Cynthian heard Brisa's voice above the crowd and returned a smile. Her heart warmed at the sight of her friends cheering them on.

"Here I come, Sunny!" Cynthian's green aura surged to life and she bolted forward at her opponent. The weird feeling Cynthian had that many eyes around Sunny bored into her sent a shiver up her vine. Unwilling to lose confidence, a thick vine sprouted from her bouquet and she snapped it ahead with a loud crack!

Cynthian getting the fight going kicked Scrafty into gear. They floated behind Icetales and Cynthian, their flames flaring and their grin as flashy as ever. "Alright! Let's hold nothing back!" they cheered out, radiating a rallying aura.

Their mind started racing, thinking about all the possible ways to start this fight out. Should they start stacking up toxic? Confuse Sunny right from the get go? All sounded like good options, but it might've been best to halt Sunny's defensive potential as soon as possible.

"Come on, Sunny! There's gotta be some kind of power behind that cute little face of yours. Let's cut to the chase and see just how strong you really are!" They taunted, also coating themself in some shining radiant wax. For added flair, they put their hands on their hips, jutted it to the side, and shot Sunny a smug wink.

Wow... that was a lot more, uh, something than I wanted... Hopefully no one else really notic--

She threw a paw in the air and roared her encouragement to her friends down in the arena.

"C'mon you three!! Show off what you've learned, huh?!"

Scrafty's brave face cracked for the teeniest moment after spotting Brisa and the others in the stands.

Th-They're here? Why the hell are they here?! D-Did they see that?! The hell were we thinking!?

It was certainly unreasonable to expect some of the battle junkies not to show up, wasn't it? Now, not only did they have to hope the others didn't notice, but Scrafty also felt this urge to not lose this fight. Especially after that "taunt."

Icetales waved his paw to acknowledge the roar of encouragement, then turned back to his opponent. He wasn’t going to let down his teammates, that’s for sure!

The familiar snowstorm fell on the battlefield, cloaking the spring sun and cooling down the atmosphere.

Darkness seeped out of his body and coalesced into the dark wraith, then lunged at the Blissey with the power of a blizzard. The spectral energy detonated with a confusing power, before turning the piercing hail into a soothing diamond dust.

Pink pixie clouds and bright auroras surrounded the team, shielding them from damage and disruptive techniques.

“I want to see thee pierce these barriers, Miss Sunny!”

Astrid leaned forward, fumbling with her drink as she caught it before spilling. Gah, I hate these wide colosseum drinks… can’t believe I lost that canteen that Dave had been amazed about. Fit my paw perfectly.

Ah, well. She wasn’t fighting; it was whatever. After the colosseum’s usual bout of adverts and promotions—because any Team Spectrum fight drew a crowd these days—Incineroar’s voice boomed and the battle was underway.

By the looks of it, nobody was wasting any time.

“They’re speeding up,” Astrid commented as she glanced back and forth between the sides of battle. On the left, Cynthian was beginning to advance. “Ooh, I think they’re gonna slap her with a physical move! Blissey don’t like those.”

"Oh! Oh!" Sunny narrowly rolled out of the way of most of the attack, looking like just a nick of it had done a lot of damage to her side. She winced a little, panting, but Cynthian would get a sense that the whip had been caught by something moments before striking Sunny. That should have hit her. It felt like it hit something. What did it hit?

"Oh no, oh no... Those hits are hard! I need to get ready for that..."

Owen was next to Brisa, and he leaned forward. Wishkeeper loomed even higher, wanting to get a closer look. "Are those... spirits?"

"Ow! What the hell was that?! Did you guys see her do anything, because I sure didn’t!" Cynthian winced from the psychic attack, but quickly gathered her bearings.

"Guys, am I the only one who feels like there's a weird feeling around Sunny, like she's not alone?" Cynthian asked, glancing at her teammates. She narrowed her eyes at Sunny and huffed.

"I don't know what you did, but we'll figure your tricks out eventually!" Cynthian's chest glowed and out came heinous thorned tendrils, barring any harm from reaching her. Still, she could feel the rejuvenating power of the icy mist surrounding Icetales. Her heart swelled in gratitude and she fought the urge to scoot over to him.

"Let's pry your shell open, Sunny!" The sentence sounded much cooler in her head and her cheeks redenned in embarrassment, but all she could do was steel her expression and charge towards a second onslaught.

"There it is, but I know you're stronger than that! I've had gusts of wind worry me more than that attack!" Scrafty laughed, rolling their neck. That attack stung, more than they thought it would, but it was something. But, even if Scrafty got some kind of high from "Sunny's" attack, they knew that an attack of any other type would be devastating, especially towards Cynthian.

"Sunny's got some odd power behind her, yeah. It's hard to tell what it is, but we've gotta be ready for anything she might dish out," Scrafty said, casting a veil of wax over Cynthian. A frosty, soothing chime rang from Icetales. A bit of the aches from Sunny's attacked seemed to went away thanks to that. Scrafty gave Icetales a nod, radiating a similar aura from before. "Both of you, keeps your eyes peeled for anything and stay alert!"

Well, now Icetales knew how an inhabitant of Cibus felt while struck by a Blacklit attack: a disorienting effect as the brain struggled to grasp the true form of that attack.

“By the heavens and stars! Was that a… fire move?” grunted the Ninetales, glaring at the bright aura surrounding Sunny. Darkness crawled on his back as he felt a familiar sensation…

Then, for a brief moment, he thought of Seventh, and his eyes widened as something seemed to cool .

Why, yes, wasn’t Sunny’s Daycare close to Spirit’s Edge? Maybe the closeness to such a spiritual place made her closer to the spirit realms as a result?

Seventh… What if Sunny was a medium, too?

Hmm…

“Allow me to give you both some extra strength, so that we are ready for anything.”

With that said, the clear sounds of the Heal Bell resonated above the trio, restoring some of their health and stamina. Afterward, another barrier of icy rainbows flickered into view, mixed with the dark clouds and bright mist.

"Scrafty gave Icetales a nod, radiating a similar aura from before. "Both of you, keeps your eyes peeled for anything and stay alert!"

Icetales nodded back. “Thou got this!”

He braced himself, his body becoming harder than steel as his stance became firmer. Not even a cannonball would have been able to budge that iceberg in fox shape!

"Spirits?! Of course, that makes sense. She can reach the spirit's edge." Having renewed understanding of her opponent, Cynthian focused once more.

"Sunny, you gotta strike back! Don't let the astral spirits do all the fighting!" Cynthian said, lashing out her vines once again.

…and the aura reignited when he was struck by… whatever struck him, leaving his fur disheveled in many places. It was such a fast assault that he couldn’t even dodge it in time!

“Hmph…” He shook his head and Focused, keeping his running Blacklight in check. Then, his body started glowing with a radiant bolstering energy. “Well! If spirits are involved in some way, then it is time to make things even with some inspiritment!”

The Ninetales howled, sending a wave made of healing and empowering energies toward his two teammates.

“We want the to show us what thou got, Miss Sunny,” said Icetales. “So, do not hold back. Show us the real endurance of a caretaker!”

Scrafty gritted their teeth, shaking off the ghostly aerial ace. Those ghosts were getting more annoying by the second, and Scrafty was really dreading the moment a stronger attack came through. And it hardly felt like they were making any headway, either. Why did a caretaker have to be so bulky?

We might have to transform soon enough, gonna need more than just some defense I feel like.

Damn, that might be right. Scrafty shut their eyes and took a deep breath, snuffing out some of their corruption. But what about the others? They'd probably start transforming soon as well, wouldn't they? And Icetales was already shining brighter than usual, a radiant explosion from him could be devastating...

...I mean, Astrid explodes all the time and it tends to work out, what if we--

Not even giving that thought room to breath, Scrafty summoned an empty sphere above them and pulled some radiance out from the daemon. "Watch yourself, Icetales. If you explode, so goes our chance at winning this. And I'm not leaving this arena a loser a second time."

As for Sunny, Scrafty sent a ball of ominous light that spun around her head. Geez, just looking at it too long would cause someone's head to hurt, how bad would it be to have it orbit your face..? Scrafty might have to apologize to Sunny after this.

Owen winced, glancing at Brisa. "They're losing steam," he said. "And those spirits are only getting stronger. If they don't do something soon..." He glanced at the timer. How fast the battle had gone, trying to navigate past the many cosmic distortions that surrounded that Blissey. A few stray attacks had gone Incineroar's way, but he'd dodged several of them with remarkable ease.

"Wow, Hyper Voice? Oka--" Scrafty was cut off by a chunk of stone beaming them in the chest, knocking them to the ground. That hurt. That really hurt. But they were still alive, slowly falling apart, had blurry vision, their glass head was cracked, and their flame was flickering... but alive! They could still do something! They weren't out just yet!

At least, that's what they thought until a warped pulse of psychic energy kicked them while they were down. That... too much...

We should have buffed more! Or transformed sooner! B-But it's alright, we can do it now! Pull out all the stops, just buff the hell outta us!

...Maybe, but with the spirits getting faster, doing more...

W-We just need to be more slippery, yeah! We can dodge all that, maybe... A-And even if we don't, we'll just tank the rest!

Four attacks, though? One Earthquake and they were done for, another Rock Blast and they were dead, hell, another Extrasensory would be bad. Scrafty looked at Sunny, then grinned. "Not bad, not bad at all. I'd ask for a rematch later on but you'd totally wipe the floor with me, again."

They looked back to Icetales, holding a somewhat serious face for a moment. "...I'm gonna buff myself as much as I can, I need you to protect Cynthian. She's the only you of us that can actually do some damage to Sunny, so you better make sure she can hit as hard as possible." Scrafty's body melted slightly, and they gritted their teeth. Their flame, still weak, crackled with Blacklight, and their body darkened slightly. "I'll... do what I can to help you, but don't you dare waste any breath on me."

This was playing out just like how Scrafty thought it would. Them getting knocked out, and Cynthian and Icetales taking the win. All they could do know is make sure their team had the best chance possible at winning.

Sunny's counter attack took Cynthian by surprise, throwing her back and through the air. She barely managed to land on her feet by anchoring spiked vines on the ground.

"Alright, now you're playing for real!" Cynthian coughed and winced. Those spirits made Sunny stronger with every passing minute. It reminded her of how Balm also only got tougher the longer they fought him. One way or another, they needed to end things soon.

"Icetales, cover me! We have to find a way to deal with those spirit attacks!" She lashed out her vines once more, but she knew in her mind that she needed to hit much harder soon.

Uh oh! It seemed that Sunny took their words a tad too seriously…

"YOU KIDS BETTER STOP PLAYING AROUND!"

Icetales hissed in discomfort when his fine ears were bombarded by that shout, and he started rubbing them with a forepaw. Good thing that he managed to distance himself enough to not be deafened by the shockwave.

“G-Golly, that was—!”

But he wasn’t safe: the entire battlefield was under shellfire, with barrages of rocks, streams of fire and psionic waves being fired at the trio by the mysterious presence.

Icetales managed to dodge a few pebbles thrown in his way, but he squealed in pain when the flames scorched his fur and the psychic attacks dazed his mind.

And then, the attacks ended. The Ninetales panted as he tried to regain his bearings, wobbling after being struck by all those attacks. He glanced at his teammates: they were doing much worse than him, he could tell.

“…Heh. By the heavens, that,” he planted his tails into the floor to sustain himself, “was something, all right.” He took a deep breath, exhaling a cloud of ice. “Very well. It seems… that this is time to remove the puppy’s gloves.”

As soon as he uttered those words, the air around the half-daemon was bent and distorted, his body taking a black tint. Light and darkness flowed inside of him, draining the surrounding energy like a black hole.

And then, the energy exploded. Rings of Radiance and clouds of Darkness cloaked the Cosmic Warlock, and he stared intently at his teammates with an icy glance. He howled to the sky, making many golden comets fall on the battlefield while many translucent bells chimed from above, longer than usual. The many wounds that covered himself and his allies were mostly gone, but he knew he needed to do more than that…

They looked back to Icetales, holding a somewhat serious face for a moment. "...I'm gonna buff myself as much as I can, I need you to protect Cynthian. She's the only you of us that can actually do some damage to Sunny, so you better make sure she can hit as hard as possible." Scrafty's body melted slightly, and they gritted their teeth. Their flame, still weak, crackled with Blacklight, and their body darkened slightly. "I'll... do what I can to help you, but don't you dare waste any breath on me."

"Icetales, cover me! We have to find a way to deal with those spirit attacks!"

Icetales growled in agreement, before bolting toward Cynthian and standing protectively in front of her. A gleaming barrier of auroras veiled the trio with its mystical energy, and the Cosmic Warlock crouched down. The black hole inside of his chest whirred with fury, as he readied himself to take whatever attack came in his direction.

“Let us see if thou hast what it takes to bring down the cosmos itself!”

Icetales Unleashed his true power and became a Cosmic Warlock, gaining the power of the fae and the darkness!

"Vix!" A bead of sweat rolled down Cynthian's cheek as she watched her partner go down. Sunny wasn't letting up. They really had to end things fast somehow.

Cynthian looked beside her at Icetales, and she gently held one of his tails blanketing her. He'd taken most of the attacks coming at her. A familiar scenery played out in her mind. She took a deep breath and smacked her face with her bouquets.

"Icetales, it's just you and me again huh? Fate has a funny way of keeping us together," Cynthian said as she pressed against him to push him back on his paws.

"Let's put on a good show, shall we?"

Once more, a myriad of attacks with various energetic signatures was unleashed by the mysterious entity. By the heavens and stars!

Icetales managed to destroy the rocks headed his way, but his eyes widened in horror when he saw a metallic cannon ball headed in his way. He shut his eyes and braced for impact, refusing to move from his spot. Refusing to leave Cynthian’s side.

He was utterly flattened when the steel sphere demolished his barrier and crushed him under its weight, shattering the ground underneath. The pixie dust vanished in a thin mist, while Icetales gasped in pain.

Then, blades of poison slashed him across his chest, and he winced when he felt the venom coursing through his veins. Lastly, two fists charged with metallic energy flew at him, bringing him down for good.

“Nggh…” He forced out a small smile. “It seems thou… managed to throw the cosmos off of balance…”

Icetales stumbled on the floor, panting in exhaustion. The golden gusts and blue nebulas were mere flickers, and he coughed out some violet snowflakes.

“Not… not swell…”

"Icetales, it's just you and me again huh? Fate has a funny way of keeping us together," Cynthian said as she pressed against him to push him back on his paws.

"Let's put on a good show, shall we?"

“Fate is… painful,” he muttered, giving a small nuzzle in appreciation. “But… yes. The… The show must go on…”

Icetales raised his tails upward, summoning his Heal Bell one more time. He smiled when he felt the soothing energy clear away his poisoning, before turning to Cynthian.

“It is up to thee now…”

Radiance and Shadow filled Icetales’s entire body, before he filled Cynthian with a mixture of both powers. The glowing wraith faded into her bouquets, giving them a dark golden sheen and making her petals look sharper.
