Introduction :

Hi there. Nothing to see here. Absolutely nothing. Pure fanfiction, nothing else.

Okay, fine. This is a Let's Play. BUT...I'll spice it up. With characters based off the theme of the run. I'm thinking KeeganJ style or something (in short, the normal character dialogues are hilariously replaced with lines based off of the characters. It's got all sorts of stuff and I can't exactly explain). It'll run sort of like a fusion, and there'll technically be both be me and the "main" character acting as mcs. The character is meant to be also funny, while I'll...just narrate my thought processes. Mostly neutral, sometimes super happy, sad, or frustrated. Essentially, character=funny, me=emotionally invested omniscient narrator. This is exciting. Sad. Frustrating. Triumphant. Stressful. Fun. Joyful. Crushing. This...is Pokerogue.

Rules of Pokerogue :

For those of you who don't know what in the world I'm talking about, this section is for you. I would recommend you play Pokerogue yourself, a little thoroughly so you'll actually understand what's going on, especially since I'm not going to be able to explain everything to you. It's all browser based so everyone can play. There's a wiki you can check out too.

Pokerogue is a roguelite. This type of game is one in which you're not exactly meant to win on the first try. In fact, losing makes you literally stronger for future runs. It's permadeath, and loads of fun!!! Let's explain the mechanics of pokerogue. When you start a run, you pick from starters, pokemon you've caught or hatched in previous runs (all stats except level and those growth type stuff carry over). There's things called starter costs, which are higher for rarer pokemon. You may have only choose pokemon whose collective cost amounts to 10 or lower.

Eggs hatch new pokemon but can't be used in current runs, they're gotten from the gatcha using vouchers that you get after beating a "big shot" battle the first time or found as a wave reward which we'll get to later (generally, check the wiki). There are only 4 egg moves for each pokemon, and they're mostly ones that can't actually be gotten. They're OP. Pokerus is present. every day, 5 starters (from the entire pool) are chosen to have it, indicated by a purple square around it.

There's only battles in this game, no exploration. There's rounds, which are called waves and each new round brings enemy pokemon or trainers or mystery encounters (we'll talk about it, check the wiki.) and battles work the same way as mainline pokemon games. There's a new, secondary ability called a passive on every pokemon now, and it can be unlocked by using candies, which are gained through catching, hatching, and friendship gain. Candies can also be used to lower costs or buy more eggs.

Anyways, after each wave, you get to choose 3 + number of golden pokeballs you have (can't catch, gotten after certain milestones). All rewards (and all the other stuff on the top of your screen) are only for the current run. You can have infinite held items on a pokemon, so long as the type limit is not exceeded (I can have one of every berry in the game, but I can't have 3 lum berries on one pokemon). there are multiple tiers, indicated by the pokeball that drop in the slot. Sometimes, you'll see the pokeball "rank up" into a higher tier. This is based off of luck, which is increased by the number of non fainted shinies you have in your party in the current run. There are also 3 tiers of shinies per pokemon, though some aren't released yet. (I'll call them t1, t2, and t3 respectively). Check the wiki for all the rewards you can get.

You may also use money (gotten after beating a trainer, using payday or make it rain, or selling honey gotten through the ability honey gather (no clue how it works), or by choosing a money giving reward) to heal your pokemon (check wiki for all the stuff you can buy with money later) or reroll items. More buyable items pop up as you progress. Mystery encounters are special encounters that count as a wave and do stuff based off your choices/replies (check wiki for list of mystery encounters). And finally, CHECK THE WIKI!!! Whew. That was a info dump. That said...let's start on our first run (for this Let's Play, I mean).

Run 01: Goby (Gobi Desert)

Welp, time to start! Looking over the list of starters, the only two I had with pokerus was cubone and piplup. I obviously chose the latter. The piplup was standard, no egg moves, ivs all 15 (piplup is a default starter), no nature stat changes. Since it'd be water and steel much later, I felt pretty safe choosing esicue (egg move aqua step, ivs leaning towards defensive with a near perfect (30 versus 31) in sp. def. Nature doesn't change any stats) and maractus (Earth Power, Spiky Shield, Ingrain, and Absorb. Great defense and sp. atk ivs). To balance the team out, I also grabbed carbink, who had a egg move Body Press. Pure gold right there. Its IVs were pretty well rounded, with near perfects and a perfect for sp. def. Since this team pretty much summed up the Gobi desert, we're off.

Wave 1 brought Pokegod to our table. Just look at those chubby legs, fluffy tail, deceivingly unaware eyes...Bidoof! As such, we killed it. :) Doin so, we got a very, very good item, the EXP. Charm. Just so you know, the level and money curve in this game is enough to wipe out like, 99% of pokemon fans. Probably 100% of competitive players, XD. Pokerogue's so different from competitive. The rest is mostly uneventful, got some berries...yeah, that's not it at all!!! I'm not even kidding, as soon as I wrote this, I got a master tier item-the egg voucher premium. Can't use it in this run, but this is really great, y'all! Once we're onto wave 5, we meet a trainer...using Pokegod! How horrifying! We murder the god. :)

I do a bit more stuff, lalala, and then we're at Wave 8, a rival fight. They're typically really tough and are huge stone walls, but wave 8 and 25 are the easiest fights you'd get. Usually.
Ivy : Hey, did you forget to say bye to me, your best friend?
Goby : ...yes. I didn't know you even existed, what do you mean your best friend? Do you even know my name?
Ivy : Yeah. It's Toby.
Goby (flashing red) : Esicue, Aqua Step.
With that bully out of the way, we continue on. She has a rookidee and a chickorita, both which aren't exactly great, but rookidee's final evolution...[sweats]. At the 10th wave we face a boss pokemon (no gym leaders for the starter biome), a zigzagzoon and we wreck it. Off we go to the Plains biome.
We fight some double battles, nothing too crazy...wait, 3 double battles in a row, with a trainer double battle?! I didn't even use a lure or anything! Rare candies are nice rewards though.
I fight a random lechonk and a manaphy egg I got a while back hatches! B-e-a-u-t-f-i-l. Coincidentally, all three of my reward choices were ultraball tier. I grab the exp. all and continue.
I meet another pair of trainers, fighting type ones.
Killian : I am the one with the strongest kick!
Gobi : What? How dare you dispute delicious sherry-
Hillary : ...aren't you underaged?
Gobi : Carbink, Body Press.
Killian : Wait, my strongest kick didn't help a bit. My pokemon did the fighting.
Gobi : Of course it didn't help! I gave sherry to my pokemon and it-
Hillary : Animal abuse.
[blood splatters]
Sadly, all I get besides the money and exp (very important things), is a potion. Afterwards, I meet a mankey who had a lum berry. Hilariously enough, the rewards contained a lum berry. XD We beat up the boss pokemon and move onto...the Metropolis biome. Still haven gotten a map, which give me the ability to choose where I go. Oh well.
I'm ending here. I think this run is actually getting nicely set up, and doing a Let's Play is a bunch of fun! Until next time! BTW, the voucher I got pulled 9 commons, 1 rare. I think the luck I must've used to get the voucher was for the pull. XD
