This thread is for discussions of the tabletop roleplaying game Dungeons and Dragons, or D&D for short! In here, you can discuss any D&D related topics, with examples such as: characters you'd like to play, tips for beginner DM's, whether the changes made in the 2024 revamp of the Player's Handbook were for the better or worse, and much more!

(Discussions of the Baldur's Gate video games are allowed in here for now, though we might shift it to a different thread depending on what other members think)

I do like me some D&D, though it has been a quite a while since I was last involved in a campaign – scheduling conflicts ended up killing the last few campaigns I participated in (a professional hazard of tabletop RPGs in general, I hear – let alone when the group of players is scattered across several countries and time zones) but I've amassed a small collection of characters that I am very fond of in the process and would certainly like to revisit someday, somehow.

So far the campaigns I've been involved in are Curse of Strahd (the oldest and longest-running campaign I've been involved in, and the only one to actually reach completion), Legendary Planet, Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden, and the Tyranny of Dragons series (With Dragons of Stormwreck Isle as an introduction of sorts – we completed the introduction but scheduling conflicts struck again shortly once we started the proper campaign). I have yet to try DMing, though I would like to sometime (when I can harness enough energy and focus to actually learn how to), and the original fantasy setting that I've had on the back burner for ages now is currently being developed in a way that would be at least compatible with 5E somehow. At least, original 5E. I have very little interest in 5E 2024. >>;

I could ramble about my characters more, but we'd probably be here for ages if I did, so I'll let someone else talk for now. xD

I've dipped in and out od the paper version of dnd for ages (presently out at the moment) though my old crew used to play the o.g. versions (before strangrr things got popular second and third edition materials were stupid cheap).

We'd get base rules books, partial moduals, and homebrew everything that was missing since there were gaps in the local supply chains were pretty drastic. We did AU ravenloft(war of azlin timeline, we had 2 dms, one reping strahd, the other azlin, and thier goal was to use us against the other d.m. and ours was to survive) star wars(crowning achivment, i randomized the gavity inside the deathstar and got it to spin like a hamster ball. Nearly offed vader from impact damage, fun times), forgotten realms(during a seige... well there was an incident with a dragon big bad, a tribunch, and some epic rolls that wound up offing the poor thing in less than ten rounds with no casualties, the poor dm had to stop the session to regroup) and one very wacky smash bros sci fi hodgepodge.

I prefer playing to dming since math really isnt my thing (damn you thac0), and the last edition i played was some fifth... but the daunting fact of "needs money for whole new sets" plus the fact lives were changing (the local scene was mainly a tightknit crew of nightshit persons from across many franchises throughout town) and the band broke down.

I'm not in touch with the local scene at the moment, and per tech limits not participating in the oline. But i still have my (really) old sourcebooks. They make good writing exrcise bait. And old notes from my running mini adventures day to give our dm a break.

In closing

Fav class: rouge, (anything not naiked down was fair game)
2nd bard
3rd druid

Race: i've played everything from human, halfling, centar, to orc. No one expects an orc thief.

Alignment: ran the gauntket of chaotic good to neutral evil though really leaning on the chaotic side of things

Fav magical item: portable hole and crawling rope. (I once tied the hole to the end and had the rope crawl across a dragons hord to skim off the top. Made a point of rubbing the thing in an enemies clothes. Easiest heist/political assasination ever.)

I've never played before, but I have several friends who do and I'd like to be able to hang out with them! A place near me is doing one-night-only campaigns. The commitment of a really long game is one of the things that makes me wary about the whole thing, so I would be willing to try something like that. I've made a character sheet with two friends now, but I've never used them.
