The Ancientverse Explained (worldbuilding)

The ancientverse is my Pokemon Legends and Pokemon Conquest inspired universe that is heavily influenced by Chinese wuxia (martial arts fantasy), Japanese samurai tales, and a sprinkling of shonen anime. The ancient Poke-Japan featured in this world (that persists down to the modern day) is named Waku--this is my imagined super-region that Kanto, Johto, Houen, Shinou, and Kitakami are all part of. At this point in the timeline, Kanto and Johto are known as one large region named Tansei, and Houen is called Tenmei. Shinou keeps its ancient name of Hisui, and Kitakami still keeps its name in ancient times.

Rather than names, many characters are known by their martial titles--if someone reveals their true name to you, that means they trust you.

At this stage in the ancientverse's history, the notorious warlord Nobunaga (nee Black Pyroar) has been defeated, and a wiser and kinder emperor known as Divine Dragon--Wataru/Lance's distant ancestor--has ascended the throne. One of Divine Dragon's first acts was to reopen Waku to foreign lands, allowing Kalos to be the first to establish foreign relations with Waku, with Paldea (nee Sabia in this universe) following soon after--an act known as the Opening of Waku in the modern day. Many foreigners take martial titles as well, to fit in with the native Wakunese.

But not all Wakunese welcomed foreign visitors with open arms--some longed to see them driven out, or Waku face a worse fate.

Among all the turmoil in Waku, the people revere and respect the Eight Spirits--Ash and the gang's ancient counterparts. Their martial ability and powers are divine in nature, so many revere them as gods (and rightfully so).

In order, the Eight Spirits are:

--Ruby Phoenix (Ash)
--Sapphire Dragon (Misty)
--Emerald Raikou (Brock)
--Golden Delphox (Serena)
--Jade Beautifly (May)
--Pearl Deerling (Dawn)
--Amethyst Braviary (Liko)
--Garnet Mightyena (Roy)

The tales of this universe are more episodic in nature, but I do have some larger tales planned.

The Eight Spirits

The leader of the Eight Spirits is Ruby Phoenix, the Spirit of Joy and Inspiration. He is said to be as good with a flute as he is with a sword, and his heart burns with the holy fire of courage.

Next is Sapphire Dragon, the Spirit of Wisdom and Balance. As a dragon-born, she knows that there is a time to attack, a time to defend, a time to charge forward with all your strength, and a time to retreat to fight another day. Many that see her fight say that it resembles a dance, with a blade in each hand.

The third Spirit, and Sapphire Dragon's closest confidant, is Emerald Raikou, the Spirit of Strength and Courage. He is very much the scholar of the group, well versed in fine arts and martial arts alike. But when he has to fight, he fights with the fury of a Raikou, whether with a blade or a bow. Those that see his skill with a bow often say he has never missed a shot.

The fourth Spirit, and one of Ruby Phoenix's dearest friends, is Golden Delphox, the Spirit of Magical Cleverness. Wise as much as she is playful, she knows many different ways to turn the most well thought out plans on their heads. Battle to her is almost like a game, and she usually has something witty to say to her foe before striking them down with her ribbon of light.

The fifth Spirit is Jade Beautifly, the Spirit of Happiness and Abundance. Never without a smile, she is a skilled dancer, delighting many with her performances. But her dance is deadly to the forces of evil!

The sixth Spirit, and Jade Beautifly's closest companion, is Pearl Deerling, the Spirit of the Faithful Messenger. Ever vigilant against evil, she knows well how to deal with the spirit realm as much as the physical realm. Her strategies are proven to work no matter where the battle was taking place.

The seventh Spirit is Amethyst Braviary, the Spirit of Natural Wisdom. She knows well every plant and creature in the realm--which ones were safe to eat, and which ones were best for medicine. But her mixtures could harm as well as help--particularly with enchanting her own weapon--enchanted rings that returned to her after striking their targets.

Finally, the eighth spirit is Garnet Mightyena, the Spirit of the Divine Guardian. If the Deerling gives divine wisdom, the Mightyena is a divine warrior, ever ready to pass divine judgement against evil! But the Mightyena has a gentler side too. If someone is lost and alone, meeting Garnet Mightyena on the road is an auspicious sign indeed!
