Summary
After a chaotic Ursarings chase, Team Rocket and Team Ash found themselves separated and forced to work with unlikely partners to reunite and escape the danger. Only this time, each action scene comes with increased stakes, forcing the characters to depend more than ever upon cooperation.Notes
Another old work of mines. Also my first multi-chapter fanfiction for the series “Canon Rewrites from Team Rocket Episodes”.This fanfiction is a remake of the episode "Forest Grumps," which had a great theme but lost points in execution. Several scenes in the original episode were underdeveloped, especially Team Rocket’s reflection of a better life feeling wasted. While some scenes from the original episode are included in this fanfiction, most of the story has been reimagined to fully explore the episode possibilities.
Last note; this story was previously rated T, but after some changes, I believe to have written a more family-friendly ambiance.
Ash, Misty, and Brock were spending a peaceful time with their Pokémon in a forest when suddenly, Jessie, James, and Meowth arrived on the scene, attempting to steal their Pokémon. This led to a chaotic chase, with numerous Ursaring appearing and forcing everyone to flee. As a result, they became separated into two groups - Ash, Brock, and Jessie in one, and Misty, James, and Meowth in the other. Despite their previous conflicts, both groups formed a truce until they could reunite with their missing members.
As night fell and they couldn’t find the others, Misty, James, and Meowth set out to find a place to rest. Eventually, they stumbled upon a cave and Meowth suggested that they should sleep there. The group eventually went inside. However, their peace was quickly disturbed as a group of Ursarings emerged from the darkness, snarling and growling at the trio, forcing them to flee in panic.
Misty panted heavily as she glared at Meowth, "This is all your fault! Why did you have to suggest going into that cave?"
Meowth retorted back, "I didn't know it was a den full of Ursarings! How could I have known?"
Misty rolled her eyes, "You should have been more careful! We're lucky to even be alive!"
James intervened, “We don’t have time to talk! Run!"
Misty took a deep breath, trying to control her nerves, "Yeah, we need a way out, fast!"
They sprinted through the forest, with the Ursarings in hot pursuit, until they came to a deep ravine. They were essentially cornered by the creatures, although they could still technically jump to the ravine. Not that it would be a sane idea, considering the fall height.
Misty and James looked at the direction the Ursarings were coming from, their bodies shaking in fear. "What will we do now?" Misty questioned.
The Ursarings still didn’t locate their exact spot due to the relatively dense forest around. However, in a matter of seconds, everything could change…
After looking around for possible escapes, Meowth spotted a close platform sticking down the ravine. "Look, guys!" he shouted. "We can jump over to that platform and hide!”
Misty's breathing became ragged as she spoke, "Are you insane? We're unlikely to hide from those Ursarings, let alone find a way out of that!”
"No time, no better ideas!" James replied, grabbing her hand and pulling her towards the edge of the ravine. "On the count of three, we jump together."
Misty gasped at the sudden move, although she nodded in agreement. As they counted down, their hearts pounding with fear, Misty, James, and Meowth leapt into the ravine, screaming.
The trio fell down onto the platform, landing with a soft thud. Despite the relief of surviving the fall, their hearts were still pounding in their chests. They remained on high alert, anxiously awaiting the sound of Ursarings approaching. However, at a given moment, their steps began to decrease in volume, allowing the group to breathe a sigh of relief.
As they caught their breath, Misty scolded James. "This was your idea, wasn't it?"
James sheepishly nodded, "Actually, Meowth found it first, and we just went right through it."
”Yeah, yeah, are youse complimentin’ me now?!” Meowth rhetorically asked with a smirk.
Misty howled at him. “NEVER! Never, EVER, make me do this again!”
While Meowth backed away from her, James leaned towards him. “Don’t mind her, partner.” He mumbled. “She doesn’t get our foolproof resistance to falls, does she?”
With an eye roll of her own, Misty muttered inaudible words to herself, with James and Meowth giggling. Other than that, a few seconds of silence echoed through the rocky landscape, where the trio found themselves trapped and forced to spend the night at.
Meowth broke the silence, his voice tinged with concern, "So what’re we gonna do now? We're stuck here in the middle of this nowhere!”
Misty responded calmly, trying to soothe her companions, "We'll have to stay here for the night and try to figure out a way to get out of here by the morning."
Meowth scoffed, his voice laced with anxiety, "And what if those Ursarings come back? We'll be trapped like rats!"
James spoke up, his tone firm and resolute, "We don't have any other choice, Meowth, so we might as well take the most of it right here."
Misty nodded in agreement and continued, her voice steady, "Besides, we can't do anything in the dark. It's too dangerous to try to find our way out now. Let's just rest and recharge, and we can figure out a plan in the morning."
Meowth sighed, his voice full of trepidation, "Now youse creepin’ me out with yer sync! Okay, you’ve got me there; time to nap and pray."
Misty, James, and Meowth settled on the platform for the night. The ground was hard and cold, but at least it was flat. They knew they needed to rest and gather their energy for the upcoming day.
Misty turned to James and Meowth, "Good night, guys. Tomorrow is going to be a long day."
James replied, "Good night, twerp."
Meowth added, "Yeah, good night, guys."
As they lay down, Misty, James, and Meowth shared the same space, trying to stay warm as the cold night air surrounded them. They were nervous and anxious about the dangers they could face, but they also knew they needed to get some sleep if they were going to survive.
After a few minutes, Misty, James, and Meowth drifted off to sleep, all sharing the same dreams of finding their way out of the ravine and back to safety.
••••••••••
The trio of Ash, Brock, and Jessie had stumbled upon a small cave where they could rest for the night. Brock had managed to build a campfire, and they gathered around it, basking in its warmth.
As they settled in, Ash suggested, "We should get some rest now and start looking for Misty, James, and Meowth tomorrow."
Brock agreed, adding, "Yeah, we don't want to exhaust ourselves. We need to be strong and alert for when we find them."
Jessie nodded, "Agreed.”
With that, the trio prepared to sleep in the cave, hoping to reunite with the others on the following day.
After Ash placed down his sleeping bag, he spoke to his Pikachu, "Good night, Pikachu. Don't worry, we'll find Misty tomorrow."
As the night grew colder, Pikachu went to Ash’s side inside his sleeping bag, snuggling close to him for warmth. Pikachu closed its eyes, feeling safe and secure in its trainer's embrace, and drifted off to sleep with a soft, contented sigh.
Jessie sat by the campfire, watching Ash and Brock. They seemed so content with their simple life, and it made her wonder what she had ever done with hers. She had always dreamed of being a famous performer and a nurse while living in luxury, but instead, she found herself there, sleeping in a cave with her enemies.
As she watched Ash and Brock drift off to sleep, Jessie couldn't help but question her own choices. What had she accomplished? What had she even tried to accomplish? She had so many dreams and objectives, yet she felt no closer to achieving these than she did as a starter.
Suddenly, Brock appeared beside her, holding out a blanket. "Here you go, Jessie," he said, offering it to her. "It's getting cold out here."
Jessie gasped before calming down. "Thanks…” She shyly replied, taking the blanket and wrapping it around her shoulders. As she settled back into her sleeping bag, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was meant for something more, but for the moment, she would have to settle for the warmth of the fire and the opportunity to sleep comfortably.
••••••••••
Hours later, the campfire had died down, and the only sound left was the gentle breathing of Ash, Brock, and Pikachu. Jessie laid there, her mind racing. She couldn't help but think about how happy Ash and Brock were with their simple life, and it was still making her question her own choices.
As she laid there, she considered the idea of kidnapping Pikachu while Ash and Brock were asleep. It was so tempting to steal the Pokémon right there that Jessie quietly crawled towards it.
Once close enough, she swiftly grabbed it and silently walked away from the cave and into the darkness of the night, with Pikachu being held in her hands.
If the Pokémon weren’t sleeping, Jessie would shout in excitement. Instead, she limited herself to happily jumping around.
A few meters away from the cave, however, one of her bounces led to a branch being stepped on, resulting in an easily audible cracking noise.
The sound was loud enough for Pikachu to open its eyes, gasping slightly. It then looked around, noticing that the Team Rocket member Jessie, her eyes widened, had been holding it.
With a simple push done by its paws, Pikachu released itself from Jessie’s hands, jumping towards the ground. “Pii Pikaa-chu Pika?” It shouted in a high-pitched voice, frowning while still looking at her.
Jessie broke from her frozen expression, her hand moving towards her pocket where her Poké Balls were located, opening her mouth in a growl fashion.
Before any words came from Jessie’s mouth and her hands even touched her pocket, a loud roar, followed by a large creature’s presence around 50 feet away from them, could be sensed. The creature, recognizable as a Ursaring, then proceeded to approach Jessie and Pikachu.
With a loud scream, Jessie ran away from it as fast as she could, while Pikachu ran even faster than her.
Yet, her running speed was no match for Ursaring’s, who began preparing a Solar Beam attack while still approaching its prey.
Noticing this, Jessie and Pikachu both jumped to their sides. The electric Pokémon was used to dodge such attacks, so it landed on its four paws.
However, the human female fell over the ground. She then looked at the approaching Ursaring, who reached a distance of about 7 feet away from her before it came to a full stop and growled furiously at Jessie, its mouth filling with another Solar Beam attack to use against her.
Panicking, she ran her hands into her pocket in search of her Poké Balls to protect herself.
At that moment, a loud electricity noise was heard, followed by a “Piii-ka-chuuu!”. Jessie glanced at the direction of the sound, soon enough to see Pikachu launching its Thunderbolt at the Ursaring, preventing it from attacking her.
The electric attack had no other effects on the bear Pokémon, aside from angering it even more. With an even louder roar than before, the Ursaring charged at Pikachu, ignoring Jessie.
The yellow Pokémon began running away, its small heart bouncing. Ursaring followed it, although Pikachu’s speed was noticeably higher than its pursuer’s.
As the two Pokémon were getting away, Jessie got up from the ground, finally going from widened eyes to narrowed ones. “That shockfur… It was under my hold! Why did that dumb twig have to be there to spoil my brilliant plan?” She said, looking at the Ursaring and Pikachu running in the horizon.
Jessie then sighed, her following voice barely a whisper, “At least, I’m not a heap of ashes… thanks to that sparky rat.”
She then observed a super distant Ursaring roaring a few times before walking too far away to be seen. Jessie looked down before saying, “Guess I owe it one… begrudgingly.”
Just then, the Pikachu could be seen running back at where Jessie was standing. Yet, it remained distant from her by a few feet. “Ka-pi… Pi-pika, Pika.” It said, yawning afterwards.
Looking at it resulted in Jessie yawning as well, her thoughts wandering to Brock’s blanket. Her body then shivered, begging for her to go back to the cave and sleep with his wrap.
Jessie finally sighed. “Oh, the shockfur needs a guide now, does it? Fine, follow me, but don't expect me to carry you like some oversized Pikachu plushie...” She spoke before yawning once again, walking back to the cave without looking back to check if Pikachu was following.
The electric Pokémon rolled its eyes before following the human, who seemed more like a zombie, given her poor back posture.
Several seconds later, the duo arrived at the cave where Ash and Brock had been sleeping.
Pikachu hopped towards Ash, being careful not to wake him up. It then positioned itself inside the small improvised sleeping bag, its eyes slowly closing afterwards.
Meanwhile, Jessie went to the place where she left Brock’s blanket. She laid down inside her own sleeping bag and moved the wrap to cover most of her body. Not even a few seconds passed, she was fast asleep.

The sun was already high up in the sky when Misty, James, and Meowth woke up on the platform inside the ravine. They greeted each other and stretched their bodies, still feeling sore from the uncomfortable sleeping arrangement.
"So, what's the plan now?" Meowth asked.
Misty looked around and tried to come up with a solution. "I think the best way is to climb up the same way we fell down here."
James looked skeptical. "But how are we going to do that? It's too high and dangerous!”
Misty replied, "I have an idea. James, can you use your Victreebel to help us climb up?"
James hesitated for a moment, but he knew that it was their only option at the moment. He called his Victreebel out of its Poké Ball. As soon as Pokémon exited the ball, Victreebel bit his head, causing James to complain loudly, while Misty and Meowth sighed at them.
After Victreebel let go of James’s head, James sighed. “Could you wrap your vines around us and lift us to the surface?” He asked.
Victreebel nodded, doing as he said. By using its strength and its wines, it lifted Misty, James, and Meowth upwards at once.
Eventually, they made it to the top, and Misty, James, and Meowth all breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thanks, Victreebel," James said, returning it to its Pokeball.
However, their relief was short-lived. As they discussed their next move, a distant roar was audible, signaling that Ursarings were close.
Misty shouted, "Run!" as she led the group.
James cried out, "But which way do we go? We don't even know where we are!"
Meowth, huffing and puffing, managed to reply, "Just keep goin’! We can't stay here!"
As they ran, they could hear a pack of bears growling and snarling some meters behind them. Misty shouted over her shoulder, "We have to find some kind of shelter or cover!"
James suggested, "Maybe we can climb a tree or something?"
Meowth added, "And hope those Ursarings can't climb too?! Better for us to just keep runnin’ away!"
Despite their fear, the trio kept running, searching for any kind of escape from the Ursarings' wrath.
••••••••••
After waking up, Ash, Pikachu, Brock, and Jessie greeted each other with sleepy smiles as they prepared to resume their search for Misty, James, and Meowth in the big forest. Brock noticed Ash's curious gaze on Jessie and asked, "What's up, Ash?"
Ash hesitated for a moment before asking, "I was just wondering...what made you want to become a Team Rocket agent, Jessie?"
Jessie sighed, remembering the incident from yesterday. Not that she would comment on that, though. For some reason, though, she felt chill enough around Ash and Brock to tell them. "I…I once had dreams… like being the greatest nurse ever… but…-“ She stopped, refraining from talking deeper into her personal struggles.
Brock nodded in understanding, “I can totally understand you. For me, breeding Pokémon is more than a job to me; it's my lifelong passion.” He said. “It's had its challenges, sure, but overcoming them has been part of the journey.“
Ash nodded, "I can understand that too. I always wanted to be a Pokemon master, and I'm glad I get to be a great trainer. There’s still a big journey ahead of me, but trust me, it’s worth it."
Ash’s Pikachu jumped from the ground to his shoulder, cheering, “Pika-pi!”
Jessie remained quiet for a moment, lost in thought. She had also always wanted to be a successful Pokemon trainer, but…but her life had taken a different path. She simply shook her head and focused on the task at hand, to reunite with the others.
As they continued to search, they heard a distant sound of things getting blown. The three of them exchanged a long period look.
“Did you hear that?” Ash asked, his eyes darting in the direction of the distant sound.
Brock's brow furrowed as he strained to listen. “Yeah, sounds like something bad.”
“Then what are we waiting for?” Jessie questioned, a hint of curiosity and concern in her voice. The group soon started running towards the direction of the noise.
As the group went closer and closer to the noises, Ash, his Pikachu, Brock, and Jessie saw Misty, James, and Meowth at a moderate distance from them.
Ash, Pikachu, Brock, and Jessie were relieved to see Misty, James, and Meowth running towards them. But the look of panic on their faces immediately erased any sense of calmness.
"What's going on?" Ash asked, his voice strained.
"Ursarings!" James panted. "We stumbled upon a pack of them while searching for you guys.”
"We have to go, now!" Misty shouted, urging them to run.
The group quickly took off, with Ash and Misty leading the way. They could hear the loud thudding of Ursarings chasing after them, their heavy footsteps echoing throughout the forest.
Brock turned back for a moment and saw the menacing creatures getting closer to them. "We need to find a way to escape," he said, scanning the area frantically.
Jessie pointed to a small cave opening up ahead. "There! We can hide inside!”
They all nodded as they ran towards the cave, with Ursarings hot on their trail. They squeezed through the small cave entrance just in time, huddling together as they heard the angry Ursarings growling and scratching at the cave entrance.
The group waited in silence, trying to catch their breath and calm their racing hearts. Misty, James, and Meowth shared their encounter with the Ursarings, and the group discussed their next move.
"We can't stay here forever!" Ash said. "We need to find a way out of this mess!"
Brock nodded in agreement. "We should come up with a plan to get out of here before those Ursarings figure out a way to get to us."
Jessie was quiet for a moment, thinking of something to get out of the situation. She then remembered once again what happened last day, regarding Pikachu’s technique to lure the Ursaring away from her. She then speaks up, “I may have an idea," she said, her voice steady despite the fear that still lingered in the air. She took a deep breath. “Pikachu can lure the Ursarings away from the blocked entrance. Then, while they're distracted, we can make a run for it and hopefully find another way out."
Ash and Pikachu both looked hesitant. "But what if my friend gets hurt? We can't risk losing him."
Jessie narrowed her eyes, crossing her arms.
Before she opened her mouth to speak, Pikachu looked up at Ash with a determined expression. “Pika, Pika-pikachu!” It said, smiling confidently.
Ash widened his eyes, but soon nodded without further questions.
"Alright, let's do this!" Ash and James exclaimed in perfect unison, their eyes shining with determination. Because of their synchrony, their smiles took an even higher degree upwards.
Pikachu darted towards the Ursarings, letting out a series of powerful Thunderbolts. The Ursarings roared and charged towards the electric rodent, their eyes glinting with fury. But Pikachu was too quick for them, zigzagging around and taunting them with his electrifying moves. The Ursarings completely forgot about the group and focused all their attention on Pikachu, giving Ash, Misty, Brock, Jessie, James, and Meowth the opportunity to make their escape.
As the group made their way away from the cave, they could hear the Ursarings growling and roaring in the distance. Brock turned around to take a look and saw that Pikachu was successfully leading them away from the group.
"That's my buddy!" Ash said with a grin once Pikachu ran back to them. "He always knows how to handle a situation."
Misty nodded in agreement. "He's a quick thinker, that's for sure."
Jessie chimed in, "I have to admit, that Pikachu of yours is even more impressive than I thought."
James added, "Yeah, and I never thought I'd say this, but thanks for your help back there, Pikachu."
Pikachu, who had now caught up with the group, blushed at the praise. Ash patted him on the head and said, "Don't be shy, buddy. You did a great job!"
The group then shared a moment of relief and gratitude for each other's safety. However, Meowth broke the good moment with its words, "Now that we're all safe and reunited, it's time for us to go back to doing what we do best, stealing." he said.
Jessie and Misty nodded in agreement, clenching their fists. Ash, Brock, and James, on the other hand, were not ready to go back to their old ways just yet.
Ash spoke up, his voice carrying a hint of exhaustion. "Guys, can't we just take this opportunity to enjoy our time together? We've been through a lot today, and I don't know about you, but I could use a break from all the fighting."
Brock nodded in agreement, his tired eyes conveying a sense of weariness. "Ash is right. We've all been through a lot, and we should try to put our differences aside and just enjoy each other's company for a little while longer."
James, who had been quiet up until this point, spoke up with a thoughtful expression on his face. "I think it's important to remember that we all share a common love for Pokemon. Despite our differences and past conflicts, we can all appreciate the beauty and power of these amazing creatures.”
Misty sighed, begrudgingly accepting the idea of extending the truce. "Fine, but don't get the wrong idea. We're still rivals, and that's not going to change anytime soon."
Jessie rolled her eyes, but deep down, she was relieved to have a break from their usual battles. "I guess a temporary ceasefire won't hurt. Who knows, we might even come up with some better schemes after it."
Meowth shrugged, secretly glad for a reprieve from their constant failed attempts at stealing Pikachu. "Eh, why not? A break from blasting off all the time sounds pretty good to me."
"Pika-pika!” Cheered it enthusiastically.
They all knew that they would eventually have to go back to their respective teams and continue their missions, but for the moment, they were all just glad to be alive and together. They walked together, uniting their hands with each other.
After all, the moment was nice, and everyone knew they should take advantage of it by making a truce, even if it lasted for just that great moment.

After all, the moment was nice, and everyone knew they should take advantage of it by making a truce, even if it lasted for just that great moment.

I would add that the argument happened WHILE they were running and James should say something more like "They are gaining on us! No time to argue!"
