Enamorus tilted her head, laying one long-clawed hand against her cheek. Oh, so many of you! What cute little mortals. Her yellow eyes flicked between Ichiro and Jo-Jo; she could surely tell that they were readying attacks. What's this, then? You come into my home spoiling for a fight? She showed pointed teeth in a broad grin. That's perfectly fine with me! Fairy winds whipped around her body, nearly drowning out the sound of the melodica nearby.
"Cute!?" Joey blushed in shock at that word. He couldn't be cute! He was a Floatzel! Buizel were the cute ones—but that would have meant that he had to call his younger self cute—he shook his head. He also relaxed his posture and stopped spinning his tails while he was at it. "Look, lady, you better not give us a good reason for throwing hands. 'Cuz, bein' real here, gettin' smoked with sparkles would be the worst."
"Enamorus! I should have figured, what with the command over wind and the fairy energy. Listen, we were warned that the poison here can corrupt the minds of otherwise sensible people. Please, do not mistake out caution for aggression— We're not seeking a fight if you aren't."
"Guessin' you ain't Meloetta, then?" It was nice to have an expert in unknown Pokémon. He would have definitely called this pink lady the one they were looking for if it weren't for Mel. "Where they at, then?"

"I just thought it'd be a good idea to have some backup, that's all." She deflected with a neutral stare, trying not to look like his words had affected her. She had a reputation to keep after all.

Her hand moved to pat her hip, checking that–Yup, her holster was still gone. "I don't even have my weapon with me so of course, having another abled body to look out for me was the best logical
solution."
Tomomichi stared into the distance for several seconds, absorbing the information. The calls of the wingulls and krabbys intensified. Then he said, "I'm backup! Nice! Para's usually my backup, you know? And we're both Potdeer's backup I guess. It's funny you say able bodied because I'm just a squishy human and Para is, but Potdeer, see Potdeer is really good- well, we got your back regardless."

He pet his shoulder, where Para would be normally. Maybe that's why he slipped into 'we' instead of 'I'.

Rachel replied, not turning her attention away from the relaxed Pokémon just in case... "Unlikely. Probably some weird Pokémon or machinery. Likely unnatural too. See how they're relaxing despite the sorrowful music?" She paused, her eyes looking around to observe her situation. "I don't know about you but I find it hard that people would be relaxing and acting like this was a beach episode with that background noise. Sounds more fitting for a graveyard or a funeral."
"A funeral or graveyard... Oh gosh, is this some kind of Ecruteak City but for pokemon?"

He looked at the ocean. Well, if the music was coming from underneath the water, maybe he should dive into the water to find out. Perhaps it was a harmonica.

"Maybe we need to try swimming..."
The markings on the tablet looked as though they were pictograms of some sort. A number of ancient languages used similar writing systems, although what a particular symbol meant wouldn't necessarily be discernible without a familiarity with the specific language. Still, these wavy lines--perhaps referring to water of some sort? And this branching shape; perhaps that was something like "king" or "ruler?"
Potdeer announced, "THESE TABLETS ALL SCATTERED ABOUT MAKE REFERENCES TO 'WATER' AND 'RULER'. IF THIS IS NOT MELOETTA'S BEACH, PERHAPS IT IS WATER-RULER'S."

My moves don't work. Nobody's do. Not since Meloetta left, Kricketot said. Watch. If I try to use Struggle Bug...

He raised his hands, and a second later they glowed with brilliant green energy. Kricketot jumped. O-oh? It's working now? But before I couldn't--

Then Potdeer's Payback hit home, sending Kricketot flying.
"BASED ON THESE OBSERVATIONS, WE CAN DRAW SOME CONCLUSIONS:
1. MELOETTA HATES CONFLICT AND DOES NOT ALLOW FOR SWEARING OR BATTLE MOVES IN THEIR GARDEN.
2. THIS BEACH HAS NO RESTRICTION ON BATTLE MOVES.
3. THEREFORE, THIS IS NOT MELOETTA'S GARDEN.
4. DOES WATER-RULER ALSO HATE SWEARING? THIS WINGULL SHIT STINKS TO FUCKING HELL!"

"Kricketot!!!" Tomomichi shouted in dismay, running over to check if the small bug was ok.

The girl blinked, her mouth hanging open before she clamped down on her teeth, anger rising as she watched the bug crash onto the ground. "What the hell was that for?" she shouted as she rushed over to pick the Kricketot up.

"Potdeer!" She stomped over to the Ting-Lu, eyes glowing, teeth gritted in rage. "Explain yourself! Why the hell did you decide fighting someone who can't even fight back is a good idea! He could've been hurt or worse! What's wrong with you?"
"KRICKETOT, WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?" asked Potdeer, immediately passing the buck to the kricketot it had just paybacked. "WHY'D WE JUST DO THAT?? WHAT DID YOU THINK WAS GOING TO HAPPEN?"

"Kricketot!!!" Tomomichi shouted in dismay, running over to check if the small bug was ok.

"KRICKETOT, WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?" asked Potdeer, immediately passing the buck to the kricketot it had just paybacked. "WHY'D WE JUST DO THAT?? WHAT DID YOU THINK WAS GOING TO HAPPEN?"
Kricketot was lying where he'd landed in the sand. He hadn't been joking about being weak; the Payback had obviously taken a lot out of him, leaving dark scuffs on his carapace.

I'll... I'll be okay, he said weakly, although he made no apparent effort to sit up. When Potdeer started asking questions, he could only rattle his antennae weakly. What... What are you talking about? You just attacked me out of nowhere!

Unaware of the chaos that was happening in her group, she answered with the same cheer, "Nope! That's why we're asking! My friends and I heard that Meloetta was corrupted by a bunch of evil crystals and we came to look for and help her. Have you guys seen anything suspicious going around here? Evil crystals? Evil Pokémon? Oh, how about that weird music? Was that always here?"
Luni's question led to another round of clamoring from the wingull. Evil crystals? Evil pokémon? What are you talking about?

Meloetta corrupted? What does that even mean?!

Evil pokémon! Evil pokémon! We're all gonna die!

One of the wingull seemed a bit more thoughtful than the others. I haven't seen anything suspicious recently no. But that music, well, it only just started up earlier today. I suppose it is rather strange.

What do you think? Maybe it's a primarina having a concert?

"Enamorus! I should have figured, what with the command over wind and the fairy energy. Listen, we were warned that the poison here can corrupt the minds of otherwise sensible people. Please, do not mistake out caution for aggression— We're not seeking a fight if you aren't."
It seemed like defusing the situation wasn't going to work, but Ichiro agreed that it was still worth a try. He snuffed out the flame in his throat and spoke. "Listen to her. A man with a dagger on his hip isn't always willing to fight."
Oh? Enamorus' yellow eyes glittered. Well, forgive me for presuming. I'm not accustomed to people creeping up on me with weapons half drawn, if you will, if they have friendly intentions. You are, of course, perfectly welcome to leave.

Something seemed strange about Enamorus. Melody would be able to feel nothing from her, as though she were somehow a being without a mind.

"Guessin' you ain't Meloetta, then?" It was nice to have an expert in unknown Pokémon. He would have definitely called this pink lady the one they were looking for if it weren't for Mel. "Where they at, then?"
Enamorus' smile widened. No, child. You may call me Enamorus. As for Meloetta... Well, they've gone away. I don't think you should expect to see them around here again. Tragic, isn't it? Mortals are always such disappointments. She shook her head regretfully.

As the groups drew closer to the foothills, they could soon recognize, high up on the rocky walls stretching overhead, paths, ladders, terraces and even windows of dwellings built into the hillsides. Here and there pokémon could be seen moving about on their own personal errands, oblivious to the approaching outsiders--though they probably wouldn't remain that way for long. The crystals grew dense around the village, sprouting from the sides of buildings and even jutting up out of thoroughfares, so that passing pokémon were forced to go out of their way to avoid them.

They eventually reach the city. Nori slowly looks up at it. It was way worse over here. "I think we found the source," he notes. "Or a big target of whoever or whatever caused this. Get ready for any kind of welcome." Hopefully they could fight here if they had to.

The Demon scrapes a paw. "What's with this place? Do they think they're manh or something?" she dismisses the city. Burrows and caves were enough shelter for everything she knew, and the wilderness was their home. No matter. They'd find out soon enough exactly what they were dealing with.

That’s hardly efficient,” he said, watching the residents of this new town try and struggle to go about their days with crystalized miasma in their way. As much as he wanted to say he didn’t know their frustration, at least on a metaphorical level, he’d be lying if he did.

To his surprise and quiet relief, his traveling companion was none other than his fellow suit enthusiast and his prickly vulpix friend.

“Why don’t we try our luck with the locals?” he suggested, gesturing before him. “Perhaps if they’re not as skittish, they’ll have some insight.”
As they approached the rocky foothills, he could see many Pokémon moving around the burrows and improvised homes they seemed to have carved into the hillside.
Something in the scenery, however, left Raiki quite puzzled.
« It must have taken some time to build all this... so can they really be the owners of the footprints we saw before? » he wondered outloud to both his companions and their respective Pokémon.
But the fact that they hadn't done anything about the ominous and possibly toxic crystals growing everywhere also seemed to point towards them not having been long... the ones that passed through Meloetta's garden.
Well, no better way to find out than ask directly. He calmly approached the nearest group of Pokémon, clearing his throat.

« Excuse me. How long have you been living here? Have you just recently moved here, perhaps?»
He asked.

Inari observed the Pokémon in silence, flicking his ears in discomfort at the Pokémon. Yeah, he was of the same opinion as Demon, here.
But on the other hand, there didn't seem to be any humans in this realm... which was something he quite liked.
He turned towards both Demon and Bellamy, studying them in silence for a short moment.

« ... what's so great about a human trainer, anyway? What do you gain by staying with them?» he mumbles, pointing with one tail each towards Nori and Corbeau.

Ichiro let out a breath. Well, I'm glad we don't have to fight, but coming all this way and then leaving doesn't feel productive...

"What exactly happened?" Ichiro asked. "What made Meloetta leave?"

Tomomichi looked around for something to use. "I need a potion," he said, but he hadn't brought his bag with him, nor modern conveniences. He looked around to see if there were any bushes growing oran or sitrus berries.

Hesitantly, he addressed the wild beach pokemon, "Do any of you, um, know any healing moves?"

Potdeer, meanwhile, stretched dramatically. "EARLIER, KRICKETOT, YOU ASKED FOR ONE OF US TO ATTACK YOU. YOU EVEN SEEMED DISAPPOINTED WHEN IT DID NOT OCCUR. WHY DID YOU DO THAT?"

"I'm not a kid," Joey grumbled under his breath, annoyed. "Hey, we didn't come here all this way just to not see Meloetta. We're here because someone said 'Help me', and we ain't leavin' 'till it's done!" He cleared his throat. He had to control his volume. Times like this always riled him up.
