A brief weightlessness befell Brisa and Dave, and then they landed on something smooth and vaguely warm. Everywhere around them was a dark void mixed with small specks of bright lights, like stars without anything like an atmosphere or fires to obscure them. Their platform was a Hydreigon far larger than it should be, though he wasn't made of flesh, bone, and scales, but looked more like a hollow outline of stars and glass.

"Safe landing?" Buffet asked, and the white lines that made up his mouth curled into a smile. His eyes, once black and red, were now hollow with two pinprick stars for pupils. "Welcome to Spirits' Edge, dears. A bridge between the world you're familiar with and the next. Don't fall! It's not very easy to come back. How are you two feeling?"

All things considered, Cal wasn't expecting to become a ball of light when she'd gone to Spirits' Edge. Buffet, too, seemed a little surprised, and remarked that they looked very much like newborn spirits waiting to break out into the world. Something about that excited her, and he became a little protective over them as they flew through the aether.

After some time, Cal figured out how to re-form her body from its core of light. Constellations entwined themselves until they resembled arms and legs and her tail, ending in little lines that looked like her claws. A gnarled set of stars simulated her flame, and two brighter, tinier stars made up her pupils.

"With any luck, we'll find a faux-material plane so you can form your bodies properly," the starry Hydreigon said. "It might be a bit of a flight, Luz. Keep close."

Koa moved with a heaviness in his step, fur prickling as he thought of what he had to do. Echo was off wherever he liked to go when he wasn’t with Koa, which was good. He wanted the solitude for once.

    Or maybe he deserved it.

Blinking the thoughts aside, he focused ahead. Icetales had said he was out here. For some reason. He wasn’t exactly sure why he’d be out here, but it didn’t matter, did it?

After a minute, he spotted the Ninetales. The sight of him caused fresh guilt to claw at Koa’s throat. He still remembered the look on his face when Icetales had found out. What they’d done. What he’d done.

You’re hurting everyone, and destroying the team. They were better off without you.

Even if everyone on the team hated him, Koa couldn’t bear the idea of not at least apologizing to Icetales. He’d been one of Koa’s first friends when he’d arrived. He had to say something.

“Hey Icetales,” he said, walking up. Despite his attempts to sound neutral, his voice came out strained. He looked up at him, but didn’t quite make eye contact.

"Now, are you sure about this?" said Buffet, starry as usual across the astral plane, as his main head glanced back at Dave on his back. "I think I'll be able to find him, but... there's no telling if he'll respond. Or if he'll react well to what you're saying at all..."

Something about this portion of Spirits' Edge seemed... sinister. Like they were getting close to something that wasn't supposed to be...

Saltriv stood on Buffet's back, leaf swaying idly back and forth.

It's been so long, and they're so different now...would Gen even recognize them?

Even so, they were excited. It's been so long since they've seen the little nervous Oshawott. With what they know now, maybe they can help recover his memories!

"I can't wait to introduce you to Gen," Saltriv says, looking towards their companions.
