"I'll get around to it" Idea Thread.

Anyone else ever have ideas for stories that you just know would only work long-form, but you know that you also don't have the time to write them? Or, alternatively, just shorter fics that you don't have time for and get burned out by working on your main one?
For me, I made a post on r/Pokemonfanfiction about a story I want to write where the main character guy journeys to make the best damn bread in the Kalos region, where his partner is a Foongus that's trained to make yeast for baking. And it's probably going to be really short if I do write it, but I'm looking at The Alchemist having one and a half scenes left for the next chapter that I need to finish and I'm not sure if I even have time to get started.
I guess what I'm saying is that I'm interested in hearing about the ideas other people have, even if they don't get followed up on.

1. WIP title "5 minutes"

basically a short story about a giant laser thing that happens every so often that instantly kills anyone outside. So, for example, if you're standing in an open field, you're dead. If you're outside but under an awning or something, you're safe. There would be a 5 minute warning beforehand every time this happens.


2. WIP title "Immortal VS Undying"

Someone who is immortal locked in a neverending war against someone who can die, but is always resurrected hours later, and with memories of previous deaths.


3. WIP title "jumanji but worse"

Exactly what it says. Basically just a copy of Jumanji 2016, but with OCs.

The only concepts I have for now is that, thematically, this would be akin to the Norse myth of Ragnarok, aka when the end of the world comes, all (most) deities die, and basically everything dies. (Of course, this would be placed at the end of the fic.) However, Ragnarok does have one thing that I quite enjoy (besides all the death and stuff lol): a small handful of gods are still alive after everyone else has died, and those living gods are then meant to try and rebuild the world!
In the context of this pmd fic, I'll be incorporating that idea through characters that are the vessels/incarnations of gods (those gods being Calyrex and Yveltal, in the forms of a Kadabra and Absol, respectively.)

• Of Swords and Sorcery: More a meme than anything. A journeyfic through medieval Kalos, starring an aspiring knight, a centuries old bard and the prince they saved. Along with an Honedge possessed by a former knight and the Sirfetch'd that used to be his squire, the gang explores the eight knightly virtues. Narrated by the immortal Sorcerer Sycamore, they try to rack up as many tropes and blatant DnD-references as possible.
• Hospice: A short-ish story about the dead, the living and the priest who guards the line between them. Or: A priest gets called to the bedside of an old man, suspecting ghosts to haunt the premise. Instead of ghosts, he only finds a long and complicated history. While he attends the dying man's final days of life, he is confronted with his own memories and wavering faith.

Oh lordy, I literally have a Google Doc with like 20 of these ideas floating around, ranging from oneshots to longer serial works. There's 3 "big commitment" ones in particular that aren't sequels/gaiden stories where I've actually bothered to make design documents for them beyond elevator pitches along with their working titles:

Land of Wolves - Being mainline Sinnohan bludoge in the wild is suffering / totally not the result of putting Watership Down and Plague Dogs in a blender. a.k.a. "Why can't I catch Riolu/Lucario in Sinnoh?" - the Xenofiction story. Mostly being cockblocked by bandwidth, deets of how Hisuimons are handled in the present day franchise canonically, and trying to figure out how to avoid DIAA narratively when the fundamental premise of the plot is following an annus horriblis to a wild bludoge pack that's been marginalized by drawing a raw deal for contact with humans relative to most other Pokémon species with a dash of "that's just nature, she's a harsh mistress".

World on Fire - Story of a Charizard 'M outbreak in Kanto originating from an accident at a laboratory run by the G(alarian )A(dvanced )M(edicine and )P(harmeceuticals) Corporation on Cinnabar Island right down the street from Cinnabar Mansion, which proceeds to spiral out of control across the region, mutate to affect more than just Pokémon (thanks, Bill!), and transform into a threat beyond the multiverse's wildest expectations. a.k.a. "Spiteful Murkrow tries to write a crackfic and take the piss out of zombie fiction". Hard cap of 24-26 chapters thanks to a specific chapter naming scheme I have in mind, organized along a 3 or 4 act structure. Mostly being cockblocked by bandwidth, though I'm hoping to experiment with a cour-based structure SOON™ to see if decomposing it into a series of short stories that build up on each other under a shared banner would make it viable to get it into something that could theoretically be completable one day without dropping anything I'm currently writing.

The Fifth Sun Ixiptla - An Original Setting PMD story with strong Aztec/Maya trappings, specifically of the "Mexico c. 1520" mold. a.k.a. "Spiteful Murkrow writes a PMD darkfic". It's more something that I’d like to see someone one day do than a priority goal of mine since even if playing "screw history, we're derailing it", it would take a lot of understudy to do this sort of setting and story justice in a manner respectful toward the cultures and related background it would evoke while not rose-tinting anything. It's being cockblocked by the aforementioned understudy, figuring out how to avoid DIAA since any setting involving Mesoamerican themes isn’t coated with buckets of sugar will by nature be ultra-dark (even if it's one of the few inherently dark premises that I feel actually works really well with Pokémon's canonically bright and colorful color palette), and "lol, you're already writing 2 PMD stories, write something from mainline before taking on a third one".

Well, since I'll probably use this to help check and remember some ideas, that and most of what I have are either works of my own or non-Pokémon fics. I know I have some ideas around that's related to my main fic's worlds and characters. So, here's some of mine that I'll probably get to.

Spoiler: Original Works Perhaps

[Don't have a title] - It'll be of two immortal organizations full of scientists hell-bent on researching everything there is to their multiverse. The main difference between the two groups is that one catches villains across several universes and experiments on them, and the other organization politely asks superheros and well-known entities for permission to research and experiment with their power while they heartily call the first group 'The group with no ethnics'. It'd be a collection of drabbles and short chapters where the this 'group with no ethnics' try to understand and uncover the secrets of their multiverse, with little pop-ins and pranks from the other group.

[The Themes of Sted and Fleur] - Basically the backstory of my two other characters, Briggs and Sarah. Features world-hopping, parental issues, sci-fi, fantasy and violence.

[The Crude Prune] - Will probably change the title. Contains a bit of spoilers for my character Crude and my main fic; So if you're planning on reading it, you should stop, like right now.

Spoilers! You should stop if you don't want to warp your perception of my character this early. You've been warned.

It'll talk about his creation and his unique ability to remember every reset the author has ever made (i.e Every rewrites, draft and etc). It will show him suffering from the knowledge of having his relationships potentially resetting and everyone's memories of him being removed. With the help of another character, he pushes through and plans to make every interaction work.

Spoiler: The worlds I'll use in my main fic.

Contains a bit of spoilers to 'Just a Normal Day' it's nothing too major though.

[The Tales of Corruption] - The history of Evie's world and the workings of the humans and their unique outlook on Pokémon.

[Tribal Disputes] - The aftermath of another world where it takes place a thousand years after humans became extinct and the creation of Pokémon society. This will be about two Pokémon tribes learning to coexist when Ultra Wormholes appear and Ultra Beasts start rampaging about.

There'll probably be more but I don't wanna go too into details with them yet.

Spoiler: Non Pokémon things

[A Marvel Fic] - As the title entails, it'll be a marvel fic of a girl named 'Jane Spleef' and her unique powers. Expect a lot of comic books like things, including but not limited to, the fear of using her powers, shocking twists, connections to my Origin-verse (what I usually call my main fic's universe) and various known superheroes and villains. I'll probably write this fic either this year or next year.

Spoiler: A PMD idea that I think will be interesting

[Not sure what title I'll give it] - So, the setting of this fic takes place after Explorers of Sky. It's a standard human with amnesia being dropped into the PMD. It'll contain most of the characters in my main fic because I like to think of this story as a What-if for that fic. So the main idea is that the human who has amnesia, will regain their memories as the story progresses and that these memories tell them that they've actually been a Pokémon before and had actually lived a life in the PMD world. I'm not sure what how to end this fic so I'm probably not gonna write, that and I know it'll be another massive project that I don't think I'll have time for.

I get *so many* fic ideas that I can't write them all. Like right now the idea I'm working through deals with the theory that the events of Conquest take place in modern day and Ransei is just really closed off. Basically, Arceus is pissed off at Ransei taking forever to get off its bullshit, so after a brief warning, it just plain obliterates the entire region. During the warning phase, Oichi had been sent away and now has to deal with life in the foreign Johto region, the few survivors settling in Ecruteak. She plots revenge with a local legendary specialist (haha one guess as to who), knowing full well she's almost certainly sending him to his death if they really do try to strike against Arceus.

Natural Harmonia - On his travels, N finds Arceus chillin' in a grove. They talk about stuff. Arceus apologises for the fact that N has had such a difficult life, but affirms that N has grown into somebody with a compassionate heart. They tell him that they granted a newborn human infant the mind of a pokemon, in the hopes that one day the child would act as a medium and ambassador between pokemon and humans. N gets told, for the first time in his life, by a (kind of) parental figure, that they're proud of him. Also: hug the wheel horse

Idea: An anthology series of sorts, chronicling the rise of Tobias, the infamous trainer from the D/P anime. It would show him as a young trainer, native to Galar. He dreams of greatness and glory, of standing apart in Galar's hyper competitive battling scene. he meets and bonds with a no-name, ordinary Impidimp/Moregrem, who also dreams of becoming stronger. This leads Tobias down a path to seek out the rarest, most unsual pokemon, and eventually, legendaries. I would love to focus on his journey, and show that despite what many say about him, he worked incredibly hard to get where he is, and isn't evil or anything.

I really want to do more Kalos stories in general.

Kalos stuff I can always get behind. I skipped right past the Gen 5 Renaissance and went straight to Gen 6 using speedrunning strats and because I don't think I could make a better story out of Gen 5 than Game Freak already did.

Cynthia is exploring the Relic Castle and falls into the Distortion World and can't find a way out. Days later, Cyrus finds her on the verge of death, and Giratina lets him leave so long as he doesn't leave her side. Thanks to how the DW works he's able to take her back to Sinnoh (I theorize that it has portals to basically everywhere), but now he's back in a land that gave him up for dead years ago. On the upside it makes going incognito easier since people think he just kinda LOOKS like the late Galactic boss, but on the other hand he's learning about how everything has changed since he's been gone.

Some highlights from the piles of doom...

Spoiler: Unkindness Seen by Light of Day

An old Tales Of Symphonia fanfic that deals with an OC clergyman, Father Sancrest, taking the main protagonist's place in the game, and the main character of Symphonia being absorbed into the morally grey Renegade faction of the game after basically being unwritten by circumstance, and the cast getting tossed into conflict with a very militant and political heavy-hitting villain who adores working in the background and has almost all the keys of ultimate power in his hands. The challenge walking in was can I write a Tales of Game where most of the cast are pacifists. And then I filled the bill with background reasons. Per religious obligations, Colette, the Chosen One and her mentor Sancrest took oaths of "do no harm" and thus can't fight without getting defrocked. Civilian and uninclined to fight Raine a young school teacher and her kid brother Genis are more refugees than anything else... And the original hero is so banged up from his abduction and back story he's literally disabled and can't handle weapons or heavy labor, and they all wind up mashed together due to a string of bad luck and start to realize that something is wrong, on a scale they can barely understand, and they might be the only people with the perspective and resources to do something about it.

Spoiler: untitiled PMD fic

A PMD fic that starts... after the quest is done and the Hero is tossed back into his homeworld... as a 'mon... Mew/Legend of choice not seeing an issue with leaving the kid as he is... and then walked up some unsuspecting trainer and hero finds himself on the battle circuit from the other side (I've also a version where the trainer is a Plasma grunt, a legitimate loyal to N's ideals not power-tripping type)

Spoiler: Tenth

A PMD story... that centers around the 'mon the adventures leave behind, the townies, the wildlings, how they deal with or don't deal with being in a world where ADVENTURE is the keyword and they just want to be left alone and not dragged off into insanity raising shenanigans. The world has the structural stability of jello because the ground-shifting reality-warping dungeons are bad, for everything and everyone, and can someone let us off, this is not the ride we signed up for.

The title is taken from the name of the main protagonist, a weedle cloth shop keep who was tenth hatched thus named tenth...

How do I summarize this, uh... Post-apocalypse conquest fic? Our world ends by the will of God/Arceus/multiversal shenanigans and Arceus's eighteen plates (Only just found out about the Legend Plate) are scattered across the world. Pokémon start springing up as forces of nature come into existence, Legendaries become real, and somehow the sun and moon are both in constant eclipse. Protagonist guy is possessed by the Draco Plate and given special abilities along with a divine mandate/will of Arceus and told to gather the Dragon Balls, I mean, uh, the plates, to unscrew the world. Also, a lot of people die in backstory, but in more of a "world without adults" kind of way than a "nuclear holocaust" kind of way. Xerneas and Yveltal suddenly existing would cause some problems.

I feel like my idea is a huge spoiler for my universe. But at the same time, it’s too good not to share.

I’m still in the plotting phase of it (and I’m not at the point where I need this fic yet), but I’ve got this idea for a twin set of fics to lead into Journey’s sequel.

First, it’s a Rocket Origin fic for my universe. told from Giovanni and Matori’s POV, it chronicles the rise of Rocket from its early days as a League Black Ops unit and transformation after Giovanni barely averts a legendary pokemon attack. It would follow various Rocket endeavours and end with the explosion on New Island and Mewtwo’s escape (The events that will lead to Rocket’s/Giovanni’s loss and his eventual defeat at the hands of Red and his allies).

Now, the twinfic into my sequel idea I had spawned when I began working on Pokemon: Legends Sinjoh (which has a multiverse-shattering event as part of the premise). I was going to mirror the fics and have them be almost identical up to a certain point (with some extremely small changes over the first few chapters). But, at the divergence point, instead of setbacks with Mewtwo’s development, he will instead have breakthroughs. This will lead to a timeline where Rainbow Rocket is formed and will lead into Journey’s sequel with Rainbow Rocket’s invasion and attempted conquest of the multiverse.

I know it’s ambitious as all hell, but I’m finding endless fun in the idea of crossing over with a million different IPs when I get around to this point (there’ll be a tease of this when PLS has its big end battle in the “void between worlds”, think of shit like God-Emperor Doom, WH40K Emperor risen from his throne, Ender Dragon, Morgoth if he had won in the 1st age, all the biggest and baddest god-tier entities duking it out for control). I’ve never once written a crossover, so this’ll be fun if I can actually stay committed to my Journey-Verse.
