Pokémon Coming Out of the Closets With Chocolates

SnowySummers

Bug Catcher
Description: It had been a long time since Dawn had seen Zoey. So long that Dawn had been doing quite a lot of soul-searching and coming to terms with things about herself in the meantime. So when the day that the two finally meet again happens to be Valentine's Day of all days, Dawn takes it as a sign that she has to at least try! She has to tell Zoey about the feelings Dawn has for her!

Age Rating: General

“Okay… I’ve just got to go up… and talk with her. Give her the chocolates and say… say… ah shoot! What am I supposed to say again?” Dawn whimpered as she looked down at the incredibly disappointed duo of Piplup and Buneary.

“Plup…” Puplup groaned as he rolled his eyes.

“Hey! Don’t tease me!” Dawn whined at her Pokemon. “You know I’m bad at this…” A small whimper escaped her mouth as she looked around the corner to see her goal: Zoey.

“Bun!! Bun bun!” Buneary hopped up to smile at Dawn, clearly trying to psyche her up.

“You’re right, Buneary! I can do this! I know I can!” Dawn nodded with a gulp. After all, there's no need to worry, right? The worst thing that can happen is she says ‘no’, right?”

Upon her two Pokemon’s nods, Dawn peeked her head back around the corner again. It had been quite a while since she split from Ash and Brock and hadn't expected to see Zoey for quite a while. So of course, on the day that she finally does see Zoey again, what other day could it be than Valentine's Day? And Dawn had been doing quite a bit of soul searching in that time. What's the saying again? Distance makes the heart grow fonder? Well, distance also makes you realize a certain number of things.

“Ohhh… this is a bad idea. I can’t do it. What if I have it all wrong and she’s straight? She could laugh at me. She could report me to the league for harr-AHH!!” Dawn yelled out as she suddenly stumbled around the corner that she was hiding behind due to Buneary having enough of her trainer's crap and had hopped up to literally give her trainer the kick in the ass she needed.

“Hm?” Zoey had been sitting on a park bench while watching her Pokemon enjoy their time running around and goofing off when the sound of Dawn’s yelp reached her ears. Upon looking in the direction in which the yelp came from, Zoey let out a gasp.

“Dawn?! Is that you?” Zoey asked in disbelief as she stood up from the bench.

Dawn, in a blind panic, quickly hid the heart-shaped box of chocolates behind her back with one arm as she casually waved at Zoey with a clear blush. “Um… Hey Zoey! Long time, no see, huh?”

Zoey's smile was electrifying. The surprise of seeing Dawn again made it so that she couldn’t stop smiling. A smile that made Dawn swoon. “I’ll say! It’s been so long! Where have you been? You look so good! Come here!” Zoey beckoned Dawn over to the bench.

Dawn’s mind was racing as she slowly walked over to Zoey while cursing her Pokemon silently. “T-Thank you. But I think you look even better. You look beautiful!” The words fell out of Dawn’s mouth before she even realized what she said. Zoey’s sudden blush caused Dawn to feel like she was about to explode.

“O-oh…” Zoey smiled genuinely as she stared into Dawn’s eyes. “That’s so kind of you to say. It’s nice to hear that, to be honest.” Zoey trailed off while staring into Dawn’s eyes, though she seemingly caught herself after a few seconds. “Oh! I’m so sorry! How rude of me! Happy Valentine's Day, Dawn! Do you have a Valentine? Tell me about him.”

Dawn gulped lightly. Was she really about to do this? This would be the point of no return… Ah, screw it! No need to worry, right? “I actually don’t have a Valentine. I um… I hadn’t seen the person I wanted to ask to be mind in a long time…”

“Oh…” Zoey nodded with a frown. “I’m sorry to hear that, Dawn. If it’s any consolation, know that I don’t have a Valentine's either. So we get to be single together.” Zoey finished with a wink at Dawn which nearly made her want to squeal.

Doing her best to remain composed, Dawn took a deep breath while staring into Zoey’s eyes. “About that…” In one, swift motion, Dawn swung the box of chocolates around from its hiding place behind her back and was now presented to Zoey. “W-Would you please be my Valentines?” Dawn stammered out with her entire body shaking in fear. She swore that she could hear Piplup and Buneary cheering behind her but she tried her best not to focus on them.

Zoey seemed to be completely floored by the question. The ender girl merely stared at Dawn in disbelief as her gaze alternated from the chocolates, to Dawn’s terrified expression, and then back to the chocolates again. “I… I had no idea you felt that way, to be totally honest…”

“How could I not feel this way?!” Dawn nearly screamed, though she quickly realized how loud she was being and adjusted the volume of her voice. “I mean, just look at you! Confident, beautiful, kind, talented, and you have the most gorgeous eyes that I have ever seen!” Dawn couldn’t stop herself as she raved at Zoey about everything she admired the girl for. It was as if the floodgates had finally burst open and no amount of fear or trepidation was going to stop her now.

Dawn’s words caused Zoey’s face to flush bright red. The elder girl just stared into Dawn’s eyes for what felt like an eternity. “T-That is… probably the most flattering and romantic thing anyone had ever said to me… But that isn’t what I meant.” Zoey paused to try and find the proper way to express her thoughts. “I didn’t know that you were gay. I mean, I thought that you liked Ash…”

“I… well…” Dawn frowned as she looked down at the wood of the bench between her and Zoey. “I guess I just… got tired of lying to myself. I mean, I always knew that I wasn’t really… I don’t know… Normal? Straight? I never really had any crushes, not real ones. At least, not until I saw you and met you.”

Dawn finally looked back up at Zoey as she felt a pressure building in her chest. “I tried… I tried to just tell myself that I was jealous. I was just admiring you because you're so much of a better coordinator than me, that you're so much more beautiful, more confident! But I… I just couldn’t take it anymore! I couldn’t take lying to myself anymore and just push it down! Zoey… I lo… well, I… Will you be my Valentine?!”

Dawn held up the box of chocolates again to hide behind as she felt as if she might die of stress if she had to look at Zoey again. Zoey, on the other hand, seemed more amused by the attempt to hide more than anything. “Alright.”

Dawn let out a small squeak while lowering the box of chocolates. “Alright? Just alright?”

“Yeah. It’s all that my parents said when I finally came out of the closet to them. I figured it might help you just like it did when my parents used it on me.” Zoey explained with a calm, reassuring, non-judging smile on her face as she looked at Dawn. “And, this is just a guess, but am I the first person you’ve come out to? Because your speech had ‘coming out’ written all over it.”

“H-Hey!” Dawn’s reaction caused Zoey to giggle, causing Dawn to blush. “W-well I… I guess you’re right… The only people who know are my Pokemon and you. I haven’t even told my mom or the guys…” Dawn admitted with a small frown as she looked down at the ground with a frown.

“Hey, that’s okay. I can give you some tips to help you. Besides, if you’re half as cute coming out to everyone else as you did me, you’ll have no problem.” Zoey smirked at Dawn’s blush at being called cute.

“Y-You… think I’m cute?” Dawn’s chest fluttered as she tried to keep calm and not freak out over the fact that her crush just called her cute. “I… well, that’s… I didn’t…”

“Of course I do!” Zoey cut her off, saving Dawn from the embarrassment of her failure to form a complete sentence in her flustered state. “And it’s adorable when you’re flustered like this.”

Dawn whined a bit as she reached up and pulled her hat down to hide her face of embarrassment. “P-Please stop! My heart can’t take this anymore!!”

Zoey's laughter was almost enough to cause Zoey to climb under the bench and never want to come back out again. “Alright, alright. You win. Come on, let’s go get a Valentine's lunch. It’ll be my treat. I can give you some tips on how to come out if you’d like.” Zoey offered as she stood up from the bench and held her hand out for Dawn to grab.

“You don’t have to do that. Really. I can pay.” Dawn tried to offer as she took Zoey’s hand, though she was caught off guard as Zoey pulled her to her feet quickly and kept pulling. Zoey pulled Dawn right against her and into a kiss. It was quick, and it wasn’t much, but it was everything that Dawn could ever ask for…

After pulling away from the small peck on the lips, Zoey smiled as she stared into Dawn’s eyes for a moment before turning to walk down the sidewalk with her fingers intertwined with Dawn’s. “Come on. I know a great place nearby but we have to beat the lunch rush! Are you ready to go?”

“Y… yeah.” Dawn stared at Zoey with a small blush. “I’m ready to go if you are!” Dawn’s affirmation was all that Zoey needed as she began walking with Dawn right beside her. She hadn’t believed how well this had gone. Though, Dawn should have expected it, to be honest. After all, there’s no need to worry when she’s with Zoey.
