Prompt 2- The Geography of my pmd fic's world is one I'm still in the process of fleshing out.

Geography is far from my strongest area of expertise though. I think I'll come back to this prompt later and edit this post after thinking some more about it.

3. Who rules in your world?

The Five Continents aren't ruled by one consolidated government. Jursidiction mainly falls under the largest organizations that exist to take it -- the massive management companies that rule every recognized guild on the continents they govern. Helping Adventurous Pokemon Prosper Institute (HAPPI) is the current largest organization on the planet, with control of three continents and a stronghold on the resources and new technology that come out of Pokemon Paradise and the Mist Continent. Its predecessor was the Rescue Team Federation, which collapsed in on itself after the death of its leader and its inability to innovate as fast as HAPPI could. The Sand Continent is nearly barren of civilisation, and instead is governed by the Archeology Division, a group that is independent of any guild or guild management organization but works with them closely to set up expeditions.

The Grass Continent is famous for refusing to innovate along with the rest of the world or be governed by any management organization after the fall of the Rescue Team Federation; each guild is independent and claims ownership over a specific chunk of land. The continent instead lives in a relatively primitive state compared to the rest of the world, despite HAPPI's repeated attempts to encroach upon the land and the pokemon living there.

So when I was 15-21 I spent my time writing a big pokefic I called SoH. SoH is my baby and I want to rewrite and continue it, but a big change I want to make is setting it on its own region. SoH originally took place on Kanto/Johto because the plot was half-ripped off from SoulSilver but I started getting creative with my headcanons and straining the existing worldbuilding when I suddenly realized... wait, I can just plop my story somewhere I can make from scratch. And thus the Renjo region was born.

Not everything I post here is going to be written this June as I've already written some worldbuilding. (Hmmm, I wonder how much.--wait wtf 24k words no really when did that happen.) But I want to share for fun and community so here you go! Here's a section that answers the first three questions of both prompt lists.

  1. Tell us about your world.
  2. What’s the Geography of your world?
  3. Who lives in your world?

  1. Tell us about your world.
  2. What's the geography of your world/region?
  3. How intelligent are pokémon in your world?

Since this is Pokémon fanfiction, I write about the world of Pokémon. Since the canon of the Pokémon world is shaky at best, I write about my version of the world and Pokémon. I have a bunch of headcanons and rules and all that that I use to make sense of the Pokémon universe, but the biggest thing that characterizes my version is that all Pokémon are fully sapient and having fun with the ramifications that come from that.

SoH is set on the Renjo region, which is a region created specifically so I would have the freedom to do whatever I want. Renjo is a large region: containing nearly every kind of biome (because if I’m making a region I’m shoving everything I want in there). A huge number of Pokémon species live in this region. In fact, every kind of Pokémon lives on Renjo (well, except the legendaries, but they can visit). Humans are most common on the west side of the region and become more sparse the further east you go. West Renjo has (relatively) large cities, while Middle Renjo is far from unpopulated by humans but communities tend to be smaller and very interspecies. Very few humans live in the Eastern. East Renjo is mostly home to various communities of Pokémon who are varying amount of unfriendly to humans/human culture. Humans have made a deal with East Pokémon to leave them alone, and do a pretty good deal of upholding that deal, so all portions of the region live in tenable harmony.

Renjan human/Pokemon had been strained for centuries. However, in the 10th century of the 20th millennium, movements of both humans and Pokémon came into significance to promote unity. Perennial City became the first human city to integrate Pokémon as full citizens and, on May 3, 949, the leader of humans communities and many Pokémon leaders cooperated to pass amendments that recognized equal rights of all species.

By the time story takes place (around 1013/21013, this pokeverse is only 20k years old btw) humans and Pokémon live together in relative harmony. The idea of humans and Pokémon living separately would seem foreign to any human, but things are far from perfect. Pokémon face discrimination in most human communities and some Pokémon communities do not tolerate outsiders, especially human ones, and humans can’t really do anything too pushy about that because the Pokémon will kick their asses if they’re too annoying. There are also more, ahem, extreme groups who actively aggravate relations between Pokémon and humans for various reasons.

Renjo is a large region containing basically every biome because if I’m making a fan region I might as well shove everything my heart desires in there. There is no regard for realism because I don’t care. I do what I want.

There are a lot of forests though, because I like forests.

Anyway, Renjo is like a wonky rounded rectangle in my head with a scattering of islands on the southwest side (and probably more in other places). As implied, the west side of the region is more populated with big ol cities and stuff than the East. Humans generally prefer modern cities, while Pokémon are more likely to live in smaller communities, be nomadic, and/or prefer to live in more natural environments. A prominent mountain range splits Middle and East Renjo.

There are the Cerise Islands to the south of the main Renjan region and which is really its own thing. They’re good neighbors with Renjo; the two regions are very cooperative and no drama or anything like that, but they’re separate entities.

I honestly haven't figured out the Thunder Continent's geography yet, aside from that there's a lot of mountains.
How intelligent are pokémon in your world?
Just as intelligent as humans. They have their own society, writing, literature, communities, technology, and more.

Prompt 3: Level of Intelligence of Pokemon

Most pokemon in Eudelain are more or less human level intelligence, however, there are exceptions. There's a class of pokemon that are instead known as "Elementals". They are still living creatures, but they act more like objects. Some exmaples include Slugma, Solrock/Lunatone, Claydol, Jellicent. Elementals are "spawned" into the world naturally. Solrock and Lunatone are formed by stones that coalece under Psychic energy, and Slugma are born from extremely powerful lava flows. Some of them are defensive of where they are, but others are perfectly peaceful. Some can even be trained, like Solrock and Lunatone. Thanks to being elementals, these two pokemon never tire. This makes them the most effective non-flight transport method in Eudelain, as they can be trained to pull carriages.

Day 2: What's the geography of your world?
hey guys... guess what...
27af2d3001aa05f2d4cecabfa1e7d1ab.jpg
unfortunately the geography and climate/biome zones aren't quite as apparent on this map as they were on the one i was using last year, but on the whole i think this map looks much better, so i'm vibing. :p

i'm still working on some of the particular geography of my world, but the broad strokes are there! auspice is a bit smaller than earth, relatively hot and moist, spins retrograde, and has reduced gravity as a consequence of its size. lower gravity means higher mountains, taller trees, and bigger creatures. the lower gravity paired with the planet's somewhat thicker atmosphere makes it uniquely suited to flight—great news for the planet's many birds, and certainly not a coincidence considering the world was carefully cultivated as a bird sanctuary. the landmass shown in the map is the only major landmass on the planet and is a bit smaller than the americas. the rest of the world is covered in a gigantic ocean.

i'll spare you too much nitty gritty on the climate/biome details, but in short: auspice is much warmer and wetter than our world. it's not as extreme as cretaceous earth; think more like the US south, but on a planetary scale. (hey, write what you know, right.) there are plenty of wetlands and jungle—the Sagewood, for example, is one huge rainforest. there are some exceptions to the overall pattern, however. the relatively extreme mountains permitted by the world's lower gravity create some relatively dry areas, such as the Great Desert. the Isle of Angels is roughly comparable to greenland in terms of climate, which doesn't seem quite explainable by the planet's climate patterns—perhaps some kind of magic is at play? aside from that exception, even the world's most northerly regions are relatively hot and humid compared to ours; the upper reaches of alcia, while once covered in permafrost and glaciers, is now mostly taiga, some of it quite boggy.

it gets much more granular and diverse than that, but i'm trying not to ramble too much. :p i expect i'll get into more local conditions as i start talking about specific civilizations and cultures. in general i'm more or less imagining a planetary florida with some pretty wacky natural landmarks thanks to the world's reduced gravity.

3. Who lives in your world?

This is once again very different depending on the galactic sectors.

Earthome Sector:

-Terrans: Your average run of the mill humans you see in many timelines. Expanded to the stars after a technological revolution.

-Paraterrans - A bizarre incident in the human gene pool has caused many parahumans to develop, featuring impossible genes that give them a stunning range of fantastical traits. Can interbreed with normal humans, which has about even odds of normal human or parahuman offspring.

-AI: Sapient computer programs developed by humans for various purposes. Can inhabit a robotic shell or move between various Earthome devices.

-Uplifted animals: Various Earth species given sapience by humans using special technology. Some of these include bonobos, octopuses, and ravens.

Pact Sector:

-E'prm: Strange, starfish-like tripedaliens who do much of the gruntwork in The Pact. They were peaceful before being brought into The Pact.

-Sqaaalk: Powerful, carnivorous muscled bipeds with odd peircing mouthparts that serve as the elite soldiers of The Pact.

-Lan'ca: Four-eyed carnivores with electrically-charged wool on their bodies. Often used as living, reusable electric bombs.

-Dorm-Syrnta: Amphibious, worm-like creatures with many retractable prehensile tentacles. Good with technology and often used as pilots due to their swimming skills translating well to the vaccum of space.

-PsarinQlang: Squat, psychic, eight-armed, naked, wrinkly, and pointy-toothed people that transfer memories between descendants, and thus consider themselves immortal. Serve as strategists and generals in The Pact.

Some more members of the Pact may yet to be discovered, by both Earth natives and I.

1. Tell us about your world.

The QftLverse is roughly an interpretation of the Pokémon anime universe, with a lot of bits of worldbuilding accumulated over sixteen years of writing my trainerfic The Quest for the Legends and its offshoots. The anime is broadly canon to it, except for any bits that outright contradict core premises of the QftLverse - for instance, it's important that legendaries are single-individual species who do not breed, so as the anime went on I had to consider certain episodes and movies noncanon to TQftL. I also haven't actually followed the anime since Kanto, so there may well be things established in it that I don't know about at all!

The Morphicverse is the universe of Morphic, my Pokémorph fanfic. It is very different from the QftLverse - the anime and games exist as fiction within it, and the world is broadly to be regarded as a close analogue of the real world, with Pokémon existing but the impact of their existence relatively subdued. Culturally it's pretty 2007, which not coincidentally is the year I originally started the fic.

2. What's the geography of your world/region?

The QftLverse's geography is whatever the Pokémon anime's is! Which I broadly understand to be meant to be close to real-world geography, but any future revelations in the anime about the geography of the world should be able to be canon to TQftL, and thus I intentionally choose to stay vague about the broader picture.

The story itself takes place in a fan region called Ouen (pronounced Owen), a smaller island region. You can see a map of it here. It wound up with sort of an Icelandic climate or a little warmer in the summer for the most part, though as a region created by a twelve-year-old it has a random desert in it because of course.

The Morphicverse... is unspecified, which is to say it probably looks like Earth but so far I've shied away from actually naming countries in it and will probably continue to. The story takes place in the Morphicverse's version of the USA, but it feels strange both to explicitly give it that name on the page, and thus open a can of worms regarding how world history turned out so similar despite the existence of Pokémon, or to give it another, and thus separate it from the reality it's clearly inspired by. A lot of things in the Morphicverse exist in this kind of limbo where I feel they must be vague to retain the effect I'm going for! Ideally the reader should be able to smoothly and invisibly assume it's the Poké-US without the kind of explicitness that'd prompt them to think about it too hard.

Either way, the story takes place in the fictional major city of Grace City (population probably a couple hundred thousand people) and the neighboring suburban Taillow Springs (~10,000ish people).

3. How intelligent are pokémon in your world?

In the QftLverse, all Pokémon are fully sapient, but have different cultures and ways of thinking. In general, they lack creativity compared to humans and feel little desire or initiative to build structures, invent tools, or devise different lifestyles. Humans doing those sorts of things is a Weird Human Thing. There is plenty of variation within the normal curve and some Pokémon do have talents and interests in that direction, but it tends to be seen as pretty weird and other Pokémon are fairly baffled by it.

The vast majority of Pokémon enjoy battling and do it for fun in the wild all the time, but it's commonly known and accepted that Pokémon battle better and have more exciting opportunities to safely battle all sorts of Pokémon if they have a trainer, and so ambitious Pokémon tend to seek out trainers to help them reach their full potential.

In the Morphicverse, Pokémon are much more animalistic. Their intelligence is more on the level of a dog or bird; as far as anyone can tell they're incapable of complex communication of the sort humans do, though they can effectively express simple sentiments ("I'm hungry", "I want to fight", etc.). People's relationship to Pokémon is much more like people's relationship to animals in the real world, plus Pokémon training as a sport (Pokémon still very much love to fight each other and have a strong competitive instinct, and in fact become distressed if unable to battle for some time). Pokémon's powers are relatively subdued in this universe; only the strongest Pokémon are a match for a skilled human with a gun.

  1. Tell us about your world.
  2. What’s the Geography of your world?
  3. Who lives in your world?

Tell us about your world:

For this project I intend to do my original fantasy world. A lot of the information is still in flux and being decided, so may be subject to massive changes. The unofficial or maybe official title of the book is ‘Once Upon a Dragon’. It takes places in a hybridized fantasy/sci-fi setting that includes planets and spaceships but is otherwise low-tech in some ways, high tech in others. And magic. Because ya gotta have magic.

Loose medieval fantasy because King/Queens/castles but the governmental systems are a bit different.

The grand title of my ‘world’ might Oraa. That’s what I recently have been going with at least.

Another name for it was once Luxora.

During a certain phase of planning, it was going to be originally called Oraa and during the history of the world it would eventually be renamed. It stands to be seen if I will do this.

What is the geography of your world?

There are five planets in this setting (each a little smaller than earth, I’d imagine.)

Arboris, Dunevar, Gomahtai, Frostell and Quara

Each planet has an entirely unique ecosystem (because bump science). These planets are connected by various magic portals that link them, or maybe they have ships that can fly only within the solar system. I... I don’t know. Sue me ok, I keep flipping back and forth. In the most recent iteration, they probably still have space ships.

Now, for specific planets:

Arboris is a temperate, forested planet. A few mountains and hills, mostly forests and such. Mild temperatures, specializes heavily in the lumber trade. Their castle is a massive, living tree that is hollow within and stands hundreds of feet tall.

Dunevar is a sandy, desert planet with canyons and prairies. Think Grand Canyon/desert/Nevada/Texas-y vibes. Their main trade is glass and their cities are beautiful glass domes. The castle itself is glass as well, although nothing at all like the glass of our world. Their glass forging is unparalleled and tough as steel.

Gomahtai is a rocky, mountainous planet with volcanoes, steep cliffs and lots of gray on the outside but a subtle beauty. Their castles and cities are sculpted within the mountains themselves and exist in harmony with it.

Frostell is an icy, cold planet with tundra’s, snow covered mountains and areas. Don’t ask me what their castle looks like. I don’t know, okay? Actually, I’ve decided just now their castle is a massive floating iceberg that drifts through the sea currents because thats tight ok.

Quara is an ocean covered planet of archipelago’s and islands, with a vibrant sea life. Hundreds of small islands scattered about, massive stretches of open water, and a sprawling, living coral castle. A lot of floating structures in their cities, and small island establishments.

Who lives in your world?

The main dominant species of Luxora are undoubtedly humans and dragons.

I’ve been going heavily back and forth on the details but I do know both species are prominent within the culture and history of the universe.

The Dragons are not all like the ‘traditional’ dragons but rather vary from planet to planet and have adapted uniquely to the geography.

In addition to humans and dragons, there also exists ‘Apex’ versions of ordinary mammals. Basically, riding/horse sized versions of animals that act as the main sorts of ‘mounts’ you’d see, and are decently common. You’ll see people riding bears, elk, lizards, wolves and badgers and so on.

Those are the primary species, and you’ll also find the usual sort of animals as well, and flora and fauna.

I also created something called a frost scorpion because why not? I guess they look like large furry scorpions. :V

4. What’s its history? (How did it come to be?)

On paper, it was a typical Earth world, until a technological revolution allowed for many new technologies such as sapient AI, animal uplifting, terraforming, and faster than light travel and messaging, allowing humanity to expand to the stars. Society reached a utopian state, and all was peaceful until the Earthlings were discovered by the Pact, who attacked and locked the two into war.

But the far more distant past, which I learned from... particular sources, is another story.

Once, the world was divided into realms, each inhabited by their own gods in their own mythoses, the separate realms allowing them not to contradict each other. That changed when a mysterious cataclysm caused the realms to collapse into each other, creating a mundane human world, and causing many of the fantastical creatures to dissapear, with the gods themselves being some of the only survivors, their powers greatly reduced. They hung around ineffectually for a few millennia before going into hiding in pocket dimensions that were pale imitations of their old realms, defeated.

Only for the Pact war to be a dire enough threat to humanity to summon them back, but scattered across the far reaches of terraformed space. Now they must reunite and figure out what is really going on with this future world.

long post incoming, sorry. for this one, keep an eye out for links—i tried to link some art when relevant!

27af2d3001aa05f2d4cecabfa1e7d1ab.jpg

i think this area is where my world is most lacking at the moment, and it's where i'd like to improve most over the next couple years. i have some ideas, but haven't spent a lot of time fleshing them out yet. from the time i first started this project up until a couple months ago, there were three main groups in auspice—the derrish, the sifa, and the "marshlanders." however, i feel now that just splitting the world population into three groups is a little bit boring and shallow, so i'm trying to expand on that a bit. alas, i still have most of my work ahead of me there.

i think i will stick by those three groups as being the main three ethnic groups on auspice. i'll start with the derrish. the most recent off-world immigrants to auspice, the derrish are a hierarchical, warlike, culturally unified people. they enjoy racing on bird-back, and are competent civil and agricultural engineers. their militant, xenophobic nature has prevented them from significantly intermixing or syncretizing with the other inhabitants of the world. in short, they're probably the closest to the classic, western european archetype that dominates the fantasy genre. although their society is more hierarchical than others on auspice, leadership is never a given among the derrish; while heritage and lineage is respected to some extent, combat prowess and leadership prevails above all. a reigning warlord or ruler perceived to be weak or incompetent is likely to become the target of a coup by some other ambitious warlord. as a result, the political structures in derriland are highly dynamic and ever-shifting. this dynamic doesn't offer many opportunities to the peasant class, of course—personal mettle and combat ability are great, but they must be backed up with an army, after all. however, peasants may still climb the rungs of the social ladder through military service.

you might notice that the land around derriland is pretty balkanized. unfortunately, this is because the land that the derrish carved out as their own was not empty when they arrived there. the people who once inhabited the derrish subcontinent and the surrounding areas were displaced during the derrish conquest, and pushed out to the borders of the kingdom. removed from their ancestral homes, weakened from years of resistance, and agitated by being forced to live alongside cultural strangers, this diverse group of people are referred to monolithically as "marshlanders" by the derrish. in reality, the marshlanders comprise quite a few distinct cultural and linguistic groups. most of the coastal tribes are unparalleled experts at fishing, whereas the inland tribes sustain themselves on cultivated grain, supplemented by meat hunted from large birds. more than perhaps any other group in auspice, the marshlanders are deeply in touch with the lands they inhabit, and have advanced knowledge of the medicinal uses of their local flora. their spirituality is unique, although that's a topic for another day. though they have formed powerful empires in the past, in the present the marshlander people are scattered among myriad ununified tribes, many of whom are just as alien to one another as the derrish. however, the derrish threat has formed unusual federations and alliances where there had once been animosity and strife, and as time wears on, the anti-derrish fervor and military organization of the border tribes grows, and their advances on the derrish border are becoming increasingly difficult to beat back. some say a full-scale war is on the horizon.

finally, the sifa. the sifa are originally the nomadic inhabitants of the Great Desert, and adherents to the Qahnic Order (more on that another time). though the desert is all but uninhabited now, save for a handful of faithful Qahnic heralds holding out the last vestiges of their faith, it is the cultural home of the sifa people. in modern times, they have gone on to intermix with the natives of the western peninsula, and have formed quite the handful of squabbling nationstates. the peninsulas' coasts and islands are mostly lined with mercantile republics, whereas the more inland areas are filled with agrarian states, many of them socialist. the mercantile and agrarian states support one another through robust trade, though diplomacy between the dozens of states in the region is infamously complex, petty, and arbitrary. far from a unified people, most sifa view themselves as citizens of their cities more than they do as sifa. regardless, many of the world's greatest thinkers are of sifa descent, and though they are far from a unified people, their naval preeminence cannot be denied. increasingly, derrish lords send their heirs to be educated at sifa institutions, though the more conservative among them view this as a gross deviation.

that's most of the people living in auspice (whew!) although there are others as well that i should mention—a race of giants populates the area to the east including gargan (basically bigfoots tbh), and the northern region of alcia is sparsely inhabited by relatives of the marshlanders. the sagewood is also populated by a species of huge, sapient parrots, some of whom play host to a colony of derrish and marshlander exiles who have found a new home deep within the rainforest.

Howdy hey! Finally hopping in here! I'll be sharing some things from an original story I've been creating for a long time. There's still soooo many holes in the worldbuilding though, so this will be quite an exercise for me, haha.

Well my world doesn't have a name, so...LOL. What a strong start. We'll call it Fen for now, as that's the name of the main city much of the story takes place in.

Imagine the Pokemon world, but with mythical creatures, and instead of battling, they live in harmony with humans and help one another live. Normal animals exist here, too, but they are much more intelligent and sentient than those in our world. (Again, much like Pokemon.) These creatures are very much integrated into society and are regarded as equals to humans.

Fen is connected to our world, because the inhabitants of Fen, including all the creatures, once lived on Earth, too. But war and greed drove a rift between humans and creatures, and they were forced to flee to Fen to avoid extinction.

TLDR: Pretty typical fantasy medieval world but with lots of mythical creatures integrated into society.

I have about five nations so far--I may create more, we'll see.

We have Felir, the largest and most prosperous nation. It is mountain and forests for the most part. Its capital, Fen, is both the largest city and trading hotspot in the world, both due to its prestige as the Lightbringer's home (more on that later) and because it is conveniently located right on the coast, nestled up against the mountains. It is well fortified and in a perfect location for trade by boat.

Pandala is to the east of Felir, and is mostly open plains with a few forests.

Gandaara is south and is a desert nation.

I have two island chains, one to the north and inspired by Ireland, and another to the south. I don't have names for them yet.

Many mythical creatures live side by side with humans in this world. You've got your typical creatures like dragons, unicorns, pegasi, griffins, pheonixes, and then you have a few other species that I've created. I'm still working on fleshing out all of the species, honestly.

Some species are more social than others. Dragons, unicorns and phoenixes are the most powerful species of all of them, and there are few. Dragons prefer to be solitary or with a mate, Phoenixes are evasive and rarely seen, and unicorns keep to themselves in their groups. Other creatures settle into society with the humans, albeit in their own way. Some live in the city, others still prefer to live in the wild.

The people themselves are pretty varied as well! Sadly I haven't spent much time developing their cultures and traditions yet.

I'm just gonna copy and paste what I threw in the discord because I'm lazy and dont want to type it up all over again. (What? A writer avoiding writing? That's never been heard of before.)

Thousands of years ago mythical creatures and humans lived together peacefully, had kind of a symbiotic relationship. (Kinda like Pokémon, but no battle culture or anything).

Eventually, though, poaching starts to become a widespread phenomenon, and parts of these creatures become valued for money. Some participate out of greed, others out of need for survival/provide for their families. (This is a very watered down version, I know it sounds basic but I’m just giving the Sparknotes version.)

The most powerful species of these mythical creatures were: unicorns, dragons, and phoenixes. Eventually an all out war breaks out, between those who want to protect the creatures and those who want to exploit them. It gets to the point where there is nowhere the creatures can turn to for safety, and thus: the most powerful of them band together and create a new world in which they and the other humans flee to and begin anew in peace. That new world becomes the setting for the story.

The old world is Earth. Time passes and it becomes the world we have today. Modern technology and whatnot, where mythical creatures are only things of fairy tales.

When the new world was created, the Phoenix, dragon and unicorn that helped create it decided to share their powers with a human—this human had been the leader and main defender of their side of the war. So the three creatures combine their powers into an Orb and gift it to him, blessing him with the ability to use various aspects of their power through this Orb. Thanks to their blessing, only he and his bloodline are capable of this power. He and his descendants are called Lightbringers.

And that is the very simplified story of how (insert world's name here) came to be!

Earthling civilization extends through the far reaches of space now, with futuristic stations and skyscrapers being the norm. Newly terraformed worlds start smaller and quieter in this regard, however.

Little is known about Pact worlds from a Earthling perspective, but what is known is it varies wildly depending on the Pact species, from waterproof technology hubs for Dorm-Syrnta to large training temples for Sqaaalk.

Earthlings seem to have grown much more open-minded about it than normal at the point of time this timeline seems to be in. Many people are openly gay, lesbian, bi, pan, trans, nonbiinary, ace, and many more and seem to meet little resistance. AI tend to more likely be non-binary.

The aliens of the Pact all have bizarrely different gender identies from humans and their kin, and get immensely insulted if any human gender identity gets thrust upon them.

7. How does the economy work in your world?

Earthling societies, while not totally socialist, seem to have moved in a more soocialist direction Large amounts of pro-social movements have occurred and apparently been actually successful and corporations theoretically exist on a much smaller scale on a much tighter leash.

The Pact's alien economies have all been subsumed by one hypercapitalistic economy where all profits are funneled to the continuing expansion of the Pact. Nevertheless the average Pact resident at least seems to be eager to contribute.

4. What are some major events in the history of your world?

The biggest non-canon historical events established in TQftL are the two times there was a portal between the Pokémon world and the animal world, i.e. ours. The ancestors of Pokémon world humans came there thousands of years ago through a naturally occurring portal from the animal world; the Pokémon world was inhabited only by Pokémon at the time. Much later, 874 years before the start of the fic, Pokémon world scientists managed to discover the existence of the animal world, and eventually create an artificial portal to it, reestablishing cultural exchange between the two worlds. This is why Pokémon world humans are so similar to our humans. This is also why the Pokémon world has mundane animals, imported from our world. However, they are very rare and exist mostly in captivity.

The animal world, unfortunately, was later destroyed in an all-out nuclear war, though millions of refugees managed to escape to the utopian Pokémon world before everything went boom. My fourteen-year-old self's worldbuilding was something. I have doubts that I will keep all of this in the vague future QftL rewrite; the animal world, probably, but I doubt I will include the edgy nuclear war.

Historical events in the Morphicverse are something I'd like to keep vague for the most part. The creation of the Pokémorphs, ten years before the bulk of the story, is pretty major international news but hardly a historical watershed moment. Probably the most interesting actual set-in-stone history is that they have a version of Christianity, so something vaguely resembling the basic history of Christianity happened (and thus also Judaism, although at least in the current version of the story it doesn't exactly come up).

5. Who are some famous people and pokémon in your world?

The QftLverse has characters from the games and anime exist - notably, Ash Ketchum, who is thirty-seven years old, has a fifteen-year-old son named Alan with an unnamed wife, and is an international celebrity known to have encountered a ton of legendary Pokémon, etc. I kind of doubt he will actually appear on-screen in the QftL rewrite (but his son is a major character), but he's in a couple chapters of the current version along with his Pikachu, and a couple other Pokémon he's had in the anime get namedropped (with some of the leads' Pokémon being related to them for no good reason; another element likely to be excised from the next revision).

The gym leaders of the Ouen region, of course, are well-known there; they are:

- Rick, emotionally unstable orphan who clones and mind-controls legendary Pokémon to fight children with them (I was incredibly twelve)
- Christopher, absolute nothing of a Steel-type gym leader with a shiny Scizor and a "mirrors and blinding light so nobody can see anything" gimmick
- Mitch, mysterious cape-wearing expert on poisons found half-dead in a desert after a Pokémon sting that should have killed him
- Marge, elegant Hoennian double battle Water-type lover
- Flora, ill-tempered Grass-type user who is dying to inform you that her name is a coincidence and she despises perfumes
- Sparky, resolutely cheerful orphan Electric-type specialist and restaurant owner who is dying to host your birthday party and is besties with his town's Nurse Joy
- Carl, ruthless intimidating resolute skeptic and Fire-type user who thinks Pokémon battles belong in natural environments, i.e. down in the crater of an active volcano
- Diana, descendant of her city's legendary Flying-type user hero Danielle Acaria, who crudely converted the Flying-type gym to a Dark-type one with a maze puzzle in her edgy teenage rebellion

Also, a Hitmonchan known as Fury is the world's first Pokémon with a trainer license as his own trainer, who then becomes an author writing about his experiences. Most Pokémon think he's pretty weird for wanting to do all the weird human stuff.

Most of the Morphicverse's public figures are once again left ambiguous, but the ones that have some relevance to the fic are:

- David Ambrose, geneticist, outspoken atheist provocateur and the main genius behind the Pokémorphs, who is also a deeply miserable alcoholic trashfire of a human being.
- The [Church of Holy Truth] (to be renamed in the rewrite), an extremist family cult of the Westboro Baptist Church variety; they do stuff like picketing funerals or protesting in front of the Pokémorphs' personal homes. Has been led by the same patriarch (not yet named) for most of its existence, before his equally fanatical son Isaac takes over shortly before the main bulk of the story. He is supported by his younger brother Jacob, who is more withdrawn and cynical and is a Psychic Pokémon trainer. They are both pretty screwed-up people in different ways thanks to the whole raised in a toxic abusive cult thing. (They are getting a lot more development in the rewrite than they got in the original).

6. What do pokémon families and relationships look like in your world?

In the QftLverse, that depends heavily on the Pokémon species; they all have their own different cultures, many of them very offputting to humans.

The most developed Pokémon culture in the fic is that of Scyther, who live in swarms of a few dozen individuals. They don't really have a concept of a family, but they do have a concept of a mother and father who are simply two individuals who take formal responsibility for ensuring a hatchling is fed and safe, usually but not always the biological parents. They have some pair-bonding instincts but a philosophy that largely revolves around suppressing such feelings, and either way don't really do jealousy or exclusivity.

Meanwhile, the Letaligon (a fakemon) are ruled by shinies, who have a segregation distorter gene that makes all of their offspring shiny; the shiny leader of a herd basically has absolute authority over everything, an overriding choice of mate, and their shiny children must either leave the herd to found their own or challenge their parent in a fight. It's pretty horrible and dystopian.

Many other Pokémon, though, just have cute healthy relationships and families. I promise.

In the Morphicverse, Pokémon are animalistic and largely behave similarly to their animal counterparts. People breed them, they don't really care.

7. How do money and the economy work in your world?

In the QftLverse, essential trainer services are free and provided by the government, and common supplies are cheap and subsidized. As training is practically a rite of passage, it's socially very important for it to be accessible to all kids once they turn ten, should they and their parents wish to. Human health care is also free and considered a right. By the time of the fic trainer gadgets have basically all been combined into one in the Pokédex, which also functions as a credit card and ID.

In general, human society in this world is fairly utopian, has a strong welfare system and minimal poverty. The deuteragonist is from a poor family, but they weren't starving or struggling with basic needs, just had to budget carefully.

Pokémon don't use money or have an economy. Some species probably do trading and bartering to some degree, but for the most part Pokémon think money is a weird human thing and don't care or think about it. There's nothing in principle stopping a Pokémon from owning money (Fury the Hitmonchan does), but in general they just aren't interested. Leave the humans' weird human things to the humans.

The Morphicverse is once again just a close real-world analogue, and the Poké-US is heavily capitalist like the real US. Training supplies and training in general is subsidized to a significant degree to make it affordable for the median family, but there are definitely many families that can't afford it, which is Just Too Bad :unquag:

8. Who rules in your world?

Earthlings are ruled by one democratic council with representatives of all their component species and races. Different planets and countries have successively smaller similar councils.

Who rules and directs The Pact is shrouded in mystery. They make many mysterious allusions to The Darkness in their contacts with earthlings but would rather die than explain.

9. What religion and cosmology exists in your world?

Religion seems to be entirely absent. There are rules and regulations relating to it but its absence otherwise appears to be that the populace has moved on from it, and even on a mythological sense most of it looks to be forgotten by the populace. This annoys the summoned-back gods I met to no end, as it interferes with their quest and makes it feel futile.

The Pact only ever refers to The Darkness as a thing they worship, and once again refuses to give further details - save that they regard whatever it is with as much fear as reverence.

- Tell us about your world.

So I was figuring out how to answer this one. Instead, I'm going to talk about my inspirations for my world, since there will be plenty of talking about my world when the time comes.

My metaseries: Nori Carino: Pokemon Rehabilitator (and Prema Kannagi: Future Priestess) has its origins in two other fics. The first and foremost is the Pokemon fic of my best friend, Pokemon: A Marvelous Journey. It's a retelling of the GSC plot using original characters. The Red Gyarados arc was handled very differently instead of being 'hey here's this shiny pokemon! ignore the fact that it has a probably traumatic backstory, it's all yours'. A rude anonoymous review told her exactly what the characters should've done instead of what they did. One of those moral types, you know?

So I got to thinking, what if they did? It was not going to go well. So I quickly drafted a plot in my mind and decided to actually write it out. I came up with the concept of a character who is between the child and adult worlds, ultimately using an actual child in the adult world since that's no stranger to Pokemon and they could become directly involved. Over the course of it, I found hey, I liked this charcter, why not do more? So I added bits of backstory and things as I went along. Some of it changed or got patched from the original incarnation. My friend loved it, as did a couple others as well.

Now obviously when it came time to actually write the original fic, I had to have mine similar given the heavy basis in some of the laws. It's still a world where kids can go on journeys and accomplish fantastic things. But like that, it has some realistic and grittier elements to it. One key example is the concept of the blacklist - a list of people not legally allowed to own Pokemon. Law and helping Pokemon plays a key role in the fic.

The other big part comes from religion, tying into the other main character, Prema Kannagi! I generally hate how it's handled in fics. So I work to defy that!

#####

- Religion and Faith?

Given that Prema Kannagi is a priestess, religion plays a moderate role in my metaseries.

No, Arceus is not the Judeo-Christian God, stop treating it like it is and using unsnappy phrases like "Oh my Arceus". In fact if you really want to get technical, all these legendary names that are easily accessible for us often aren't in-universe: like how Arceus is usually called The Original One. What really set it off my inspiration though was back in the day in Bulbagarden, where I had to read a PMD fic with heavy religious elements. I uh, hated it. Not for the PMD elements either (although it was heavy furry, which I don't like), and I generally don't ever hate things. I'll spare the details, but in short, God is going to destroy the world and it's His right, and His side are presented as the heroes. Yeah. It's pretty effed.

So there are three focus religions in the world of Nori and Prema.

- Kannagi Shrine: Roughly analogous to pure Shinto.
- Mitsutri Shrine: Their counterpart is more like the Buddhism/Shinto mix seem in modern Japan
- Ceutholism: A rough analogue to Catholism and more extreme Christianity variants

Others are implied to exist. I apparently had Deuthism earmarked in a document, but I'd probably change the name at least. If so, it'd be what you typically see in Pokemon fics in all but name - a rough Christianity/Protestant/etc. analogue. And not using Arceus, because one detail: the actual name of the thing isn't well known in canon, at least possibly until Legends Arceus, but I have Plans for handling that if need be.

So Prema Kannagi and her heavy Shinto-inspired shrine play a major role in the fic as well - and unlike those in that fic, she at no point forces her religion on others.

Another big thing I do is not turn the entire Legendary base into a huge pantheon as one. In fact, the assessment of some that some Legendaries are just really really strong Pokemon isn't incorrect - still might stop some from worshipping them. Notable ones that are explicitly aren't include the birds, the gerbils, the Regis besides Gigas, the muskedeers, Mahaphione, Lugia, Lati@s, Heatran, Meoletta, Genesect, Diancie, Volcarona, Marshadow, Zeraora, and Kubfu's line. Zacian/Zamzenta's legend was lost, but are more analogous to humans who were blessed by the gods.

Ones in limbo include Mewtwo/Silvally/Magearna (artificial gods or copies of gods), Deoxys/The Taos/Necrozma/Eternatus (possible foreign gods), Rayquaza (status unknown, appeared in history much later than G and K, possible mutated Golduck), Xerneas/Yveltal (local deities in some places, but most consider Ho-Oh the deity of the cycle of life), the horses (arahitogami), and Jirachi (there's something about it, but no one can agree what, and it's not in any pantheon)

Local and minor deities are Celebi, Victini, Shaymin, Kamis, the Tapus, and Solgaleo/Lunala. The Kannagis and Mitsutris both consider them

Major deities recognized in polytheistic religions include Ho-Oh (god of the cycle of life), Kyogre (god of rain), Groudon (god of the sun), Cresselia/Darkrai (gods of the dream world), the Lake Gods (essences of soul), the dimensional jewels (gods of matter and material), and Calyrex (a King of Pokemon)

That brings us to the remaining four. Polytheistic faiths such as the Kannagi Clan have special views on these.

- Arceus: Some monotheistic faiths consider this to be a form that the Lord takes to be seen by humanity. Other polytheistic faiths consider it the Original One itself. Others consider it to be the Avatar of the Original One, just one of many pieces of it. One thing is clear and to reiterate: its name isn't well known. CEU was uncovered on an old plate, leading to the Ceutholoism name.
- Mew: It's in an interesting spot. Its ability to use any move is well-documented, and scientific evidence pointed to a common biological thread between it and all Pokemon. Considered the Mind of the Original One because of it.
- Regigigas: The Arm of the Original One. In certain faiths it's believed to be the one that shaped the world. Regieleki and Regidraco came later than the others - believed gifts that represent the power of man and the power of Pokemon.
- Zygarde: The Eyes of the Original One. There's something about them. Believed to be observing the world.

Now, I've only crafted as much as I needed on the religions, which is mostly the Kannagi Shrine. I mentioned the Mitsutri Shrine a couple times too. There's a key difference between them. The Kannagi clan used faith as a way to teach lessons about how one should act, whereas the Mitsutri clan focused on faith itself and accepting these Pokemon. Both however, view all Pokemon as equal: from mere Starlys to Mew itself.

Their ancestors and founders of the shrines were notable for those who helped link humanity and very powerful Pokemon that were called Legendary together. The Kannagi founders in particular made bonds with the Lake Gods, and their original names even came from the founders.

By the time the fic starts, the Kannagi Shrine has been losing prominence. The only two direct descendants who remain are Haruto Kannagi and Prema Kannagi. While they have strong links with the town of Celestic (where the town gets its name from), the move to free religion thanks to the Mitsutri's actions in World War II, scientific advancements (that notably killed Lugia's Legendary status), and nonexclusivity has been hurting thme. Haruto decides to do something none of his family have considered - moving out of Celestic.

So yeah. Might be a bit disorganized, but that's a big chunk of it. Finally, I'll close on a teaser. Don't believe everything you see that is written.

- What's the geography of your world/region?
The main setting of Nori/Prema is Sinnoh. This wasn't so much a choice of favoritism from me. As I was developing Nori, I thought, why would he be in Johto? The answer was travel. But a key point of his character was not being interested in Pokemon at first. So a vacation. But he wouldn't take one? How about a mandatory vacation? So why would he pick Johto? Because it's the closest he could get to home.

More specifically, this is a Sinnoh set several years before the events of DPP - linear timeline Adventures-style and such. Like in many fics, I heavily expand the geography of the canon reason - although it is still pretty much Sinnoh. Unlike many fics, and given how there's little travel to be done, I heavily focus on the towns and cities that serve as the settings. For example, Sunyshore has an observatory. But Veilstone is the primary setting/"home base". Here's some major places in it.

- Veilstone City Trailer Park: Located on the east central side of town. This is where Nori grew up with his single mother.
- The New Kannagi Shrine: The main branch was moved here from its native Celestic, at the site of the old WGPR building in the northeast - which moved to Hearthome to reach a wider broadcast audience.
- The Row: A series of tiny homes built by the Officials. Some of their operatives are housed in here.
- Veilstone Mall: Towering over the city near its center, the mall is your one-stop shop for just about anything you could want in Veilstone. Parking is a nightmare however, and the other thing is, it sees a lot of out-of-towners due to having imported goods hard to find anywhere else in Sinnoh.
- Hotel Stefilia and the Staraptor's Eye: Two locally-run hotels for out-of-towners. The former has a better cost and reputation
- The "Rich People District": As Nori sometimes calls it. Most of the wealthier citizens live in the north end of town.
- FIlm Studios: Veilstone City has a movie studio, haven't fleshed it out enough yet to even give it a name.
- Rolling Hills: A place for moderately wealthy citizens, near the south central part of town. Called as such because they're on a higher elevation.
- The Industrial District: A colloquial name for the northwest side of town. It's home to the city's power plant, several warehouses owned by private and public, and the docks - one of the major outlets of goods to and from Batalson Island. Factories are on the far left.
- Gabbron Park: A small park within walking distance of the trailer park
- Asweil Park: A larger park in the north-central part. Has sports fields, for example.
- Kon's Konbini: A chain of convenience stores. There's several in the city.
- Mynwest Court: A battle arena chain that has its origins in Mexico and the Southern US. Gets its name from its creator, and because you go there to get judged in battling. A to the point place where you go to battle, no BS, no arenas full of screaming fans. Simply rooms to battle, places to meet trainers, and places to watch battle in.
- Veilstone Airport: In addition to a sea outlet, the city has a small airport somewhere in the central west of town.
- The Game Corner: A family-friendly place where kids and adults alike can play fun games and win fabulous prizes. More like a cross between an arcade/games-for-tokens place and a casino. It's run by Gasha Qian, who is also the Leader of the....
- Veilstone Gym: ...where she is known the "Toxic Gambling Lady". As her title suggests, she's a Poison-type leader whose ace is a Skuntank. She is also an accomplished Coordinator and rival to Fantina. Battles here are a spectacle you have to see to believe, and the battlefield is something analogous to a city street.

That said, one big thing: real-world countries exist, but they're divided into Pokemon World regions.

#####

That's enough of a dump for now, but the three biggest ones answered. Probably give a big part of Nori's part in things/the legal end later.
