She walked upto the sand, the mental link between the three of them breaking apart as she watched Luni take in a deep breath.

"Alright, team. Huddle up," she said, eyes momentarily glancing at the Ting-Lu sitting in a ring of flowers. "So far, we got zero clues about stuff other than that broken up ancient place. There's also an ancient pyramid thingy that's too far for us to reach by just swimming."

She crossed her arms. "So any ideas on how we can reach there? Luni can teleport us there but we'll be running on a timer and Luni doesn't have the strength capable of constantly teleporting us back and forth without breaks."

What flute? the charcadet asked. I don't know what you're talking about. Indeed, the charcadet was not playing any instrument, nor was there one apparent nearby.

The ceruledge behind them sighed heavily. They already know about the flute, son. Please tell them what happened.

Charcadet crossed his arms and turned away from the group. I--I don't want to!

The Ice Flute is made of a clear crystal that glistens like ice, Ceruledge said quietly. I do not know why Meloetta prefers it, but it was given to us as a way of letting them know that we need help.

"Is... is something wrong?" he gently asks, though his voice quavers a little. Did this Charcadet want to do it alone, was he afraid, or maybe it was frustration? His lips pinch together. Charcadet shuddered as though Nori's words pained him somehow. You can help me by going away! There's nothing I can do! I told everybody, I don't have the flute anymore!

Charcadet is a talented flute player, Ceruledge said. He was going to lead us in a song to summon Meloetta. But first he told us he had lost the flute, and now we seem to hear it playing. He won't tell us what's going on. And now, for the first time, the ceruledge's calm gaze turned severe.

Meanwhile, the music went on. The song did not seem to be coming from Charcadet; perhaps from somewhere behind him? Or lower down? The tune was muffled and quiet.

I saw it too, said Ichiro. You take a closer look. We'll distract her.

Melody had already gotten to work, taunting the legend. Ichiro thought a bit on how he should do his own part before sighing inaudibly and tapping into his old self for sufficient prickness.

"Yeah!" he barked out, etching a contemptuous smirk across his snout. "And really? Enamorus? Had to go for one of the bargain bin legends? What's the matter, couldn't get the wheel on Arceus to look right? Pathetic."
