"Yeah!" Owen said, waving goodbye once Cabot started to leave. Instead, he settled on setting up his bed early--he had been awake for longer than they all had, after all--and decided to get some early meditating done. He didn't really know why he settled on meditation so automatically... Maybe it was an old habit bubbling up.

Setting his bedding down, and making sure it was fire-resistant, he closed his eyes and steadied his breathing, doing what he could to ignore the tremors in the ground and the other noise around him...

The eager Charmander led the way to the private quarters which, for some, was the first time. "Beds are there, water's there, but all the food is right here! Oh! And look!" Owen pulled out a large pot and some fire-making material. "We can even set up a little campfire to do the cooking! And we've even got a fire starter, too." He didn't point at anything in particular then; he was likely referring to himself.

He wasn't usually the one to do the cooking, because a lot of it seemed foreign to him... but he could at least try to make something basic! "Now, to find some ingredients..."

There were a lot of bags to look through, and not all of them were properly labeled.

"Right, let's look around to see what we can make with these berries," Cabot said as he opened up one of the bags. "Though I think there's also enough gummis here to satisfy everyone."

"Hmm," said Ashwood, studying all the bags of food. They cocked their head, trying to gauge if they were hungry -- or could feel hunger -- or not. They had figured out they could slide their head back a bit, opening up a slot where their head met their body. They assumed it was for food or water, but normally they were a big eater. Looking over all this food -- even alien food -- would have summoned the hunger pangs if they were in their human body. But now... they didn't really feel anything.

They said to the others, "I don't know how any of this works since you Pokemon are all new to me, but tell me if I can help at all. I knew how to cook in my previous form, at least. Even over a fire a few times."

"Uh... yeah! I found one right here!" Cabot exclaimed as he pulled a Grass Gummi out of the bag. He walked over to Cynthian and handed it over to him.

"Oh, thanks, Cabot!" Cynthian threw the gummi straight to his mouth and smiled giddily while he savored the taste. "It's been a while since I had one of these. Good thing this world's tastes just as good."

"You're quite brave. I can't stand anywhere near active fires, so my mother handled all the cooking. I otherwise just drink water. Only need the nutrients anyway."

Ashwood chuckled. "Well, not that brave. Don't think I've ever been as flammable as you. And you don't need to eat? Is that, like, because you can do photosynthesis or something?"

Cynthian threw the gummi straight to his mouth and smiled giddily while he savored the taste. "It's been a while since I had one of these. Good thing this world's tastes just as good."

"Gummis... wait, I remember those! They're supposed to be good, right? As long as you eat the right kind. Do any of you know which would be good for me?"

"Sort of," Cynthian said. "I don't ever need to eat anything so long as I'm in a place with stream water and lots of sunshine. I don't know if I can say the same for every grass type though. Might be something that only happens in my world."

"Gummis... wait, I remember those! They're supposed to be good, right? As long as you eat the right kind. Do any of you know which would be good for me?"

Cynthian brought a flower to his chin to think. "Golett sentinels are ground and ghost type, right. If you're just like the ones I've seen, you should look to get the purple or brown ones."

"Cool, thanks!"

Ashwood looked through the bag Cabot had gotten that Cynthian's gummi from. It was full of jellybean-like food of all colors -- each color representing a different type. They dug through the bag. Purple or brown.

They found a brown gummi first. They held it in their palm and studied it. It didn't look like much. Brown jellybean -- what flavor would that be? Brown for Ground-type, so like dirt? Did Ground-types like the taste of dirt? But they remembered how happy the Pokemon in the PMD games were described as being when they got their favorite gummi, and they were a Pokemon now, so...

"Welp, here I go."

They shifted their head back, revealing a narrow opening from which dim yellow light emanated. They dropped the gummi into the opening. They could almost feel the gummi hit the swirl of energy that rotated in the center of their body, and --

"Ahh, that's good!!!" they said, dancing in place. The gummi dissolved when it touched the energy, and then melted into pure, delicious goodness. It was a completely different kind of taste than what Ashwood was used to; they weren't even sure they could call it taste. It stoked the energy inside of them, suddenly tinted their perceptions with a blur tinged with sweetness.

The sensation faded quickly, and Ashwood caught their lack of breath. (Caught their energy tick-tocking like a clock inside of them? They didn't know.) Strangely enough, as good as the sensation had been, they felt only extremely satisfied. They glanced back at the bag of gummis. Sure, they could go for another, but they didn't feel any pressing desire.

They wondered how their friends and family would react, seeing that they didn't particularly want to eat. Their mother would be thrilled.

"Oh, hey Absol. Haven't seen you around since we first got here. What have you been up to?"

"Oh, hey there!" Cabot greeted. "There's no meat here, but we have plenty of Gummis."

"Wait hold on, Cabot. I think there might be some meat in one of those bags over there. The Truffle bird mentioned them earlie, and that they were just substitutes." Cynthian casually grabbed another green gummi for himself. "Went on about how you can't tell it from the real thing."

Whatever those “gummies” where, they probably weren’t edible unless Diyem had made him into some sort of non-carnivorous Absol. Seeing as Diyem was yet to do anything helpful, Celeste doubted that was the case.

“Meat... substitutes?”

It was the best shot he had at food, anyways. He sniffed at some of the bags, hunting for one that smelled like meat.

He smelled one with some meat. He pulled it out and softly whispered a few sentences over it.

It was a jerky, and was more salty and chewy than his preferred fare, but he was hungry, and was in no position to complain. That was the price to pay for having it pre-prepared, without having to worry about rot.

“Not bad. Better than hunting, for sure.”

Cynthian stared at Celeste eating the jerky and wondered what it'd taste like to him. He chomped down another green gummi and dismissed the thought. He'd have been more willing if he was a Roserade though...

Well, that had been easy to find. Sitting there before Astrid were bags of food, ready to be eaten. And gummis! Those were a sight for sore eyes.

The sight of food—real, good looking food—dismissed any of her festering inhibitions. With a cheery “Hi!”, she gave the new faces a wave and went for the nearest apple.

"Oh, more mons are here... Wait, weren't we going to cook a meal or something? We probably shouldn't be filling ourselves up with the ingredients before then," Cynthian said, slowly putting back the next gummi he wanted to stuff himself with.
