Etymology

The name Eeris comes from the Latin saying 'montani semper liberi' which means "mountaineers are always free".

Design concept

Eeris is based on West Virginia, a state in the United States of America. (Most people know this state for Fallout 76 and Country Roads). The region is turned counterclockwise (like Kyushu and Hoenn) to allow more freedom to explore.

Towns and cities

All major towns/cities are named after terms relating to geology (since WV's main source of economy is coal mining).

Bituminous Town and Ligmite Town: The starting towns, depending on which version the player picks. Northern players start in Bituminous while Southern players start in Ligmite.

The following cities contain gyms:

Asphalt City (Normal)
Resin City (Rock)
Macadam City (Ground)
Conglomerate City (Steel)
Gneiss City (Water)
Anthracite City (Fire)
Sediment City (Grass)
Sulfur City (Electric)

Fluegass City (based on WV's capitol, Charleston) is home to the Elite Four and Champion. However, the Champion is hiding a deep secret that not even the player will know.

Eeris Features

The villainous teams of this region are called Team River and Team Moss. Their inspiration comes from the infamous Hatfield-McCoy feud. While both are antagonistic to the player and their friends, in North, River are the ones who summon one of the "cryptic duo" legendaries. In South, Moss is the one who summons them.

Professor Rhodney Dendron (named after rhododendrons, WV's state flower) is the regional professor, and he studies regional variants and convergent Pokémon. He will gift the player one of three starters:
- the calm grass-type Cub Pokémon, Cubloom (based on bears, since WV's state mammal is the North American black bear)
- the stubborn fire-type Ram Pokémon, Flambeat (based on a mix of rams/mules)
- the energetic water-type Mouse Pokémon, Mousqueal (based on muskrats)

Once you pick a starter, Champion Charum (named after acer saccharum, the sugar maple aka WV's state tree) will adopt the starter with a type advantage against yours while Rhodney takes in the last starter.

Each final form of the Eeris starters are based on elements of WV culture. Cubloom's final evolution, Taniorso, is based on the logging industry. Flambeat's final evolution, Ovignition, is based on coal mining. Mousqueal's final evolution, Rattoneer, is based on mountaineering.

Eeris Features, Part 2

The food mechanic of Eeris is..... cocktails, based on WV's history of moonshine. Mixing drinks with your Pokémon will both increase their friendship and Exp. Points. Several items can even attract wild Pokémon. For example, a cinnamon drink will increase the chances of Fire-types appearing while Dragon-types much prefer their apples. Its' even rumored that several Pokémon evolve if you mix the right cocktails.

Several new evolution items appear, both for new and old Pokémon. One of these is known as the Hisui Stone, an item imported from Sinnoh the player can buy at speciality stores. This strange item helps Pokémon like Rufflet, Dewott and Ursaring evolve into their Hisuian evolutions.

Legendaries

The mascot legendaries, Kitamothu (kita (Japanese for north) and moth) and Minawoodsu (mina (Japanese for south) and woods) play a big role in the Eeris plot. Based on the cryptids Mothman and Flatwoods Monster, these mysterious creatures hold a dark secret. Their typings are Bug/Dark and Ghost/Flying. Their collective name is the "cryptid duo".
