Brisa moved from the training rooms to the arena entrance, and made to ask about arranging a duel with someone. Ideally the matchup would be fairly even, but really what would be best was going toe to toe with someone she knew. It was always better than sparring with a stranger.

"How do you do?" she asked someone who looked like they might be the fight organiser. "I'm Shinx Brisket of Team Spectrum, and I'd like to fight someone. D'you do walk-on matches?"

"I believe it, Ma'am," said Brisa. "Be seein' you."

She waved goodbye to Team Spice, idly imagining going toe to toe with them in her old body. Maybe it would be finally enough to let her evolve into luxray... but not today, and not in this body.

She could still go for another fight, though. Maybe someone else would challenge her after spectating her last...

"Why must I show up to this infernal place again?" Bahamut stomped through the entrance with his arms drooping on either side of him.

"You got a summons." Esper waved the piece of parchment in front of Bahamut's eyes. He grabbed it (and Esper) in his right hand. "Urk... c'mon, you don't want to disappoint the kiddies, right?"

Bahamut let go and muttered something under his breath.

Brisa's mane crackled with agitation as she loped into the arena. She needed to burn off some energy before she could even consider going through with this hypothetical meeting with her father. Even if it couldn't actually happen, she'd gotten way too worked up from staring down a god and all but daring him to kill her. Time to kick some ass. Or get her ass kicked, that would also do just fine, and it could actually happen with her body still not caught up to her usual strength and the folks of Cibus being mighty strong.

"Who am I up against today?" she called out, half-expecting it to be the twins again. That'd be alright, but she was hoping for someone tougher, someone who might actually beat her.

Luz took up a supporting stance behind her, waving her arms up to the crowds and kissing her digits and blowing kisses to the audience. What a fucking show-off.

"Alright," Owen said to himself, looking left and right. "I think if we know Rayquaza well enough, we can probably guess that he's going to open with the same strategy as before. He still has his Radiant powers, and he seems to be just a little stronger, too. So--"

"Wait, how do you know this?" Cal asked.

Owen gestured behind him, where Wishkeeper appeared.

    "Oh, right."

The whole team was gathered in the left waiting lobby, clearly ready to fight, but they had some last minute strategizing to make. "You guys all got your items, right? The Colosseum provided us with a good set for each of us to use if we need to, but we all have different needs. Brisa, you keep maintaining that burn, right? So either get a Tiny Reviver, because those don't work, or maybe get those weird seeds and use it on yourself if you get a normal Reviver? And, uh... Vix, maybe you should get more Max Elixirs, since you tire out pretty quickly in fights, but we need your offensive power..."

Owen continued to babble, obsessing over their loadout and preparation. After all, unlike so many other times, they had time to plan.

Across the western ridge, where the wind was blowing its hardest, Astrid strolled into town and down the main road. It blew her hair into her face, prompting her to seek out a groomer—because how could there not be a groomer in town? This was Destiny Village. This was Lively Town beefed up on ten Violent Seeds. They had everything here. Damn straight they would have a groomer.

When all was said and done, she couldn’t find one, but that was hardly her concern by the time she’d gotten into the thick of the city. The crowds were denser than usual, especially around the colosseum. Her original task was quickly forgotten; now, Astrid pushed forward to investigate.

There was a disproportionate amount of folks heading through the commercial doors, which led into the stands. A smaller, but still disproportionate number of Pokémon—most of them looking like fairly capable fighters—were lined up at the front desk, some heading into the various locker rooms with passes. Oh? Maybe something’s happening. I could sure go for some battling right about now…

She did her best to remain discreet as she weaved through the expansive main lobby, but it was a losing battle. It seemed like everyone in the building knew who she was. The freaking janitor was staring. Whispers were exchanged. Looks were fired, some wary, some in awe, none of them subtle. She supposed some part of her should feel proud, and she tried to channel the feeling from back in the colosseum, when so many unfamiliar voices were applauding at the shadowy display.

That, too, was a losing battle. Here and now, when her blood wasn’t pumping and her confidence wasn’t up, and where those voices felt so much more real, like they belonged to individuals rather than a single cheering entity—here and now, it all felt wrong. Wrong enough to avoid indulging in entirely. With a tiny smile in no particular direction, she hurried to the receptionist just as the last Pokémon in line finished their business.

“Hi! Hi, um. I’m here to battle. Uh, I know it’s not when I usually come, but—” She craned her neck back to the entrance, where even more to-be spectators began to pile through the legendary-sized doors. “—say, what’s going on?”

"And you're ready for this?" Lugia asked, staring down at the much smaller Lugia before her.

"Mm. I am." Meringue flexed his wings, beating them a few times to keep limber. "It's just one sparring session to practice up. I'll show you what I can do after my training."

Lugia smiled a little. "You'll be going against just one of them. They are powerful in numbers, but even alone, you should be careful. They're growing at an alarming rate."

"I know. And I'm probably the weakest Legend right now, all things considered..."

Lugia chuckled. "Don't sell yourself short." She turned away, walking down from the fighter lobby. "I will be watching. Good luck."

Destiny Colosseum’s next big tournament was not envisioned by many to be this way, with the end of their lives suspended above their heads. Surely, Giovanni and Joule could not see them now, moving at the relative pace they were. Yet, few of the audience members dared to look up. Looking up was worse than peering down from the tallest cliff.

But still. It wasn’t like it was going anywhere. Mutually understood among most of the audience was that this was, in fact, the closest thing they had to a demonstration of their resolve: an all-out assertion of power underneath their true challengers.

It certainly resonated in Incineroar’s tone. “All right folks! Are! You! Ready! For the very first Spectrum Showcase?!”

From the locker room, Astrid felt it—the crowd’s roaring was vibrating throughout the building, giving her goosebumps. Her heart was beating so fast just watching; she could only imagine how her allies felt…

    “I said are you ready?!”

The crowd responded in kind, prompting Incineroar to grin and stomp his foot. “That’s what I want to hear! In that case… first! It’s the icy rogue Nip and the blazing fireball Starr—” He puffed out his chest and swept his arm towards them, and then to the other side “—testing their mettle against Cynthian’s grassy assault and Icetales’ misty tactics! Best of luck, everyone!

    “You may… begin!”
