"Well, for one, I have a great amount of power," Pop replied frankly. "I do not think it is the same position as a ruler and their subjects... Though, it is also a matter of respect that they do not defy me. Mutual respect." He bowed his head. "It is true, though. Should you make a mistake, that mistake is with you. That is why I am ever careful with every decision I must make, and very rarely do I make them. Often, I leave it to the rest... Which can be very unlike that of a monarch, who is supposed to have absolute rule."

Icetales tilted his head as he registered an interesting detail about what Pop said, especially regarding his position. Not a monarch or ruler, but a cautious entity who had to take decisions only when the situation called for it.

That wasn’t something he would have expected from an Alpha, but it was an interesting perspective nonetheless. Mutual respect… yes, even he felt great respect toward that perspective.

“Ah, yes. Power. How that is used can make the difference between appearing as an intimidator or as a benefactor. I reckon that having immense power equates to being even more conscious on how thou use it, yes? Only because thou art a ruler with power does not mean thou have to do as thou please.”

He beamed a reassuring grin. “And for what it’s worth, I truly appreciate that thou art trying to integrate thyself more with the goodmons. Thy approach of getting in more even grounds with them might be… a tad unorthodox, but it is an admirable intent, nonetheless.”

"...I do not feel like myself when I do it," Pop admitted, with a faint smile in that glimmer in his eyes. "Giving myself a name beyond the title and the species... I could accept that. But the language, the etiquette... I do wonder if it unnerves them." His expression darkened. "But I do wish, sometimes, that I could be among them. But perhaps... that is simply not something for the Alpha to do." He seemed to sigh, wistful.

"It is sad, in a way," he admitted. "I created this world long, long ago due to a vague sense of loneliness, as many of my kind do. We are Creators, but only to fill a distinct loneliness. And yet, I cannot partake in the togetherness that my Creation can foster... Not in the true sense. Perhaps... I've drifted. Perhaps my world is growing up...

"That is another thing one must be aware of," he told Icetales. "When you are a leader... be sure to keep your friends as much as you can. Otherwise... there is an emptiness that can come with power." He tapped a hoof on the ground. "Not even I can escape it sometimes."

But perhaps... that is simply not something for the Alpha to do." He seemed to sigh, wistful.

“Golly, if I know how that feels like!” responded Icetales, feeling sympathy toward the deity in front of him. “Well, I am no Alpha, but I have felt this barrier cast between myself and the goodmons, separated by our oh-so-distinct origins.

“It is not easy to integrate, I agree. When thou have become a symbol of sorts and crafted thy own image, trying to change might appear… jarring to others, we could say.” He sighed. “I have tried to blend in, but that made me look more like a fool than anything. Mocked for my lingo, mocked when I try to change my lingo… it’s like I can never win, no matter what.”

Icetales paused and rubbed his chin with a forepaw, thoughtfully.

“…But perhaps we do not have to… change at all? Perhaps there is a way to be among goodmons while still staying true to ourselves? I reckon this might be the way to do things. And who knows? With time they might accept thee just the way thou are. Accept thy presence in their lives.” He flashed a determined smile. “I know I want to accomplish this goal, and… perhaps thou should tread into a similar path as well. Let us no try to act ‘in’, but still be ‘in’ their lives in some way.”

"It is sad, in a way," he admitted. "I created this world long, long ago due to a vague sense of loneliness, as many of my kind do. We are Creators, but only to fill a distinct loneliness. “…I am very aware of that, and I shall keep this notion in mind. No ‘mon is an island, after all. Unity… that it the purest of powers.”

Icetales beamed a friendly grin, while his tails wagged and spread snowflakes.

“If it is of any comfort… I would be willing to be friends with thee. Thou have such great insight of matters, and I reckon there is plenty I could learn from thee.” He paused and his ears twitched. “If… thou not mind, of course.”

"You would?" Pop asked with a half-amused, yet half-genuine tone. "...I think I would like that very much, Icetales. However fleeting your stay will be here... and however fleeting all of this may be... I think it would be worth it."

He looked ahead, back at his documents, and nodded. "Perhaps a different approach would be good... one day. Perhaps not today. I have... other plans I need to attend to. Things that... must be done for the sake of this world. Perhaps, in the coming days, Icetales, you can see what it means to be dedicated to the land you rule. Because in the end... I do not believe that land should serve me." A glimmer of determination sparked in his eyes. "I am a servant to them. And I will do everything in my power to save it from whatever comes their way."

“…Sacrosanct words, good sir. Those are… the words of a true guide.”

Icetales smiled and placed a forepaw on his chest, then bowed with respect.

“Now, I shall leave thee with thy projects. It has been a true delight to converse with thee. A most illuminating experience, even. And… I would be most honored to learn what thou have to teach. We shall confer once more in a more auspicious situation, if the stars and the heavens allow it.”

Icetales turned to leave the room, before stopping at a few steps from the door and glancing behind.

“Oh. One last thing…” The Ninetales lifted a paw and tried to lift his digits with a victory sign. “Peace out!”

And with those final words, Icetales strode out of the room.

"Peace out..." Pop's eyes gleamed again, and then he looked over his documents. "Yes... peace. That is what I want." Because that was his role in the world, his responsibility, the great weight that those of his kind shared. This great ball in the sky was another test for the world that he'd made, to see whether his Creation could truly outmatch it. And if they couldn't... he would have to find a way to help. That was, in the end, his duty. "I will do everything in my power to keep everyone safe," he muttered, turning through his plans.

"No matter what that may entail..."

A day had passed in the timeless bubble that surrounded Destiny Village, only kept track thanks to the way the clocks moved. Maple called for those who wished to go through strategizing to show up at Destiny Tower, and soon, the team trickled in for those who were ready to discuss the ball of death in the sky.

"Thank you, everyone, for coming," Maple said, nodding. Behind her was the God Squad, and along with them, Arceus and S'more.

"Where is Owen?" Arceus asked.

"He's taking care of something else, but he left me all of his notes," Maple added. "He should make it later. I had some notes from a few others as well, mm... But regardless, I think it's time that we discussed... the matter of Joule." She still was tense, but she kept a firm tone. No matter who it was, it was a threat, and it had to be taken care of. "Before we begin, I think I would like to outline a few things that Owen was able to analyze after taking a flight to the edge of the time bubble to look at Joule directly. Specifically... some metrics."

Maple then went on to describe what Owen was able to analyze of the enemy, more thoroughly than usual thanks to how much time he had to look him over in action. She used comparisons to other enemies they'd fought before, powers and auras that had permeated the air, and as she spoke, a horrible wave of dread washed over the team...

"So it's just his offensive powers that we have to worry about then," Cabot mused, putting a claw to his chin. "At least we know our attacks will do a good amount damage to him, and it sounds like it shouldn't be too hard either to slow him down by either freezing or paralyzing him."

He shook his head. "Of course we need to stay alive long enough in order to do that, but Pleo and I might have a way around that."

"We thought of a way to weaken Joule!" Pleo chirped, beating out his wings.

"What in the..." Cynthian widened his eyes and couldn't speak as Maple announced Joule's power. What even were those descriptions? A wave of dizziness struck him and he had to press his flower to his forehead and take a moment to breathe.

"Okay, so Joule is a literal glass cannon, but how in the world do we do anything to him before he wipes us all out in one fell swoop?" Try as he might, Cynthian couldn't come up with a solution even as his heart drummed in his chest. Cabot spoke up at that moment, and a tinge of relief and curiosity flashed in Cynthian's eyes when the cranidos implied a solution.

"You came up with a way out of this mess? I expected nothing less from you, Cabot," Cynthian said, holding his chest to huff. He leaned his head and asked, "What's the plan then?"

Maple nodded. "I've gotten notes from a few others on the team prior to this meeting in case they were not able to make it," she said. "There are several plans here. However, perhaps if you echo the same plan, we could gain insight on it..."

"Or it's just the obvious answer and it's too simple," Soda pointed out with a shrug. "Hit us with it, dino boy."

"Well, regardless of how strong Joule is, one of the reasons why his attacks are so deadly is because they're all Blacklight attacks," Cabot began. "We know how effective both Radiant and Shadow attacks can be against most Pokémon, so it's not hard to imagine how powerful an attack that uses both can be. It would hurt us the same way a Parasect would by fire, or a Gyarados by lightning. Because of that I was wondering if there's anything we could do to resist those attacks... and there is."

"If we could somehow get Joule into the Reverse World everything would be... well, reversed. Most would resist Shadow and Radiant attacks instead, and that goes double for Blacklight attacks, which would weaken Joule's offensive powers quite a bit. Of course he could just open up a portal to get back to Destiny Village, but that's why we'd go into the Reverse World with him. That way he'd have to defeat us first if he wants to return. I know that Joule would still be really powerful even if we all naturally resist Blacklight attacks, but at least it's a start and it would make the fight a lot more manageable than if we fight him here right above Destiny Village."

"And the Reverse World has lots of areas where nobody lives, so we can even fight Joule without worrying about other 'mons accidently getting hurt because of our battle!" Pleo chimed in.

Spending an entire day alone did little for Vix. Who would've thought, right? She was still somewhat melty, and kept her bag of puddle in her arms. It's not like she could put it anywhere else. Or wanted to.

Vix only really came to the meeting to try and be helpful; she was better at planning than fighting. And she hoped maybe being social would, like, help.

"I agree with Cabot's plan," Vix said. "That would give us the most advantage over him, I think. If we could find a way to drain his corruption, that would help as well. I don't think any of us are really close enough to him to call out to him other than, uh... Maple. We might not even need to physically beat him if we can help Maple get through to him."

Bahamut stood in the back and said something he was sure would catch people off guard. “I wholeheartedly agree with that plan... on one condition.”

He pointed to Maple. “You have to come with us... because you’re the one who has to call Joule, not us.”

Cabot looked towards Bahamut and blinked. The Cranidos seemed surprised at his answer... but in a good way. He surely would have expected Bahamut to just dismiss his idea, or remain silent about it at best. And while he had assumed himself that Maple would join them for that exact reason, he never would have thought Bahamut of all Pokémon would propose that with the way he spoke yesterday about calling out to Joule. Had something made him change his mind?

Bahamut noticed a few bewildered stares and opted to elaborate. "Think about it. Darkwhite spent months harassing the team. Diyem was the voice in our heads for a while before his disappearance. What do they have in common? Simple: connections." He raised his left hand. "Team Spectrum had time to connect with the two of them. So calling them had actual weight behind it.

"But to Joule, we are complete strangers. He knows nothing about us and all we have to go off of are secondhand accounts." Bahamut gestured to Maple and her familiar. "Any words of encouragement we could offer would be empty and meaningless." He glanced at Cabot. "How would you react if a stranger walked up to you out of the blue and told you they believe in you and you shouldn't give into corruption?" He paused. "And you're in a fit state of mind. Now imagine what someone hopped up on Blacklight would think."

He shook his head. "But it should be a different story for his mate, shouldn't it?" Bahamut pointed to Maple again. "You tried to fight him the last time we crossed paths. And you failed. Team Spectrum, however, has a certain inexplicable synergy. It lets us attack with improbable amounts of damage. Which is why we should flip roles. Team Spectrum does the fighting. You do the emotional appeals.

"The only question is if you're up to that."

"You just said what I said but better..." Vix bubbled quietly, holding her bag tighter. It felt like the stories she heard of people trying to be funny in school, just for someone else to take the credit. She would have be upset but couldn't find any real reason to. At least Bahamut having the same idea meant she was on the right track. That was something to want to feel good about.
