“Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine. No fun.”

Coco stomped off to find someone better to play with.

Saltriv silently walked away from the plaza, continuing to clutch onto the pale, white rose with a vine.

A single tear splashed onto the ground.

[Negrek]

Rocky wandered the marketplace, now and again pausing to peer anxiously at one of the stalls. He knew what he wanted to buy, and there were plenty of places to get it, but... he had to do this right! It was important.

He caught sight of another shadowy form through the shifting crowd. Glowing eyes, jutting spikes--oh, that was Cynthian's familiar, wasn't it? She had to know, right? Cynthian knew a lot about flowers--she even grew them on herself. But since Cynthian wasn't here right now, well... Rocky put on his biggest smile and went to say hello. "Hi, I'm Rocky!" he said. "You're Cynthian's familiar, right? Have you got a minute?"

 

[Adamhuarts]

"Huh? Oh, hi!" Ivy said with a cheerful smile and a bread bun in her flowers. She took a bite from it, chewed a few times, then swallowed. Then she opened her mouth to speak, but instead took another bite of her bread bun.

"Nish to mheet yhou, Rohki," Ivy said in between chews. After swallowing, she said, "Yes, I'm Cynthian's familiar. My name is Ivy!"

 

[Negrek]

"Oooh, Ivy. That's a pretty name!" And it was a plant name, too. She'd definitely be able to help. "Umm, I was looking for some flowers. To give to the people who got hurt in the last battle. Or people who are sad. But there's so many of them!" He gestured at a couple of nearby florist shops, their windows crammed with flowers and bouquets. "I don't know what ones to pick. Do you know much about flowers?"

 

[Adamhuarts]

"Uuuuuh, maybe!" Ivy said, pursing her lips in thought.

"Cynthian used to talk to Ivy all about flowers, and she also thinks about flowers a lot!" Whenever Cynthian wasn't thinking about how everyone thought of her, or about Icetales, or someone else, it was always, always about plants and flowers.

Ivy recalled the time Cynthian stopped by the side of the path identifying every single flowering shrub and grass and Ivy had to memorize each and every one. Of course, Ivy had already forgotten most of them by now, but learning all those weird taxinomic names had been fun.

"I can help... maybe."

 

[Negrek]

Well, that didn't sound too confident, but that was okay. There were two of them to figure this out, after all. They could do a great job together! And if Ivy thought about flowers a lot, there was no way they could mess this up! "Okay, great!" Rocky said. "First I wanted to get some flowers for Arceus. Something that says, 'Sorry you nearly died! Get better soon, and I think you're really nice.' What kind of flowers do you think would be good for that?"

 

[Adamhuarts]

"Uuuum..." Ivy brought a flower to her chin to think.

"How about Daisies? I can't remember what they mean, but they look like sunny side up eggs." Ivy stared into blank space and began to drool. "Eggs..."

 

[Negrek]

"Oh, daisies!" Rocky's flames leapt and sparked. "I know those! That's good. I didn't know whether the flowers Mudkip knows are the same as the ones in worlds like this. I didn't know if there would only be, umm, berry flowers, or something like that. But yes, daisies are good. And Arceus even just had an egg, so they can be like a 'congratulations on having a baby' present, too! I'll get some daisies, then."

Rocky's face screwed up in thought. "So, next is Diyem. I think he probably doesn't like flowers, but I can't just get something for everybody else and not him. So... are there scary flowers? Or flowers for people who hate flowers? Or, umm, just hate nice things in general?"

 

[Adamhuarts]

"Let's see..." Ivy ignited her 50000iq brain engine, sending ripples across her head and up her cranial spikes.

"What does that one mean?" Ivy asked, pointing at a cluster of yellow flowers. "They're pretty. Can Ivy take some?"

"Hmm? Oh, those Yellow carnations?" Cynthian chuckled nervously and walked up to Ivy to pluck one out. "They're something you'd send if you want to show someone you're really disappointed in them, or just don't approve of them in general. You should never give this to someone you like, or likes you."

"Ah, Diyem doesn't like us, or nice feelings, so let's give him yellow carnations!" Ivy said, giving Rocky a thumbs up (wait what?) while a resounding ding ding! playing in her head.

 

[Negrek]

Rocky leaned forward eagerly while the smaller familiar considered. She was obviously thinking really hard, so whatever she came up with was bound to be great! But when Ivy announced her answer, Rocky was silent for a moment. "What's... What's a 'carnation?'" he asked.

 

[Adamhuarts]

"Carnations are flowers!" Ivy said, waving hers in front of his face.

"The ones Cynthian showed me were yellow and look a bit like tiny sunflowers!" Ivy placed her flowers on her hips and grinned. "Did you know? They even come in different colors. There's red ones, pink ones, white ones... don't try eating them though. They taste evil."

 

[Negrek]

"Oh, I do know sunflowers! They would look great in other colors." If he was going to get some just for himself, Rocky would get all the different colors, naturally. "But if the yellow ones are special, those are the ones we can get. And I won't try to eat any!" It was great that there were flowers for people who hated everything!

The next part was tricky. Cynthian was dead because Joule roasted her, so Rocky didn't know if Ivy would want to do anything nice for him at all. "But sunflowers, actually, I was thinking those might be good for Joule. Because he likes light and they're like little suns, right? Uh, do you think that's a good idea?" Rocky tried a smile. "And they're pretty good to eat, too. At least the seeds!"

 

[Adamhuarts]

Ivy hissed under her breath at the mere mention of Joule's name. If Dark Matter was the one who took Cynthian's mother and left her alone, then Joule did the same to Ivy.

"I don't know. I don't want to give anything to Joule till he apologizes," Ivy said, lifting her nose (does she even have one?) the other way and folding her arms.

 

[Negrek]

"Oh..." Rocky said. "Yes, he should apologize. Umm, but, that's okay!" He could do that one himself. Sunflowers were definitely a good idea. "What's your favorite flower, Ivy? Do you know Cynthian's?"

 

[Adamhuarts]

"I like Ivy flowers. Cynthian showed me pictures of them before," Ivy said, a hint of longing in her voice.

"I don't know what Cynthian's favorite flower is. She likes too many."

 

[Negrek]

"Oh! Let's get some ivy flowers, then. You deserve something for helping out," Rocky said. "And we should make a bouquet for Cynthian, too. We can pick out all kinds of flowers if she likes a lot, then. And then when she gets back, she'll have some nice flowers in her room to welcome her home. How does that sound?"

 

[Adamhuarts]

"Oh... Ah, yeah!" Ivy's eyes lit up like light bulbs. "That's a very good idea! Cynthian will love all the flowers. She really loves flowers!"

 

[Negrek]

"Okay, come on!" Rocky said, bounding towards the nearest flower shop. "There should be lots to choose from in here! And we can get the other flowers we were thinking of, too. And you're going to have to help me deliver them," he said with a wink. "I won't be able to carry all of them by myself!"
