Sundale was a dusty, quiet and hard-working town in the West. All the Pokemon worked together, strengthening their town. A Flygon with a hat of status- one with a wide-brimming star- was sitting on a bar’s outdoor chair, enjoying the peace. There wasn’t any crime today, at least to his knowledge yet, and it wasn’t like there was organized crime often anywho. He looked to the bank across his sight and watched as a pair of similar Pokemon walked in at the same time, wearing hoods. Meh, not too uncommon in this heat, but a bit sketchy. He walked to the middle of the street and looked both ways. This town was, like most towns of its nature, a line with buildings on each side, with a few exceptions outside what he called ‘the beam of economy’ affectionately.

The wall to the bank bursted open, an Espeon and Umbreon both clutching overfilled parcels in their maws. Hoods gone, they weren’t thinking of doing this discreetly. The Dark-type was a bit in front of the Espeon, and they both heard a stern “Hey!” from behind them. Spyra, the Espeon, looked ahead and quickly glanced across the scene, picking out her new target- a giant, long steel beam that was likely for a home, as it was in front of an unfinished house, but she spared the details. No time to think, weapon!

Spyra picked it up with her psychic abilities, as signaled by the glowing gem on her forehead.

The two communicated via psychic. While Dymen was Dark-type, he opened up his mind to Spyra’s calls.

“Watch out!” A pleasant voice called out in Dymen’s mind.

The beam was thrown behind the two running eeveelutions, with Dymen jumping over it with ease. She carried it above the ground to try and create a moving barrier between them and the flying Flygon sheriff charging after their behinds.

Many bystander Pokemon in the streets took cover behind objects, and some went into their homes, fearing being taken into the battle.

Dymen noticed that she was being worn down by focusing on too many things- running, carrying the money bag, and wielding the beam in her psychic, of which was twirling around as the Flygon got seemingly faster. They were losing their lead. She looked back and tried to swing it around like a bat, trying to swat the Ground-type out of the air.

“Arceus, this town is long!” Spyra complained in Dymen’s head. If she was going to say something else, she’d lose her chance.

“Urk!” Spyra muffled through the handle as Umbreon charged Dark-type energy at a precise moment, using Quick Attack combined with Feint Attack to keep momentum and his elemental energy. Even just by being in proximity, the festering energy in Umbreon’s paws affected her. He jumped back at the beam, which with the extra power and correct timing created momentum that slammed the seemingly unworried Flygon down to the ground. The wind was knocked out of the Flygon, not even a peep as they hit the ground.

“It was SO peaceful!” Flygon yelled at seemingly nobody, rubbing his head in anguish.

That wasn’t the last of their worries however, Dymen accidentally dropped his satchel, but the Espeon had the next bit of bad news in her sight- a team of Pokemon blocked their leave. It included a Garchomp, a Duraludon and Mr. Mime, which she assessed as the biggest threat comparing its typing and abilities;.

“Dymen, to me, now!”

Spyra slid her legs the other way, stopping right in her tracks. She fired off a Dazzling Gleam towards their foes as Dymen arrived. Mr. Mime spun his hands as his allies charged forward, unworried.

Mr. Mime’s Light Screen and Reflect was shown to be highly effective when the pink attack turned to a giant flash, but ultimately blinked out against a barrier in front of the two dragons, who continued charging while the mime in the back weaved his hands,

That, however, was expected. Spyra just wanted to test the opposing Psychic’s skill before diving under the speedy Garchomp’s claw, before launching back up towards his stomach.

“Dymen, even if they’re protected by infinity energy shields, you know what that means!” “Roger!” the quiet Umbreon replied.

The Garchomp, while pushed back, didn’t seem too phased and held his ground. Then a surprisingly strong tail wrapped around his right leg while he charged a Bulldoze, Earthquake would destroy too much! While he fired it off, Spyra jumped above it and, along with him tripping, jumped onto his head to push him deep into the whole he just carved.

Her forehead gleamed with sweat. My acrobatics are still on-point!

Dymen, on the other hand, was fighting at a slower pace. He bobbed and weaved around Flash Cannon beams, slowly getting closer to his target when they felt the Bulldoze shake both of their holds on the ground. The Umbreon used this to his advantage, leaning over to be pushed into the air light enough to hit the Steel-type’s armor with a Shadow Claw, which pierced past and hurt him directly. Duraludon’s armor is indeed sturdy, however, and punished his more hasty attack with a Flash Cannon straight to the face. It sent the Umbreon flying back with a hiss on his damaged fur.

“Not bad,” Duraludon spoke to his adversary, rubbing where would be his cheek behind the armor. Dymen got back up quickly, being a Pokemon known for taking ranged hits effectively. He blasted back with a giant encasing of darkness around his foe, even from afar- Payback. He seemingly floated through the wave of shadow into his face, blunting the Duraludon back a bit. That one hurt much more, but again, Duraludon held strong.

A faint glow behind the Umbreon was seen by him, and he jumped to the side. He looked behind him, faltering as the Mr. Mime was aiming another attack at him. Arceus, I hate Fairy-types. Dymen got blasted, especially so in one eye, and it was much harder to see with it.

“Aghhh!” Dymen tensed, worried for whatever the mime would do next.

What a weird Espeon, Garchomp thought to himself. They aren’t supposed to be strong physically, which means she isn’t trying to hit me through the barrier Mr. Mime’s focusing on me. Neat trick, but now I know.

Garchomp tensed his muscles, sharp skin showing in his scales. He looked down at her with a glare. “Petty criminals won’t get away from Sundale alive.”

Spyra noticed and rethought her plan. She dodged another Bulldoze, but decided against trying the same thing twice. Instead, she sharpened her claws, eyes shimmering as she dove up to his face. He reached out his claws to catch her or scratch, but she leaned to jump off of one, and released a Dazzling Gleam in his face, leaving him staggering back.

“Got you!” Spyro smirked.

She tried to use Quick Attack for momentum, but found herself caught in a second set of Dragon Claws. She looked up and saw a stern Flygon’s face.

“Welcome to your new jail-cell home!” Flygon shouted.

Spyra tried glaring back up even a speck of light, but she needed a bit of time to get the Fairy energy flowing. She screamed as a claw dug into her skin, leaving a gash. Her instincts demanded she use Psychic, and so she did. The Espeon saw the Mr. Mime was no longer focused, and with her full force, brought the gruff Garchomp flying towards her direction. It flew just into Flygon, which brought them into a rolling circle as Flygon gripped on as tight as possible. She gasped as blood spilled onto the Dragons, but knew she was nowhere near done or unable to battle.

The rolling ball of Pokemon crashed into a home with the Espeon in the middle, who finally had Fairy energy ready to roll. She charged up a giant self-defense Dazzling Gleam, which glowed up the entire inside of the circle.

Dymen, who noticed that, charged towards the mime. He bit on the Psychic’s shoulder while he watched his two adversaries try and take down the Espeon. Arceus, I hope she’s okay. I saw blood. This got the mime to stop focusing, and it worked out in the robber’s favor; the Garchomp was thrown back. As Pokemon screamed in the street from witnessing their second-best defender to the town was thrown on top of the medication building, thankfully not breaking the roof down with his size. Just a scratch, one that had the Zangoose owner who checked the noise outside gulping. “B-big guy, please don’t destroy my building.”

The Flygon let Spyra go as his claws both went to his eyes. Spyra quickly looked up and saw a Zigzagoon and their Linoone mother cowering back into their home that she’d just partaken in wrecking. With a nod of sympathy, it was time to go.

The Duraludon was busy sending a Draco Meteor towards the Umbreon, Mr. Mime wouldn’t be affected nearly as much with his typing.

“This is getting old, just go down you slippery bastards!” Duraludon cried as a big boulder, followed by a middle-sized and small one, was sent down to the Umbreon’s back. He used Protect, which left him dizzy when the big one hit, and pushed down to the dirt a tiny bit more with the last two. Dymen was relatively unharmed as the blue-tinted shield protected him, and Duraludon was not happy. Duraludon screamed violent phrases, running after the Dark-type as best he could.

Dymen kicked up a lot of sand, but the Duraludon continued forward.

Mr. Mime who was finally left alone from the paining bite turned around and tried another Dazzling Gleam, but the Dymen he thought was there simply disappeared as soon as it hit.

“W-wait, Clyde, that’s a Double Team clone!” Mr. Mime yelled, completely out of character for his species. It worked as Duraludon tried to cancel his Heavy Slam, losing momentum in front of the running Mr. Mime before being hit by a Quick Attack forward into his teammate.

“Dymen, collect the money, it’s time to go!”

Spyra ran back towards him, trying to recollect the satchels they left on the ground and leave. Her gem glowed and a bag flew towards her ally, who collected it. The Espeon picked up her own, and the two started running out to the desert together. They were lifted in the air as the recovered Garchomp jumped down behind them, leaving seemingly shockwaves.

“Nobody… Escapes!” He growled into a yell, throwing his fists down. The earth between him and the eeveelutions split apart, but also some behind him. Flygon noticed this and tried to get up in time to use his own earth techniques to stop a chunk of the town he spent so long working up from the ground from being sent under. Earth tried and spread back towards the quickly spreading hole.

“Drayden! Stop!!!”

Garchomp looked back to his name being called before the earth below him was cracked and he fell under. The last thing he saw before being in Flygon’s Sand Tomb was the eeveelutions making it off with likely hundreds of thousands, each sweating desperately through the heat.

The Espeon and Umbreon duo were being patched up in another town, Moondine. It was quite literally night and day between the two towns they’d visited this long, blisteringly hot day. Spyra gasped as an Audino patched up her wound. Of course, she never told the Audino the real way she got it, and their cash was teleported into their home in this extremely vibrant town they loved.

When the two left, Dymen had a cast around his face, and Spyra stitches, but they’d recover. Now, how to spend the money? They already knew. Spyra led the way into an alley past the seemingly hundreds of Pokemon passing the streets full of colors, and into a door most wouldn’t even know existed. Inside were dozens of Pokemon, each orphans. They all were excited to see their temporary caretakers return. The home had many toys, some quality food and a room for the two eeveelutions to have. A door in the back of the primarily blue room led to many beds that the orphans slept on.

Spyra pet a Cubchoo that went up to her to tell the Espeon about their idea for dinner, and a Pidgey flew onto Deymen’s head to tell him about their arts and crafts.

After cooking the food Cubchoo told Spyra about, and some other things for the Pokemon unhappy with his choice, the two adults made sure the youngest were taken care of and entertained before they headed to bed. And that was when the eeveelutions head to their own one, where they cuddled up in a heat that didn’t hurt to bare.

Their room had a desk with a detailed map of Sundale with a circle on the bank. Dymen’d from a black market, Spyro remembered being surprised there was a map this detailed, but thieves tried to do this sort of thing all the time.
“Well, I’m happy,” Spyra said to him with a soft smile.

“Same. It may take us these injuries and a lot of danger… but, as long as those kids are happy, and we’re able to keep going monetarily.”

“Mhm. Speaking of which, one of them is going to a family tomorrow, right?”

“Ah… We should throw them a party, Sammy was, it?”

The two talked about the next day’s events and how the battle went for both of their sides, and reassuring each other. After battles that shook them like today, they needed to know they were okay, and cuddling always helped that. Reminded the pair that as long as they are together, they’re in safe paws.

Twenty-four hours later, and the two would go back to their exhausted room, this time with Spyra shakily using Psychic to put a picture into a cabinet with dozens of them. Each one had a child they’d cared for, and they often looked at them to remember each and every one of them. The two cried in their room, but of happy tears knowing that the Pokemon they’d done a lot to raise was in good hands; and that they gave a good sendoff.

Spyra and Dymen love their jobs.
