“Walking and running on air,” Nero chirped.

 

[Dragonfree]

Dave squinted at him. "Walking... on air."

 

[Ambyssin]

"Yeah." Nero beamed. "Well, it's more like firing little air currents from my feet. But it sounds more fun the first way."

 

[Dragonfree]

"Huh." Dave flipped through his brain for what Pokémon might be the inspiration for that feature. Nothing immediately came to mind, but whatever.

"Must be pretty handy having a designer body. Evolution leaves most of us with something haphazardly pasted together to fulfill whatever random niche, and once we develop sapience we just have to deal with whatever that is and however bad it is at what we want to do with our lives. Do you age, or were you in Club Immortality even before you became a space cop deity?"

 

[Ambyssin]

Nero frowned. "I, uh, had a kill switch in me originally. So, I think that's a no."

 

[Dragonfree]

Dave shuddered. "Jesus. Can't even say I'm fucking surprised." Why was everyone who wanted to depose gods some kind of douchebag or a fucking lunatic? "You manage to disable it?"

 

[Ambyssin]

"Uh, no. I blew up." Nero looked around nervously. "Then I got put back together by the necrozma I mentioned."

 

[Dragonfree]

Dave stared at him for a moment. Another universe with casual resurrection. Go figure.

"And, what, is it normal for Necrozma over there to just be able to casually put people back together after they explode?"

 

[Ambyssin]

“No. He’s a strange case. Complicated case.”

 

[Dragonfree]

Dave exhaled. "Great. Does he do that regularly, or were you also a special case?"

 

[Ambyssin]

"I mean... we're friends." Nero looked down. "This was a one-time thing." He traced a talon through the dirt. "I mean... you humans have super rare diseases, right? If someone close to you was a victim of a rare circumstance, wouldn't you want to do everything you could to help them?"

 

[Dragonfree]

"Yeah. Yeah, I'd love to. Too fucking bad I'm not a light-dragon with god powers, huh?"

He'd been here way too long. Should just get the fuck home.

 

[Ambyssin]

Nero thought he heard a bit of sarcasm in there. "Well, uh, be careful what you wish for. With great power comes great insanity."

 

[Dragonfree]

"Oh, fantastic. Great insanity is definitely what I want from my god-cops." He could've sworn that was some kind of mangled quote from a movie...? Did they have the same movies? What the fuck. He narrowed his eyes at Nero. "You never did answer when I asked if he shares your philosophy of noninterventionism either, did you."

 

[Ambyssin]

"We only intervene with the kind of emergencies that would threaten multiple linked worlds," Nero responded. "Which doesn't happen very often. So, mostly we're on the lookout for people who fall through dimensional rifts and get displaced from their homes and stuff."

 

[Dragonfree]

"And where's the 'great insanity' come into it? Other than resurrecting his personal friends?"

 

[Ambyssin]

"The guy he took the form and powers from wanted to destroy every universe," Nero flatly responded.

 

[Dragonfree]

Dave looked at him, deadpan. "So with great power comes great insanity, but only for people who aren't you and your friends. That's your point?"

 

[Ambyssin]

Nero's head crest drooped. "No. There's a chance something bad could happen to me, too. That's why I'd rather not use these kinds of things. I'd rather stick to more... conventional attacks."

 

[Dragonfree]

Dave sighed, looking away. Wasn't like interrogating this poor guy back and forth was accomplishing much of anything. "Well, good for you. I'm not a big fan of anyone having god powers."
