I think a bunch of other PMD authors do it as well, but I decided to go for it on my own. It's just simply that "mon" is a shorter, more convenient word and sounds more natural than "pokémon", not to mention we know pokémon is a shortening of "pocket monster" which doesn't really make any sense...
