Between the residential north and the entertainment south sections of Destiny Village's eastern side sat Destiny Colosseum. A massive, circular building that was home to the greatest fights known to Cibus. With recent technological advances, even some of the more high-end parts of the world could watch the matches from across the country, or even the world. Pristine white stone made up most of the structure, though there was a faint glow to the buildings that suggested enchantments of some kind to keep the building sturdy and unbroken.

During peak hours, the lines to get in for seating were long, even for Destiny Village's somewhat exclusive population, as most tourists had to attend at least one fight. Registration lines were long, but there was always one special featured battle every day. Aside from that, there were times to reserve spots for bit fights and several training, sparring, and utility rooms under and around the main arena. Each one was, of course, equipped with a screen to view whatever was happening in the main arena that took the center of the Colosseum.

While Team Spectrum had only been present for a little over a month when they had arrived in Destiny Village, Cibus was abuzz with speculation on whether they would partake in any of these fights.

It is a known fact that Pokemon bond through battle. Perhaps, through battles, Team Spectrum can strengthen themselves, test new strategies, and grow closer with the natives of Cibus?

<><><>

Destiny Colosseum is where you can choose to duel with various residents of Cibus! Colosseums follow Rescue Team regulations, and only three Pokemon on either side can enter the ring at a time. Battles are on a timer, and vitality sensors are equipped to announce to everyone how either side of the team is doing. When time runs out, a winner is decided by the referee! Battles can last no longer than two days ooc before the in-universe timer runs out, and all actions relevant to the battle are to be posted within this thread and NOT official actions.

Participating in battles is another way to gain familiarity with other characters, as well as gain renown with the whole world as news of Team Spectrum spreads!

Bahamut strolled the streets but was eventually alerted to the sounds of... cheering? It was the most concentrated bit of joy he'd heard since he'd gotten to Cibus. And that was suspicious. What did the locals have to celebrate with a potential looming crisis?

He padded his way across the chilled grounds, trident-tipped tail swaying lazily behind him. "What's all of this, then? Why's there so much cheering?"

Several curious eyes looked toward Bahamut during his walk. Being so large, he already attracted a few eyes, even among fully evolved Pokemon that walked the same wide halls, but it was how different and luminous he looked that also contributed.

"And the winner is Balm and Cepa! A decisive victory by the travelers from beyond!"

More cheers, apparently coming from deeper inside, which finally died down as Bahamut drew closer. It seemed that now the crowd was starting to drain out from the stands.

A winner? Was there some sort of competition going on? Bahamut wasn't exactly one for games — he was too big for nearly all of them back home — but he wouldn't deny the joy it brought others. Maybe in a place like Destiny Village he could actually partake in a game?

He walked through a partition that some of the people were fanning out from.

A bright and loud arena greeted Bahamut, even though by now half the seats were empty. However, there was one person in the arena who seemed to be looking directly at Bahamut with an odd glint in his eye. "What's this?" called a magnified voice. "It seems we have a special visitor just as the battle came to a close!"

A bright light searched through the crowd before shining onto Bahamut.

"Heeey, Bahamut!" a familiar, youthful voice called, and through the light, a Croconaw was waving Bahamut down. It was Surf, as well as Turf, and both were hastily murmuring to one another. Net to them was Thyme and Pepper, who looked down at their two kids with a mildly amused, but perplexed expression.

"Yeah, uh, Bahamut, don't you remember?!" Surf called immediately, running toward him as the crowd cleared the way. "You were, uh, you were scheduled for a surprise match after the last one was over! Right?"

The Incineroar announcer at the center of the stage seemed surprised at first, but then looked back at some Pokemon in the shadows of the stands. They had urged him to do something, and then suddenly cried out, "Why, what's this?! A surprise match against Bahamut, interdimensional hero?!"

The crowd that was leaving gradually stopped their departure to glance back at what was going on.

"Yeah! Uh--between... us!" Surf said.

Pepper frowned, concerned, and was about to step in when Thyme held a vine on her shoulder with an impish smirk.

"Come on, come on!" Surf urged Bahamut to follow them to the battle arena, where Turf was already trying to scale the stands to. By now the audience seemed convinced this was some kind of scripted performance as a special event, and were taking seats once more.

"Come on where? Why isn't anyone telling me what's going on here?" Bahamut's confusion was not helped by the stone that was jostling his bag around. Why was a stone celebrating his misfortune? It didn't take any effort to get to where the kids were pointing, but he wasn't expecting to see so many pokémon. He never got this many people at his old sermons...

"Aw, lighten up a little," Thyme said, stepping over to Bahamut. "They just want to have a sparring match with you. Try to go easy, yeah? I think they're just excited and did it spur of the moment. And hey, maybe you can get some good word in for your team."

Surf and Turf were standing on the far side of the arena, the older of the two feigning punches in the air.

"Sparring... match?" Bahamut blinked. Surely, this was a jest. He didn't spar. Battling wasn't something you did for sport. It was something you did because you had to. Not even for training. You trained against the elements. The harshest that nature could throw at you. That was how you grew strength. Battling for sport sounded nauseating.

Besides, this body of his wasn't well-suited to attacking. But he supposed he could use that to make this "battle" end in an entirely different way.

The feline form faded and Bahamut's broken, prism form floated forward. Good word for the team. Right, because I'm the one best suited to that.

Still, they were kids. He could at least try to keep them entertained, right?

"What a surprise for us today!" Incineroar declared, holding a device that some would recongize as a microphone of some kind, though it seemed to glow slightly. Perhaps some enchantments. "Bahamut, the crystal fortress, against Surf and Turf, the daughters of time! Are we ready to battle, fighters?"

Turf looked like she was just happy to be there, while Surf looked like she was ready to find all of Bahamut's weak points to strike. "Ready," Surf said firmly.

Let's just get this over with.

"Daughters of time, hmm? I didn't think you were Dialga's kids."

Bahamut inwardly cringed at this banter attempt. He doubted Surf liked it. It was for Turf's sake. Nevertheless, he pointed at Surf, arm crackling with electricity. Out came the rippling photons of a Thunder Wave.

Screens flashed to life high above the arena, revealing the vitality of both sides of the field, Bahamut, Surf, and Turf were all shown with full vitality, though once Surf took the Thunder Wave shock, a little, yellow icon appeared next to her name on the screen.

"Ghhk--! You... think that's gonna be enough to stop us?" she said. "Come on, Turf! Let's take h-h-him on!" She fought through the electricity and lunged for Bahamut, biting him on the arm for her opening strike. Turf, meanwhile, didn't seem to know what to do once the battle actually started, and she fumbled about before blasting Bahamut with a stream of water.

Surf used Ice Fang on Bahamut, dealing 13 damage!
Turf used Water Gun on Bahamut, dealing 5 damage!

So, Surf was, predictably, the stronger of the two. And Turf had no idea what she was doing. If Bahamut wanted to end the battle without resorting to fainting, he'd have to make it hard for Surf to get a move in edgewise.

Light bristled around his core. He flicked his left arm at Surf, summoning the Radiant Siphon tendrils which would grab hold of Surf and drain away her ability to use attacks.

"What... what did you... do to me?" Surf grunted, struggling to break free from the golden strands that wrapped around her arms. "What kind of technique is this?!"

"Surf!" Turf called. "Wait! You don't have to move to do this next attack! Let's do our secret combo!"

"Right... Don't think you've got us just yet, Bahamut! Here comes... our ultimate Pledge attack!"

Surf and Turf used Water Pledge together, dealing a total of 22 damage to Bahamut!

Bahamut: 183

Surf: 100
Turf: 60

"...Where's the part with the combo happens?" Turf asked Surf.

"I thought using two Pledge attacks makes them stronger!" Surf cried, kicking at the strands.

"Oh dear. Did your parents not teach you about those attacks?" Bahamut glanced up toward the stands, shaking his head. "If you want to make the best use of them, you have to combine two Pledges of different elements." He pointed to Pepper and Thyme. "Your parents use water and grass to create a swamp of sorts. Two waters cannot do such a thing.

"I'd be happy to teach you more, but a place like this isn't really for learning."

He looked at Turf. The same technique would probably frazzle her. And even if a sibling bond prompted Surf to jump in to take Siphon, she would be even worse for wear.

Incineroar announced the blows, but with that declaration, he glanced at the vitality sensors and gasped. "What's this?!" he said. "It seems that since this battle started, Bahamut has actually become stronger than when he first entered! Our interface doesn't know how to measure it!"

"Well... that doesn't matter!" Surf declared. "We'll, uh, I have one more technique I can use to beat you!"

"Yeah! Use Surf, Surf!"

"Exactly," Surf said, grinning triumphantly. "I'm gonna use Surf!"

Turf waited, readying another Water Pledge to go with it.

Surf lowered her body and conjured water around her, which swirled and spun, but it couldn't quite form into anything powerful. It seemed she wasn't able to properly conjure it. "Just... a little..." Surf grunted. "Fine! Water Pledge can combo into itself by being stronger anyway! We'll just outpace your healing!"

Surf and Turf used a double Water Pledge, dealing 22 damage!

Bahamut: 161

Surf: 100
Turf: 60

"Hmm. Something's getting lost in translation when you try to Surf." Bahamut paused. "Err... the attack, not your actual name." This was really getting stupid. Hadn't the kids had their fun yet?

He speared Surf with more light tendrils. Contrary to their boast, they weren't really outpacing his ability to heal.
