I've seen your rattata trainerfic
You haven't, actually! That's Making it Big by An Author's Pen/A Pen. She's also got a few PMd oneshots you'd probably like. (I recommend either Starfall or Tessellation Solution.)

That said,
I teared up a couple times over the course of it.
Glad it sounds like you enjoyed this fic! :D

I've been meaning to check out your fics too though. I've been preoccupied with library books lately, but I'm sure I'll loop back around eventually.

It's like a first person-narrated national geographic documentary at points lol.
I'm sure Alphonse would be flattered.

I definitely mourn for all those grieving the loss of her body because her pet rock stole it lol.
Yeah, a good reminder that the right answer to "what's the best outcome?" depends who's asking. The presence of Melissa and the funeral home suggest that Roxanne's wishes would've been aligned with her family's ... but she's dead and Alphonse isn't, so she probably won't mind too much. I hope her living family finds a way to laugh at the situation in a few years. 🥲

I appreciate how grounded the setting is, too.
Eyyyo

hope Melissa overcomes the inevitable trauma of this experience lol.
Let's assume her employer provides insurance that covers good therapy!

Cheers!

innocent enough, and alien enough,
Aptly put!

I half expected alphonse to be put down in the end.
That could've been possible if he'd been caught. But I definitely preferred the ending where her death could take on new meaning. :)

Thanks for reading!

this is one to celebrate.
Thanks a bunch!

I see that it was inspired by another writing but it definitely feels whole on its own
Only as a starting point! The story I linked is about a girl who keeps a literal rock in her pocket and has some feelings about it (I guess). I thought it would be more fun if the rock in her pocket was a rock-type in a pokeball. Or, in this case, very much out of his ball.

Kind of makes me wonder what a Nosepass born from Roxanne's remains would eventually look like, if it would retain any parts of her personality.
I think part of what Alphonse has had to accept, in his way, is that Roxanne's personality is gone except in his memories and in sentimental objects he associates with her (you know, like bones), so I don't think her personality would carry over to the new nosepass. However, I do think Alphonse has learned things from spending so much of his life with her, and I do think those lessons would carry on while he's alive to teach them. But that's a story for a different fic. :)

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts.

this was a really nice read.
i certainly did not cry (actually i cried a lot)
it handles grief in a really relatable way, even for someone who thinks so different, because of course probopass would think differently.

i think the only thing that impacted my enjoyment of it for a bit was just that it took a while to recognize it was from probopass POV at the start, but it got going really well after. this may have been by intent, especially with the reveal of our deceased. it really hit hard once these things became apparent though. really enjoyed all the same. thank you

Oh god. Oh my god. I just. Ahhh. This was such a beautiful beautiful story and you’ve written it so well. I understand what’s going on, but for a good long while Alphonse doesn’t, and you did a wonderful job putting us in his place. There is a routine to be followed and one day it’s not, and of course Alphonse would only truly understand what’s going on when everything in Roxanne’s body slows down to a point where even he understands she can’t recover from. I love love love how you explained that he can sense electricity with the things around her house and translated to her body; Roxanne’s been dead since the story began, but it takes the body awhile to slowly shut everything down and completely stop. I know it’s already been a day since she passed and everything is still and quiet, but wow, he wasn’t in the place or position to fully get that, not until they’re alone again, not until he gets her away from the humans being so weird. Alphonse understood it at his own pace but he still stays at the end. And the ending? THE ENDING IS SO GOOD.

Devasting for Roxanne’s family, but the idea that this Probopass, Alphonse, was so loyal he stayed by her side until she detoriated? Could only convince himself that was a good idea when he thought about holding a part of her forever? And the line from earlier about the Camperupt at Stark Mountain? His satellites are only ever truly gone when they’re melted, absolutely destroyed. Even if he loses these satellites- he won’t but even if he does- part of her will live on in new Nosepass. This was such a fantastic read I’m happy I found it!
