‘Plot bunny’ is a funny fandom term for a fic idea – so called because they breed like rabbits! Since so many writers end up with a surplus of them, here is a place where you can drop off your unwanted plot bunnies for others to consider adopting, or simply for the sake of sharing.
Feel free to share your plot bunnies, prompts, or even requests you may have for a fic. This is all for fun, of course, and nobody is obligated to write anything.
I'll start with my own plot bunny that I may or may not ever write, but would love to see anyone else's take on it.
There's a popular fan theory that Cyrus is the way he is because he touched Mesprit, and there's a legend that touching Mesprit's tail will cause you to lose all your emotions. This obviously isn't true since Cyrus clearly still has emotions, but it got me thinking. He researched the myths of Sinnoh, and he captured Mesprit itself. If he wanted to rid himself of emotion, he could have touched Mesprit then. Why didn't he? Was he tempted to?
So the plot bunny would be a drabble about being at the lab, seeing Mesprit, knowing it has this affect, thinking about doing it... and choosing not to go through with it.
The idea that Pokemon centers and the nurses that run them can develop grudges against individuals to the point of denying them item selection of things a trainer is allowed to buy. I've read a few chapters so I'm not very far in it.
I'm not sure if she plans to do more with this idea, but here are my thoughts on it: A champion prodigy defeats all opponents pretty much everywhere during their journey. They defeat opponents so often and so brutally, that Pokemon Centers back up and the nurses have to work overtime to compensate for all the injured mon. Eventually it got so bad that Pokemon centers started tracking the prodigy and communicating with other centers to warn them of their arrival to the region or city in the area. And then the prodigy has the gall to show up for healing just so they can go back out to do it all again.
The hatred of the nurses build and they eventually form a coalition. The name? Nursed Grudge. A new evil team like Team Rocket. Their only mission is to crush the prodigy who is now a champion. But how to do that?
They get involved with Pokemon theft. Stealing mon from high value targets like champions of other regions. Using the guise of healthcare they have the access they need to pull it off. Using the power from their stolen mon, they pull strings from the shadows for a new evil team they use as a scapegoat for their crimes...
Ah, I've got another plot bunny. This one is for a Mystery Dungeon setting and takes the opening to @Navar 's Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Heroic Dreamers in a more humorous direction as a twist.
Human dies and meets the legendary mon that will whisk him away to MD land. The mon, Xerneas, gives him a the basic gist that they are dead and doesn't do the greatest job answering questions, but agrees to his request to keep his human memories before abruptly and rudely sending them out to MD land as a water mon.
MC somehow almost drowns as a water mon and gets rescued by those who will be his new friends in MD land.
So. Completely separate from what actually happens in it is where my idea kicks in:
MC has lungs and gills as a water mon but gets spawned into MD land underwater. Normal for a water mon, but the use of his lungs underwater causes him to drown and die. A nearby Riolu witnesses him drown to death and can't fathom how or why an evolved water mon would drown. MC is now back to Xerneas in the spirit realm or whatever it is and the following conversation takes place:
MC: "Really Xern? REALLY?!"
Xern: "What are you doing back here? I made you a water type and put you in water! You even had gills! How did you drown?!"
MC:"Wait. I had gills?!"
Xerneas stares at him for a few seconds before saying "You tried to breathe with your lungs, didn'tyou..."
MC: "THIS IS YOUR FAULT! You spawn me in with NO warning or instructions AT ALL!"
Xern: "Oh dear, not another one... the last one blabbed on and on after they died, I'm NOT listening to this again! Sending you back as a Marshtomp in the same place! Breathe with your gills! If you die again you're on your own. Okloveyoubyeeeee..."
MC is back again and opens his gills instead but has enough difficulty that a Riolu jumps in to save him after having just witnessed 'another' Marshtomp drown and is worried the same thing is about to happen.
MC thanks Riolu and mentions he is surprised Riolu jumped in to help.
Rilou: "Yeah I have no idea who that other Marshtomp was. I might understand if he were a newly hatched Mudkip, but since he was evolved, there must have been something very wrong with him! After all, there is no way a Marshtomp would ever drown since they have gills! There is no way one would be stupid enough to drown! Even feral mon have more sense than that!"
MC: 😅 *Looks over at his previous dead body while thanking any god other than Xern for the fact that Rilou can't read his mind*
So yeah, I think a fic starting with something like that would be great. Oh and then it can be a running joke where MC openly expresses disdain for Xerneas if Xern ever comes in in conversation with other mon. No one else really gets it but the audience would laugh along every time. It might work best for a comedy fic, though.
